Man injured in Monday shooting

The McCreary County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a Monday evening attack that left a man with two gunshot wounds.

Sheriff Randy Waters states the initial 911 call regarding the incident indicated a male with a possible self-inflicted gun shot wound to the leg, but authorities heard a different story when they arrived on scene.

Officers and EMS workers responded to the location at the intersection of Sandhill and T Branch Road where they found a male victim suffering from gunshot wounds to the arm and groin area as well as a blow to the head.

Exact details of the events leading up to the shooting are unclear as both the victim and witness state they do not know the attackers, Sheriff Waters said.

Waters said the witness reported the couple was forced from the car, where the male was struck in the head with a pistol, then shot under the arm and the leg. The attackers reportedly drove off in a vehicle with no license plate.

Officers believe the actual attack may have occurred on Peel Dogwood Road, and suspect drugs may be involved.

The male victim was transported to Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital with non- life threatening injuries.

The case remains under investigation.
