Lady Raiders rebound

By: Greg Bird

After suffering their first back-to-back losses of the season last week, the Lady Raiders recovered with a pair of wins to get back on a winning streak.

Monday afternoon McCreary hosted Jellico, where they fought a tough 2-game match. The Lady Raiders struggled early, allowing Jellico to jump out to a commanding 24-18 lead. Just one point away from dropping the first game of the match, Junior Brooke Ross took the serve and helped lead the team back to a win.

Ross served eight consecutive points to pull McCreary ahead to a 26-24 win.

Game 2 went much smoother as the Lady Raiders cruised to a 25-12 win to take the overall match, 2-0.

On Tuesday McCreary traveled to Burgin where they pulled out another win, defeating the Lady Bulldogs, 25-16, 25-12, and improving their record to 7-5 on the season.

Tonight McCreary will travel to North Laurel, followed by a road trip to Garrard County on Monday, before returning home to take on Southwestern on Tuesday evening – their second District match of the season.
