Blackburn escapee captured

IMG_8843Justin Canada, an escapee from the Blackburn Correctional Complex in Lexington was apprehended by local authorities Wednesday afternoon at his mother’s residence in Smithtown.

Canada, 26, who was serving a 15-year sentence after convictions for robbery and wanton endangerment in McCreary County had walked away from the minimum- security facility on August 26, and had been on the run since.

Kentucky State Police Trooper Craig Reed stated officers had received information that Canada was visiting his mother Wednesday, and went to the location in an attempt to locate the suspect.

Canada was taken into custody without incident on escape charges and an outstanding warrant from Christian County.

Also arrested were his mother, identified as Shona Williams, charged with menacing and resisiting arrest; his brother, Dalton Canada, charged with menacing and terroristic threatening; and a female, identified as Jenna Owen, charged with hindering.

Trooper Reed was assisted at the scene by Trooper Shaler Jones, Captain Stuart Bryant of Kentucky Fish and Wildlife, Deputy Tom Smith and Deputy Odell Smith.
