It was a real test for the Lady Raiders’ volleyball team Tuesday night as they entered the second week of the season, but already had to face their toughest opponent.

With only six games under their belt, McCreary had to travel to Southwestern to take on the defending 12th Region Champion Lady Warriors.

The Warriors knocked off McCreary in three-straight games, 25-10, 25-18, 25-9, but Coach Robert Jones said he liked what he saw on the court from his team.

“We played them tough in two of the games,” he said. “We knew what we were going to face, and we didn’t roll over.”

“We have a lot of work to do yet, but the season is young.”

The loss dropped the Lady Raiders’ record to 4-3 on the season after opening with wins against Clinton County and Bell County last week. The team finished the McCreary Central Invitational Tournament last weekend 2-2, with wins over Bell and Jellico, and losses to North Laurel and Somerset.

McCreary travels to Russell County tonight, and will play their second District match of the season next Tuesday when they head to Wayne County.
