MCSO investigates possible murder/suicide
McCreary County Deputy/ Detective David Sampson is investigating a possible murder/suicide case involving a husband and wife in Eagle Sunday afternoon.
Sheriff Randy Waters stated the initial call to 911 occurred around 1:18 p.m. after a neighbor apparently witnessed Jerry Wayne Ridner leave his house and shoot himself in the head with a .22 caliber rifle.
Kentucky State Police Trooper Willie Cowan was patrolling in the area and was first to arrive on scene where he found Ridner, 40, on the porch. Ridner was reportedly still breathing at the time, and the Trooper initiated CPR on the victim, to no avail.
Joined by McCreary County Sheriff’s Deputy/Detective David Sampson and Constable Dustin Ridner a short while later, the officers found the victim’s wife, identified as Amanda R. Ridner, 36, dead of an apparent shotgun wound to the head inside the residence.
Neighbors around the residence reportedly heard two gunshots just before the initial call to 911.
There was no mention of possible motive at this time.
Sheriff Waters stated it is believed Ridner shot his wife, then himself a few minutes later, but a final ruling will not be available until the investigation is concluded.
Detective Sampson is continuing the investigation.
