McCreary Central High School graduate Cody Pryor has been elected as theLake Cumberland State Vice President of the Kentucky Association of Future Farmers of America (FFA) organization.  Cody was elected in June at the state convention held in Lexington, KY at Rupp Arena.

Cody is currently a freshman at the University of Kentucky in Lexington and is seeking a major in Biosystems Engineering with a minor in Animal Systems.  This year, eight of the twelve state officers are attending the University of Kentucky.

As an officer, Cody has attended extensive training in Bowling Green, Kentucky and in Arkansas.  He also assisted in setting up the FFA exhibit at the Kentucky State Fair and judged fair entries.  He particularly enjoyed judging in the agricultural mechanics category and at the agricultural science fair.

Cody became interested in FFA thanks to his father.

“I’m a big advocate of FFA because of Dad,” Cody commented.  Although his first agriculture class was not what he expected, Cody said he was hooked once he began competing in “everything left and right.” In addition to his current status as State Vice President, Cody also served in high school as an officer at the school, chapter, and regional levels.

Cody has always been interested in agriculture and grew up helping with his family’s small farm.  He received a small USDA loan to purchase four head of cattle and now is expanding as the cows give birth to calves.

Cody also enjoys Bluegrass music and is learning to play the banjo.

Cody is the son of Rodney and Sondra Pryor.
