Thursday October 1st

9:00am McCreary County Hiking Club will lead a hike to Yahoo Arch.

2:00pm Big South Fork Ranger Led Hike Join Park Ranger Karen Thompson as she leads a hike to Yahoo Falls (Kentucky’s tallest waterfall) starting from the Yahoo Falls Picnic Area. Bring water and dress for the weather!

5:00-8:00pm Heritage Trail Days Kickoff Event – Jackson Heritage Park, downtown Whitley City, KY

– Music by Kentucky Arts Council members Joe Lamay & Sherri Reese, Mitch Barrett and others

– Farmers’ Market/Seed Swap

– Apple Roast with apple treats and games sponsored by Kristina’s Kitchen

6:00pm Heritage Trail Days Bird Watching Caravan!

Meet at Jackson Heritage Park for a caravan leaving at 6:00pm sharp…bring cameras, flashlights, etc for a bird watching caravan adventure in McCreary County. Free to join!

Friday October 2nd

9:00am McCreary County Hiking Club will lead a hike at Natural Arch off KY Hwy 927 in northern McCreary County.

10:00am-5:00pm Crafters’ Day at Mountain Craft Center – Highway 90, Parkers Lake, KY

Craft sales, demonstrations, and more!

11:00am Barren Fork Hikes & Cookout

– US Forest Service Archaeologist Randy Boedy leads a history walk around the Barren Fork Heritage Trail

– Gracie’s Rescue Outreach sponsors a pet owners hike safety walk & talk around the Barren Fork Horse Camp

– Cookout & picnic at 12noon at the Barren Fork Horse Camp shelter featuring a “chat” with

Appalachian storyteller Carson Payne and local historian Sam Perry.

2:00pm Big South Fork Ranger Led Hike

Join Park Ranger Karen Thompson for a hike starting at Yamacraw, from the trailhead/parking area just east of the Yamacraw bridge on KY Hwy 92. Bring drinking water and dress for the weather!

5:00pm US Forest Service Archaeologist Randy Boedy leads a history walk around the Barren Fork Heritage Trail

5:00-8:00pm Heritage Trail Days Craft & Quilt Show entries accepted at storefront next to

Kristina’s Kitchen, Main Street-Whitley City. The gallery will be open Saturday October 3rd.

6:00-10:00pm Spooky Night at the McCreary County Park

– Zombie Walk with costume prizes at 6:00pm

– Live music from Austin’s Basement at 7:00pm

7:00-10:00pm Uptown Opry Classic Country Music Show – Main Street in Whitley City, KY

Live music show with a special “Legends” theme


Saturday October 3rd

8:00-11:00am Mountain Bike Ride at Rock Creek

– Meet at the Stearns Trail Town sign/gazebo at the junction of KY Hwy 1651 and KY Hwy 92 at 8:00am

– The ride will be a fairly easy paced 16 mile round trip

9:00am-4:00pm Downtown Fest (Main Street, Whitley City, KY)

– Vendor set up at 8:00am

– Vendors & Childrens’ Section Open at 9:00am

– Heritage Trail Days Parade lineup begins at 9:30am

– Performance by McCreary Central HS Band at 10:30am

– Live Music with Kentucky Mountain Trio at 11:00am

– Heritage Trail Days Parade at 12:00pm

– Live Music with Empty Bottle String Band at 1:15pm

– Live Music with Rhonda Mann & Friends at 2:45pm

2:00pm-4:00pm Canoe Races at the Reservoir

– Located just south of the traffic lights at the intersection of US Highway 27 and East Appletree/Pigskin Road

3:00pm-6:00pm 10k Trail Race at Blue Heron Loop

– “Animals of the Big South Fork” (with BSF Park Ranger Don Tetrick) at 5:00pm

– Chili Cook-off 4:00-?

– “Show & Shine” Classic Cars 5:00-9:00pm (OVC Parking Lot)

– “Snakes Alive!” (Raymond Little) at 7:00pm

Sunday October 4th

9:00am-3:30pm Heritage Trail Days Waffle Brunch & Sunday Dinner

-Served up at Kristina’s Kitchen, Main Street Whitley City, KY. Waffle Brunch from 9:00-11:30am followed by Sunday Dinner from 12:00-3:30pm. Call 606-376-3422 for info!
