Sheriff Perry passes

McCreary County is mourning the loss of a former elected law enforcement official, who died unexpectedly Sunday afternoon.

Former McCreary County Sheriff Clarence “Penny” Perry passed away at his home Sunday afternoon at the age of 66.

Perry, who served one term as Sheriff from 2003-2006, had previously served as Constable for nine years. He also worked as a conductor for the Big South Fork Scenic Railway and was renowned for his banjo playing.

McCreary County Funeral Home is handling the arrangements for the Perry family. Visitation will be Friday evening from 6-9, with the service to be held on Saturday at 1 at the McCreary County Funeral Home.
