Troxell leading Raiders in rushing, averaging 135 yards per game

McCreary Central senior running back Brandon Troxell has picked up where he left off in the 2016 season. Two games into the 2017 season, Troxell has rushed 41 times for 270 yards and four touchdowns.

Troxell has gained the majority of McCreary Central’s rushing yards. As a team, McCreary Central has amassed 335 rushing yards.

Through two games, opponents have outscored the Raiders 106-64. But McCreary Central has already shown some explosiveness on the offensive side. The Raiders put up 58 points in a season opener versus Perry County Central.

Quarterback Hunter Jones has added two rushing touchdowns for the Raiders thus far in the 2017 season. But Jones’ biggest impact has been passing the football. The McCreary Central quarterback has completed 23-of-47 passes for 249 yards with one interception.

Ryan Jones has completed 4-of-10 passes for 80 yards and two touchdowns for the Raiders.

Nathan Goins has emerged as McCreary Central’s leading receiver. Goins has reeled in seven receptions for 110 yards.

Both Hunter Jones and John Cash have hauled in one touchdown reception apiece for the Raiders in the young 2017 campaign.

Defensively, Andrew Renfro leads McCreary Central with a team-high 17 tackles. Renfro is one of six Raiders who have reached double figures in the tackles column. Kade Cotton has registered 16 tackles while Nathan Prosser and Jordan Williams have posted 14 tackles apiece. Seth Anderson has added 13 tackles and Dakeaton Jones 12 tackles for the Raiders.

Perry County Central outlasted McCreary Central 64-58 in a four overtimes as the two teams met in a season opener on Aug. 18. McCreary Central, which was off the week of Sept. 1, fell to South Laurel in its second outing in the 2017 season. South Laurel pulled away to defeat the Raiders 42-6 on Aug. 25.

McCreary Central is set to visit Fort Knox for another non-district game on Friday, Sept. 8.
