Bill Goodman, Executive Director of the Kentucky Humanities Council, spoke to members of the McCreary County Chamber of Commerce during this month’s regular, monthly meeting. Each year, the Kentucky Humanities Council provides funding for more than 550 public humanities programs. Reaching across the state, these programs are sponsored by local organizations and held in familiar community settings. The Kentucky Humanities Council helps Kentuckians explore the humanities through a variety of avenues including books, authors, historical performances, speakers, museum exhibits, cultural festivals, and genealogy. Locally, McCreary County has benefitted from the Kentucky Humanities Council through programs such as PRIME TIME reading, Kentucky Chautauqua, and the Speakers Bureau.
During the April meeting of the McCreary County Chamber of Commerce, Chamber President Suzie Thompson presented John Kayae and Willie Boyatt, president and vice president of Lumber King, with a certificate honoring the business for over 50 years of service to the community. Lumber King, which originated in Stearns, is located in Whitley City and four other out-of-county locations. The company is 92% employee owned.
