Woman arrested in murder for hire plot
A Stanford woman was arrested Saturday afternoon after allegedly attempting to hire someone to kill a witness in a case against her son.
Peggy J. Richey, 60, is charged with Conspiracy to Commit Murder after she was arrested in Parkers Lake following a meeting with the individual she was attempting to hire to commit the murder.
According to the arrest report Mrs. Richey had reportedly met with a cooperating witness on several occasions to discuss the possibility of killing someone that had conducted a controlled drug buy against her son, Brian Shelton.
Shelton was previously arrested in Lincoln County in September on trafficking, possession and receiving stolen property charges.
Each of the meetings between Richey and the informant were recorded.
On Sunday Richey met again with the witness, this time bringing a gun, ammunition and money to complete the transaction.
Richey was arrested in Lincoln county last month on trafficking charges as well after she was spotted attempting to hid methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in a dumpster outside the Lincoln County Jail.
The Kentucky State Police is leading the investigation.
Richey was lodged in the Casey County Detention Center with a $500,000 cash bond.
