Woman dies in fall

A Whitley City woman died last week from an apparent fall off a cliff on Rattlesnake Ridge.

According to Kentucky State Police Detective Billy Correll, Felicia M. Johnson, 24, was pronounced dead Wednesday evening by McCreary County Coroner Tim Corder after her body was found at the bottom of a 42-foot high cliff.

Detective Correll stated that while the investigation is still ongoing, the preliminary findings indicates the cause of death was consistent with a fall.

Johnson had last been seen by family members on November 19, and had been reported missing on November 25, but through his investigation Detective Correll was able to account for her location at a residence on Rattlesnake Ridge for much of that period.

The Detective conducted interviews with multiple people who could account for Johnson’s location over that period. Correll said those witnesses were cooperative and provided details that helped the investigation.

Detective Correll states a friend of Johnson had discovered her body at the base of the cliff Wednesday evening and began shouting for help. A neighbor heard the cries and alerted 911.

Members of the McCreary County Sheriff’s Office, Whitley City Fire Department and McCreary County EMS responded to the scene to assist.
