Lady Raiders fall to Wayne

After a patient start, the Lady Cardinals broke through to hand the Lady Raiders an 81-56 loss Saturday night.

The Lady Raiders opened with the lead on an Ally Anderson trey 90 seconds in to the game, and held on to their advantage until Wayne County grabbed the lead for good with 2:21 left in the period. The Lady Cardinals continued to pull away, increasing their lead to 4-points by the end of the quarter.

Wayne County turned it up in the second quarter, outscoring McCreary 28-15 over the 8 minutes to take a 43-26 lead into the break

The Lady Raiders managed to slow the pace in the third quarter, limiting Wayne to only 16 points, while adding 17 of their own, but the gap was too far to overcome and Wayne rolled on to the win.

With the loss McCreary fell to 0-4 in District play and will face Wayne County (2-2) again in the opening round of the 48th District Tournament, to be held the week of February 22 at McCreary Central High School. The winner of the game will face Southwestern (4-0) for the District Championship.

Wayne County has defeated the Lady Raiders twice this season by a combined score of 149-97.

The Lady Raiders finish out the regular season with five more games on the schedule. Friday night they travel to East Jessamine as part of a boys/girls double header, then host Clinton County on Saturday evening. On Monday they will travel to Rockcastle County before hosting Pulaski County on Tuesday. That game will be the final home game of the season and will honor all graduating seniors on the team. McCreary wraps up the regular season next Friday night at Garrard County.
