Busy Bees

McCreary Central High School was buzzing with activity during last weekend’s Bee School.  Rotating locations each year between McCreary and Whitley Counties, this year’s event drew more than one hundred individuals including one bee enthusiast from Nashville, TN.  The Big South Fork Beekeepers’ Club, under the umbrella of the McCreary County Extension Service, hosts the event when it is held in McCreary  County.  Local members of the club also teach some of the classes. One participant remarked on the quality of this year’s classes by saying that all of the speakers and session information were excellent. The classes covered a wide array of “sweet” topics including beginning beekeeping, growing bee friendly plants, cooking with honey, and involving children with beekeeping. The McCreary Central Future Farmers of America (FFA) club sponsored a delicious pulled pork luncheon for those attending the event. One happy beekeeper summed this year’s event up by simply saying, “It’s been a fine day!”
