Wrestlers wrap up season

Four McCreary Central wrestlers donned their gear for the final time this season Tuesday in the 2015 Kentucky High School State Wrestling Tournament in Frankfort.

After the winter storm postponed the Tournament for two weeks, Drew Bell, Ryan Strunk, Nathan Prosser and Nathaniel Prosser took to the mats at the Kentucky Horse Park’s Alltech Arena.

All four grapplers lost their first round bouts, but kept their medal hopes alive in the consolation brackets. Both Strunk and Nathan Prosser won their second match in the tournament, but failed to advance past round three.
Bell, an 8th grader, lost his opening match in the 126-pound bracket to Oldham County’s Jacob Henley by pin fall, and fell in the consolation bracket to Jaython Elliot of Southern Kentucky by technical fall.

Sophomore Ryan Strunk (152 pounds) fell to Nelson County’s Andrew Ackley by fall in the opening round, but rebounded with a 4-3 decision over East Jessamine’s Riley Haines. His tournament ended with a 7-0 loss to Cooper’s Jordan Kidwell in the next match.

Nathan Prosser, wrestling at 170-pounds, fell to a tough 4-2 decision in the opening round to Central Hardin’s Dakota Jones, but kept alive with a pin over Tre Powers of Simon Kenton in the consolation round. Prosser would fall in his next bout via a 7-3 decision against Male’s Cameron Blankenship.
Senior Nathaniel Prosser, who entered the tournament as the 12th Region Champion in the 220-pound class, fell to Trinity’s Brenton Ervin by an 11-7 decision to open the tournament, and ended with a 2-1 loss to Stephen Kaiser of John Hardin.
