By: Steve LeMaster

JELLICO, Tenn. – McCreary Central was unable to work its way into the win column on the road as part of a season debut earlier in the week. Host Jellico (Tenn,) prevented McCreary Central from prevailing on Monday, shutting out the Raiders 2-0 (25-21, 25-17) in a high school volleyball season opener.

With the loss, McCreary Central opened its 2017 season 0-1.

The Raiders, under the direction of head coach Wade Davis, pushed longtime rival Jellico throughout the match.

Visiting McCreary Central mounted rallies in each game before Jellico was able to pull away to win.

The Raiders suffered the loss after taking an early exit out of the 2016 season. Wayne County blanked McCreary Central 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-22) in the first round of the 2016 48th District Volleyball Tournament. McCreary Central ended its run in the 2016 campaign after claiming back-to-back wins to conclude the regular-season.

McCreary Central’s current roster features the following players: Elizabeth Anderson (Fr.), Laneisha Boyatt (Jr.), Kortney Brock (Sr.), Alexa Bruce (Fr.), Skylin Clark (Jr.), Taylor Davis (So.), Tiffany Goodin (Fr.), Rebekah Jones (So.), Karley Kramar (Sr.), Kennedy Martin (Sr.), Kendra Nichols (Jr.), Jadyn Privett (So.), Winnie Sizemore (Jr.), Ashley Smith (Jr.), Haley Smith (So.), Haley Stigall (Jr.), Caitlynn Strunk (Jr.), Taylor Strunk (Jr.), Taylor Sumner (Jr.), Meki Torak (So.), Leslie Vanover (So.), Stacy Vanover (Jr.), Cassie Walker (Jr.) and Mason Wilson (So.).
