Four McCreary Central Wrestlers qualified for the State Championships this past weekend, with a fifth making the trip as an alternate.

Senior Nathanial Prosser leads the charge for the Raiders, coming off a Regional title in the 220-pound weight class. Prosser pinned Madison Southern’s Justus Williams to take the title for McCreary. Prosser enters the tournament with a 30-3 record this season.

Freshman Nathan Prosser placed second in the 170-pound class by virtue of a 5-2 decision in the title bout and carries a 22-8 record into the final competition.

Ryan Strunk, a Sophomore, placed fourth in the 152-pound class, as did 8th grader Drew Bell in the 126-pound class. Strunk’s record stands at 29-11 on the season, and Bell holds a 22-15 record.

Seth Anderson, 192 pounds, will accompany the team as an alternate, and could play in the tournament if another wrestler in his class drops out or is unable to compete. Anderson finished fifth in his division.

Overall the team placed sixth out of the 13-team field in the 7th Region Championships, held at Bryan Station Friday and Saturday.

The team leaves Thursday for the 52nd KHSAA State Tournament at the Kentucky Horse Park’s Alltech Arena this weekend.
