School Board Approves Amended School Calendar

Spring Break for McCreary County students will be shorter than planned, but summer vacation will start sooner as well after the McCreary County Board of Education voted to use some of the break days as make-up days Thursday night.
In their regular March meeting, The Board voted to approve an amended school calendar, which allows students to pull their last day of classes on Friday, June 3, barring any further cancellations of school. Students will “make up” three days of school in April leaving them with a two day spring break on April 7 and 8. McCreary Central High School’s graduation will be on Saturday, June 4.
The Board also adopted a resolution authorizing the McCreary County School District Finance Corporation to issue refunding revenue bonds. According to spokesmen for Ross, Sinclair, & Associates, the move will result in a projected savings of $427,102 over a twelve year period. The bonds to be refinanced are bonds issued in 2008 at an average rate of 4.3%. The current estimated interest rate for the refinanced bonds is 2.55%.
School and Central Office reports were given by individual principals and Central Office staff. Citing the need to share positive happenings within the School District, Superintendent Michael Cash stated the reports will be featured on a regular basis during future meetings. Principals recognized their academic teams for successful competitions and those teams/individuals going on to compete in state academic tournaments. Pine Knot Intermediate recognized their students of the month.
The next regular meeting of the McCreary County Board of Education will be Thursday, April 14, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. at the Central Office.
