Voter registration deadline for wet/dry is February 9

The McCreary County Election Board met Tuesday to finalize details for the upcoming wet/dry election to be held on March 18.

With so much attention likely to be focused on the special election, officials want to ensure prospective voters are aware of certain deadlines in the weeks leading up to the vote.

Those wishing absentee ballots can request them through the Clerk’s Office up to February 17, and completed ballots must be mailed back to the Clerks Office postmarked no later than 4:30 p.m. on March 17.

To qualify for an absentee ballot you must be advanced in age, disabled, or ill; a member of the military or a dependent, or overseas citizen; a student who temporarily resides outside the county; a voter who temporarily resides outside of Kentucky and who maintains eligibility to vote in Kentucky; incarcerated, but not yet convicted of a crime; or employed outside of the county all hours the polling place is open.

In house voting will begin February 16. Those votes will be cast in the Clerk’s Office.

An important date to remember if you wish to cast your ballot in the election is February 9. That is the final day to register to vote in the election. If you are not registered, you will not be allowed to vote.

To check your registration status you can visit the Secretary of State’s Voter Information Center at https://vrsws.sos.ky.gov/vic/, or the McCreary County Clerk’s Office.

The machines to be used in the election will be inspected and certified on February 9.
