Darryl McGaha, Associate Director for Workforce Development with Lake Cumberland Area Development District, spoke during the January meeting of the McCreary County Chamber of Commerce. McGaha spoke about the importance of McCreary County obtaining workforce readiness certification through the Kentucky Workforce Investment Board in conjunction with the Education and Workforce Development Cabinet. He described the details of the process for certification and pointed to several benefits of obtaining certification . Benefits includes the increased ability to attract new businesses, gaining a competitive edge over other communities, helping existing local companies, recruiting talented people, and revitalizing local communities. Local officials are beginning to pursue the certification for McCreary County and stress that successful certification is a multi-faceted process that cannot be accomplished by a single individual. Community involvement is required to complete the certification process.
The meeting, hosted by McCreary Central High School and their DECA program, was conducted at the High School and was well attended. During the meeting, several students and programs were recognized including DECA, Jr. ROTC, and the Madrigals.
