MCHS Future Health Professional Students rank in the top 5% of State
Students from McCreary Central High School HOSA student organization, recently competed at their annual State competition in Louisville, KY in a variety of health Science related events.

MCHS received a prestigious MERIT award for the money raised towards their National service Project, The Leukemia Lymphoma Society. The entire student organization raised $ 1,121.34
HOSA is Health Occupation Students of America. Any student enrolled in health science courses at MCHS is eligible to become a part of the student organization. Not only do HOSA students excel in the classroom and state competition, but believe in giving back in several service projects this year. The students in HOSA raised over 200 pounds in pop tabs once again this year for Ronald McDonald House Charities and were able to register 43 new organ donors for the KODA.
Students advanced to State Governor’s Cup Competition
Three McCreary County Middle School Academic Team students advanced to state Governor’s Cup Competition in Composition: Amber Bryant, Emily Bryant, and Jonie Perry. They competed on Saturday, March 19 at the Galt House in Louisville, KY.
PKI 6th Grade Accelerated Reading Club
Pine Knot Intermediate School’s 6th grade teachers, especially Ms. Coffey, the reading teacher, are extremely proud of the hard work and dedication of our students. Several 6th graders are working hard on becoming members of the AR (Accelerated Reading) Club. In order to become a member of the AR Club the children have to reach 50 points. 4th & 5th Grade Governor’s Cup
Jada Martin, a 4th grade student at Pine Knot Intermediate won 1st place in Language Arts at the Governor’s Cup Competition in Somerset on March 12, 2016. PKI’s Quick Recall team won 4th place at the same competition. The Quick Recall team members that competed are Caroline Richmond, Seth Taylor, Shelly Owens, Isabella Hammons, Chelsea King, Jada Martin, and Lailah Nerli.
MCHS KHEAA Presentation
MCHS College Cabana hosted Tyler Powers, KHEAA Outreach Counselor on March 9th. Tyler provided information regarding the cost of college and assisted in helping students complete Getting the Facts, available online at KHEAA.COM, to Juniors. Presentation was made available through Junior English classes. Arrangements for this service was provided by Rodney Tucker, Kentucky College Coach located at McCreary Central High School.
The Science Garden
Parents came out to paint with their child during a Pine Knot Intermediate Science Event. The Science Garden walls will be decorated with the flowers painted by the parents and students.

On Tuesday, students at McCreary County Middle School celebrated Pi Day (3-15) by getting a snack courtesy of the school’s Family Resource Center. What type of snack? What else? - Fresh apple pies!
Board of Education recognizes Academic teams

The McCreary County Board of Education recognized Academic teams from McCreary Central High, McCreary County Middle, and Whitley City Elementary. Several McCreary County students are scheduled to compete at the state level. The Pine Knot Intermediate Students of the Month were also recognized.
Pine Knot Intermediate Basketball Teams
Congratulations to the Pine Knot Intermediate Basketball Teams for another successful season. The 4th Grade Team finished the year with a winning record of 15-10. They finished 1st in the Whitley Central Invitational Tournament. The 5th Grade Team finished the year with a winning record of 30-5. They won the Rocky Hollow Tournament Championship and were Runner-up in the 1st Annual Colonels Clash of Champions. The 6th Grade Team finished the year with a winning record of 20-10. They finished Runner-up in the Dick’s Sporting Goods Invitational Tournament at KBA. We want to recognize the players for their hard work, dedication, and commitment to becoming the best players they can be and making the basketball program here at Pine Knot Intermediate a great success. Go Dragons!
Raider Archery Team shoots school record
The Raider Archery Team shot a school record score of 3189 in the KHSAA Region 8 Tournament this past week. The Raiders finished 8th out of 11 teams. Aaron Jones (left) placed 7th out of 124 shooters with a score of 289, just four points off first place. Isaiah Huddleston was the second Raider to place in the top 15, with a 12th place finish and a score of 186.
PKI The Franklin & Twain Literature Club
The Franklin & Twain Literature Club from Pine Knot Intermediate School, recently visited McCreary County Health and Rehab Center. Students read books to some of the rehab patients, and residents. Campbellsville University Fall 2015 Dean’s List
The academic honors' dean's list for the fall 2015 semester has been announced by Dr. Donna Hedgepath, Campbellsville University's vice president for academic affairs.
The following local students have been named to Campbellsville University's Dean's List for fall 2015:
Kayla N. Smith, a freshman, from Strunk, Ky.
The academic honors' list recognizes students who achieve a grade point average of 3.50 or above for the semester with a course load of at least 12 hours. The fall 2015 academic honors' list includes a total of 629 students, with 244 named to the President's List for achieving a 4.0 grade point average, and 385 named to the Dean's List for achieving a 3.5 to 3.99 GPA.
The 50 Nifty States
Mrs. Proffitt’s first graders at Pine Knot Primary School have been studying the United States. They each chose a state to report on and created beautiful posters. Great job learning and presenting about our country.
MCHS JROTC Places 3rd
The MCHS JROTC Raider Team placed first in Tug of War and 3rd in Relay Race at their meet in Corbin this past weekend.

McCreary County School District Principals and Central Office Staff met with Superintendent Mike Cash Wednesday for a leadership meeting to discuss efforts to improve academic performance and to share what is going on in their schools.
WCE District Governor’s Cup
Fourth and Fifth graders from WCE and PKI participated in the Governor’s Cup District meet, hosted at Pine Knot Intermediate this past weekend. WCE’s Future Problem Solving Team placed first, and the Academic Team as a whole placed 2nd overall. Several students earned first place awards in individual events.
Children’s All-State Chorus
Macy Daugherty, a sixth grade student from Whitley City Elementary, was selected by audition to perform in the 2016 Kentucky Children’s All-State Chorus. The concert was presented at the annual Kentucky Music Educators Association (KMEA) Conference in Louisville, KY on Thursday, February 4, 2016 at the Kentucky Center for the Arts. It is an honor for students and schools to be selected to perform with this prestigious choir. Macy is the daughter of Curtis and Holly Daugherty.
100th Day of School
The WCE Kindergarten classes celebrated the 100th day of school by decorating t-shirts and hats with 100 items. They also enjoyed going outside on a beautiful day and releasing 100 balloons as they stood and watched them float up into the blue skies. Each balloon had a special note on the bottom which read, “ It’s our 100th day of school! Please write me back and tell me if you found my balloon!” The note included the school’s address on it. Over the years the school has received letters back from various places. Last year, one letter came back all the way from West Virginia. The students spent the day doing fun, but educational activities which focused on the number 100.
