McCreary Central limited in loss to Russell County

RUSSELL SPRINGS – McCreary Central found itself limited offensively in a loss to host Russell County in a season opener on Tuesday, Nov., 28. Host Russell County pulled away to defeat the Lady Raiders 79-35 in the season-opening matchup.

Homestanding Russell County moved ahead early and never faltered.

McCreary Central shot 36.8 percent (14-of-38) from the field. The Lady Raiders finished 3-for-15 (20 percent) from 3-point range.

McCreary Central shot 5- percent (4-of-8) from the free throw line.

Allyson Anderson led McCreary Central with 13 points. Anderson was the only Lady Raider to reach double figures in the scoring column as the 2017-18 season opened.

Emily Anderson scored seven points, Celya Kiser chipped in six points and Macey Welchel added four points for the Lady Raiders in the setback.

Rounding out the McCreary Central individual scoring, Hannah Neal and Julia King netted three points and two points, respectively.

Elizabeth Anderson led McCreary Central inside, securing a game-high seven rebounds.

Russell County shot 52.6 percent (30-of-57) from the field. The Lady Lakers were 5-of-10 (50 percent) from 3-point range.

Russell County shot 70 percent (14-of-20) from the free throw line.

Four Russell County players reached double figures in the scoring column. Haley Southerland led Russell County to the win, scoring a game-high 17 points.

Jaylen Elmore scored 15 points, Addison Loy 11 tossed in 11 points and Madelyn Preston netted 10 points for the Lady Lakers.

Aiding a balanced offensive attack, Amelia Ackerman and Juliah Bault pushed in seven points apiece for the Russell County hoops squad.

Elmore pulled down a team-best six rebounds for the Lady Lakers.

The McCreary Central and Russell County girls’ basketball teams aren’t scheduled to meet again this season.
