Dedication ceremony Saturday

The Whitley City Fire Department will be hosting a ceremony on Saturday October 17 at 2:00 p.m., dedicating a memorial in honor of Lt. Arlie “Pooh” Hill.

Lt. Hill was fatally injured when attempting an apparent rescue attempt from a burning residence on August 30, 2013.

The firefighter suffered severe burns to over 90 percent of his body in the tragic accident, and he was transported to the University of Cincinnati Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Nearly two months later, on October 27, Lt. Hill passed away from his injuries.

During Lt. Hill’s hospital stay, his family and members of the Whitley City Fire Department, an all-volunteer organization, were supported by fellow firefighters in the Cincinnati and Lexington region, as well as firefighters across the country.

Plans are to recognize members of those organizations at the ceremony.
