Prisoner killed at USP McCreary
According to USP McCreary officials an inmate died last week after receiving “multiple injuries” inside his cell shortly after arriving at the institution.
Lance Cameron Smith, 32, of Wyoming was reportedly found in his cell around 7:45 p.m. last Wednesday and transported to a local hospital for treatment. He was pronounced dead at 9:12 p.m.
Prison officials stated the FBI has been notified of the incident and it is being treated as a possible homicide.
The prison was placed on temporary limited operations after the incident, but has since resumed normal operation.
This is the third such incident at the federal penitentiary in less than a year.
Last May an inmate died after receiving injuries in an early morning fight in the facility, in which several other inmates were involved and received minor injuries.
In August, Donald John Post Sr., 69, of League City, Texas passed away from injuries sustained in an apparent assault in his cell.
