Crafter’s Blast

The Mountain Craft Center enjoyed a second event for fall when we had a three day Crafter’s Blast the weekend of October 23 – 25.  It was a balmy seventy degree weekend as a few of our association members demonstrated their talents or just welcomed our many visitors.

One of the nicest things about our events is the manner in which the guests interact with the artist members and just get to know each other and share the love for things new, old or hand made.   There is no rushing through a visit.  Guests take their time to look as long as they like, ask questions and often choose just the right thing to purchase.  You could say we have a warm relationship with those visit.

Karen Trammell set up her scroll saw and cut beautiful products out of wood.  Grace Anderson had her small loom out to demonstrate weaving.   Lorella Wood and Glenda Hurd worked on a few jewelry pieces.  Our Charline Marrinan had her cameras out snapping photos and answering questions about her many pictures and paintings in the center.

We were so grateful to have Jimmy Deskins and his wife Ruby spend the afternoon with us Friday.  Ruby graced us with her wonderful voice in song from one end of our long covered porch.   She even had several guests join her in song from time to time, an example of how the guests are a big part of each event as they share their talent with us as well.  Jimmy, servant for the Lord, shared stories near the fireplace.

Besides hand made art and crafts, the center offers a unique selection of antiques from some of our members.  At our Craft Blast there were many discussions over what some of these beautiful old pieces were used for long ago.

Sam and Rita Perry, Ted Baker, along with Pam and Charline Marrinan had many fantastic pieces ranging from wonderful primitives to great pottery and unusual finds.   Antiques are a part of what is offered all the time now, not just for events at the center.  They are well chosen and delightful additions.

We’ll end our fall season of events with a Christmas Open house weekend scheduled for December 11, 12 and 13 from 10 – 5.   Please come enjoy some complimentary sweets as you share a Christmas at the Cabin experience with us!  You might just find something for everyone on your list!
