McCreary Central-Corbin game moved to Saturday

STEARNS – The McCreary Central-Corbin girls’ basketball game slated for Friday, Dec. 1 has been moved to Saturday, Dec. 2.
The McCreary Central Lady Raiders’ Basketball Booster Club is preparing to sponsor McCreary County Elementary and Middle School Recognition Night as Corbin visits for an early-season matchup. The McCreary Central-Corbin junior varsity game is set to start at 6 p.m.. Then, the McCreary Central-Corbin varsity contest is due to follow at 7:30. Players will be recognized during halftime of the varsity game.
Principals and coaches are asked to encourage any student who participated in the elementary clinics as well as any of the girls’ school teams to attend. All students will receive free admission. Coaches are also asked to turn in a list of teams present at the game to the score table by the first quarter of the varsity game.
Cash prize drawings will be held throughout both games, along with McCreary Central’s regular Break the Bank Shooting Contest.
New head coach Larry Anderson is guiding the Lady Raiders. McCreary Central ended the 2016-17 season with a 7-24 record but returns several talented players. Four starters are back for McCreary Central as senior Lauren Phillips, junior Macey Welchel, sophomore Allyson Anderson and freshman Elizabeth Anderson return.
Allyson Anderson paced the Lady Raiders throughout the 2016-17 season, averaging 16.8 points per game.
Elizabeth Anderson averaged 9.3 points and 5.6 rebounds per game for the Lady Raiders one season ago.
McCreary Central’s 2016-17 season ended with a loss to Wayne County in the semifinals of the 48th District Girls’ Basketball Tournament at Southwestern.
McCreary Central entered the week set to visit Russell County then return home to host Corbin.
