OC Tax has good September

First quarter McCreary County Occupational Tax collections lag slightly behind last year’s numbers thanks to a better-than average month of receipts in September.

Last month a total of $7,327.74 in Occupational Tax collections were disbursed to the General Fund, pushing the first quarter total closer to what was brought in last year.

From July through the end of September a total of $282,888 has been collected, less than $3,000 behind first quarter collections for the 2015-16 fiscal year – $282,145.

Collections for this September were well above the average of $12,000 for the past five years. Last year more than $28,000 was collected in September, but the previous three years saw an average of only $7,000 for those months.

Part of the increased collections may be attributed to an increased effort to collect past-due accounts and penalties. During last month’s Fiscal Court meeting OC Tax Administrator Stephanie Tucker informed the Court that efforts were going well and additional subpoenas were ready to be served on additional accounts.

September’s collection brings the three-month average of just over $94,000 collected per month. If that average holds steady, a projected $1,130,000 would be added to the General Fund over the course of this fiscal year.
