Grand Jury indicts 8
The McCreary County Grand Jury indicted eight individuals in seven separate indictments this month.
John Smith, Jr., of Whitley City, was indicted on one count of Arson First Degree and Criminal Mischief Third Degree for allegedly intentionally setting fire to a residence and damaging a vehicle on December 19, 2014.
Smith was also charged with being a Persistent Felony Offender after a previous conviction of Fleeing and Evading and Criminal Mischief in 2006.
Freddie Summers, Jr., of Pine Knot, was charged with one count of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon after allegedly being found to be in possession of a handgun on January 18.
Luther Murphy, of Williamsburg, was indicted on three drug-related counts. The first, Trafficking in a Controlled Substance First Degree, Over 2 Ounces, Second Offense, alleges Murphy was found to have a quantity of methamphetamine on January 23, for the purpose of sale. The second charge, Trafficking in a Controlled Substance Second Degree, alleges he also was found with a quantity of Suboxone for the purpose of sale. A third charge of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia contends he was also found to have various items commonly used for the ingestion and distribution of controlled substances.
Murphy was also charged as a Persistent Felony Offender after a 2012 conviction of Promoting Contraband.
Casey Mounce was charged with Assault First Degree for allegedly “manifesting extreme indifference to the value of human life while driving and wrecking a vehicle while under the influence of drugs and thereby causing serious physical injury” to her daughter, on May 18, 2014.
Mounce also was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence of Intoxicants First Offense.
Dylan Waters, of Pine Knot, was indicted on a count of Burglary Second Degree and Theft by Unlawful Taking less than $500 for allegedly illegally entering a residence and taking $200 in cash.
Darla Earls, of Winfield, Tennessee, was charged with Theft by Unlawful Taking more than $500 for reportedly unlawfully taking an iPhone 6 on January 30.
Earls was also charged with being a Persistent Felony Offender after a previous conviction of Trafficking in a Controlled Substance in 2010.
Robert Dustin Bryant and Noel Jeff Bryant, of Stearns, were indicted on one count of Burglary First Degree for allegedly unlawfully entering a residence on May 18, 2014 while in the possession of a firearm.
The pair was also charged with one count of Possession of a Controlled Substance Second Degree and possessing a quantity of Suboxone on January 23.
Noel Bryant was also charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance Third Degree for reportedly having Phentermine on his possession on January 23.
He also faces a charge of Assault Third Degree for allegedly kicking Kentucky State Police Trooper Shaler Jones, causing physical injury, on November 28, 2014.
