Man arrested after assaulting woman

The Kentucky State Police reports a Tennessee man was arrested last week after allegedly assaulting a woman in the parking lot of a local business.

According to KSP Detective Billy Correll an investigation was initiated after a report of an assault on a female on Wednesday, February 3.

Detective Correll reports the female victim had reportedly pulled in to the parking lot of an unnamed business last Wednesday evening, walked to the door, only to find the business had closed.

As she was returning to her vehicle she was approached by Dewayne M. Chambers, 54, of Huntsville.

Chambers allegedly grabbed the female and attempted to pull her in to his vehicle. He managed to get her part way into the car, but the victim fought back and managed to escape to her vehicle – suffering from minor injuries.

As she left the location she spotted McCreary County Sheriff’s Deputy Odell Smith and alerted him to the assault.

The deputy was able to initiate a traffic stop on Chambers before he could leave the area.

Chambers was arrested and charged with Sexual Abuse 1st Degree and Unlawful Imprisonment 1st Degree. He was lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center.

The investigation is continuing.
