Lady Raiders edge Wayne County for district win

STEARNS – McCreary Central notched its second straight win on Thursday (Feb.1), edging visiting Wayne County 45-43 in a 48th District girls’ basketball game.
With the win, McCreary Central improved to 9-16 overall and 1-3 in the 48th District.
Wayne County slipped to 6-15 overall and 1-3 in the district with the loss.
McCreary Central shot 34.9 percent (15-of-43) from the field. The Lady Raiders were 3-of-22 from 3-point range.
McCreary Central shot 75 percent (12-of-16) from the free throw line.
Allyson Anderson, a sophomore guard, led McCreary Central with 19 points. She was 9-of-10 from the free throw line.
Elizabeth Anderson , a freshman forward/guard, Allyson Anderson in double figures for the Lady Raiders, adding 10 points while pulling down a team-high six rebounds.
Lauryn Phillips scored eight points in McCreary Central’s triumph. Phillips accounted for two of the Lady Raiders’ three 3-pointers.
Julia King (four points), Hannah Neal (four points) and Makenzie Cox (one point) provided additional scoring for McCreary Central, which also performed well defensively.
Wayne County shot 38.3 percent (18-of-47) from the field. The Lady Cardinals were 2-of-13 from 3-point range.
Wayne County shot 62.5 percent (5-of-8) from the free throw line.
Macey Blevins led Wayne County with 20 points and eight rebounds. Blevins drained eight field goals from inside the arc for the Lady Cardinals.
Mallory Campbell accompanied Blevins in double figures for Wayne County, scoring 10 points.
In the other individual scoring for the Lady Cardinals, Alyssa Conn contributed seven points while Maria Bowlin and Haleigh Criswell chipped in three points apiece
Conn and Criswell ranked as Wayne County’s second-leading rebounders, grabbing six rebounds apiece in the setback.
McCreary Central showed much improvement in its latest matchup versus Wayne County. The two 48th District girls’ basketball teams split their regular-season series. In an early-season meeting in Monticello on December 8, then-host Wayne County downed the Lady Raiders 50-38. The McCreary Central and Wayne County girls’ basketball teams could meet again in the postseason.
