Grand Jury indicts 11

The McCreary County Grand Jury returned eight indictments against 11 individuals this week during their regular monthly session.

Jeffery Litton, of Huntsville Tennessee, was indicted on a charge of Escape Second Degree after he was accused of fleeing from the custody of McCreary County Transport Officer Tabitha Worley on October 17.

Litton was arrested on DUI charges earlier on that same date, and was in the process of being transported to the Wayne County Detention Center when the officer became ill and returned to the Sheriff’s Office to await for a relief officer to take the transport.

Litton reportedly also feigned illness and persuaded the officer to open the door of the vehicle. At that time he pulled away from the officer and fled, only to be recaptured a few hours later.

Chad Reed and Holly Strunk were both named in an indictment stemming from two separate, but related incidents.

Reed was charged with Assault First Degree for allegedly stabbing a female victim on September 22 with a knife, causing serious physical injury.

Strunk was charged with Tampering with Physical Evidence for allegedly destroying, mutilating, concealing, removing or altering physical evidence, which would have been used in an official proceeding.

Brian and Tori Spradlin of Revelo and Gary Douglas of Stearns were all charged with Robbery First Degree for reportedly threatening the use of physical force, while armed with a .22 rifle, in the course of a theft on October 25.

Scotty Phillips, of Whitley City, was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance First Degree and Tampering with Physical Evidence for allegedly possessing a quantity of methamphetamine on August 11, and attempting to throw the drug under the vehicle when confronted by police.

Nicholas Vanover, of Whitley City, was charged with Burglary Second Degree and Theft by Unlawful Taking over $500 for allegedly unlawfully entering a residence on September 4 and taking merchandise valued over $500.

Michael Phillips, of Whitley City, was indicted on one count of Operating a Motor Vehicle while Under the Influence of Alcohol Third Offense and one count of Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License for DUI Second Offense stemming from an August 30 traffic stop by KSP Trooper Matt Ridner.

Christopher J. Mason, of Revelo, was indicted on Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Operating a Motor Vehicle while Under the Influence of Alcohol Second Offense and one count of Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License for DUI after a February 8 traffic stop where a quantity of methamphetamine and a drug pipe was found.

Samina Meer Jones, of Strunk, was charged with Flagrant Non Support for allegedly failing to make court ordered child support payments for her child for more than six months or $1,000 in past due payments.

The Voice would like to remind our readers that an indictment is not an indication of one’s guilt or innocence, but represents that enough evidence exists in a case to pursue the matter in a court of law.
