It Pays to Shop Local
Looking for some great bargains?
Want to give local businesses a boost?
The upcoming week provides an opportunity to do both as business members of the McCreary County Chamber of Commerce celebrate “Small Business Saturday” (November 28) and “Shop Local Week” (November 28 through December 5.)
The Chamber is offering the program through their members only as a way to market the businesses that have invested in the local Chamber of Commerce and to encourage residents to shop with and support businesses in McCreary County.
By supporting local businesses, friends and neighbors who own small businesses benefit. In turn, local business owners support local families with payrolls, pay local taxes, and donate funds to local charities and other non-profits.
According to statistics, shopping local does make a difference. For each dollar spent locally, seventy-three cents stays in the local county. Additionally, small businesses account for 65% of the country’s jobs, and small businesses donate twice as much money to charities.
The McCreary County Chamber of Commerce asks that you:
Keep your shopping local whenever you can. Support all local businesses and encourage your friends and family to do the same.
Ten McCreary County Chamber of Commerce businesses are participating in the Chamber event and will offer special discounts beginning this Saturday, November 28 through Saturday, December 5. As you shop at any of the ten participating businesses during the event, don’t forget to register and make yourself eligible to win prizes by snapping a “selfie” and uploading it to the Chamber Facebook page.
Participating businesses are: Stearns Heritage Golf Course, Dolen’s Appliance, Kentucky Coal Crafters, Ace Pizza, Knife of the Party Catering, Bradley’s Gourmet Coffey, Whistle Stop Café, Pottery by Mehg, Associates in Eye Care, and Kristina’s Kitchen.
The Chamber is also partnering with United Cumberland Bank for a “Shop Local” contest. Anyone making a local purchase of $25.00 or more from November 28-December 5 can register to win one of three cash prizes (two $50 and one $150.) Shoppers can register to win by dropping a valid receipt from a local business in a box at any UCB location.
