Lady Raiders top Dogs

By: Greg Bird

Tuesday night in Clinton County the Lady Raiders put together half of a great performance against the Lady Bulldogs, and recovered from a disappointing third game showing to win the match 3-1.

In the first two games McCreary dominated Clinton County. Accurate serves and strong front-line play kept the Lady Bulldogs on their heels throughout the first half of the match. The Lady Raiders cruised to a 25-16 win in the first game, followed by a 25-13 win in the second.

But Clinton County fought back in game 3, upsetting McCreary 25-21 and forcing the best-of-5 match to continue.

The Lady Dogs kept up their pressure in the fourth game, but the Lady Raiders were able to persevere and pull out the deciding game with a 25-21 victory.

The win comes after McCreary finished 2-2 in the Steak & Shake Tournament held Saturday in North Laurel.

The Lady Raiders defeated Leslie County and Jackson County in the tournament, but fell to Garrard County and North Laurel.

McCreary’s record stands at 11-9 through this week.

They will play their final District game of the regular season next Monday at Southwestern. The Lady Warriors sit atop the 12th Region standings with a 23-6 overall record, and a 2-0 mark in District play. Southwestern defeated McCreary, 3-0, in their first meeting this season.
