Lady Raiders top West Jessamine

The McCreary Central Lady Raiders opened their season with a strong 65-40 win over West Jessamine Tuesday night.
Led by Kaylee Cotton and Cierra Terry who scored 29 and 19 points respectively, McCreary outplayed the Lady Colts throughout all four quarters.
Coach Darry Burkett said he was pleased with the outcome, but admitted there were issues the team still needs to address before they can compete consistently.
“I know everyone is going to count our wins and losses in December, but we as a team are counting this as our pre-season since we didn’t have a summer together,” he said.
“We did some things really well,” he added. “Our transitions were good and we handled the ball. They pressed us almost the entire game and we only had 11 turnovers.”
“The effort was great, but the biggest disappointment was we gave up too many rebounds in the second half after we got tired. Our conditioning is not where we need it to be. As we fatigued, we didn’t execute.”
The Lady Raiders travel to Harlan Saturday and Russell County next Monday. Their home opener is scheduled for Thursday, when they host District rivals Wayne County at 7:30 p.m.
