USP McCreary inmate “walks off” camp

An early morning visit to a local motel could not only mean extra time added to a federal inmate’s sentence, but could also land his lady friend behind bars as well.

A USP McCreary inmate is likely facing escape charges after a Sunday morning visit to a local motel was spoiled after corrections officers nabbed the escapee while trying to get back into the facility. Both the inmate and the woman, who reportedly drove him to the motel for an early morning rendezvous, could face at least five years for the short vacation.
According to the McCreary County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Jerry Meadows arrested a Tennessee woman Sunday morning after she reportedly picked up an inmate from USP McCreary’s low-security camp.
Teresa Phillips, 37, of New Market, Tennessee, was arrested and charged with Escape First Degree, which is a Class C felony, and Possession of Marijuana
According to the arrest citation, Deputy Jerry Meadows was dispatched to the prison around 6:00 a.m. Sunday morning to take the woman into custody.
The deputy was informed Prison Correctional Officers observed the inmate return to the facility in Phillips’ vehicle and detained both individuals. The inmate was identified as Delman Davis on the arrest citation.
Phillips admitted she had picked up Davis on Clear Creek Drive, which runs adjacent to the prison, and taken him to Parkland Motel. About an hour later the couple returned to the prison and were taken into custody.
Officials at USP McCreary state the incident is under investigation, but their account differs slightly from the arrest citation. It states officers observed a vehicle near the camp and an inmate was observed moving toward the car. Prison staff then detained both the driver and the inmate.
An inmate search for Delman Davis shows an inmate with that name was convicted in 2007 on Conspiracy to Distribute Cocaine charges in U.S.  District Court, Greenville, TN. He was listed as being housed in USP McCreary and originally scheduled for release on August 30, 2022.

The USP McCreary Satellite Prison Camp is considered a minimum-security facility, and has no perimeter fencing and a low staff to inmate ratio. About 145 inmates are housed at the camp, and are considered low-risk individuals.
