Sterling CoffeySterling Edward Coffey, Jr. age 67 years, 5 months, and 21 days of Stearns, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, December 13, 2014 at the Physicians Regional Medical Center in Knoxville, Tennessee.

In accordance to Mr. Coffey’s wishes, his remains were cremated. The family will receive friends on Friday, December 19, 2014 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home.

He was born June 22, 1947 in Co-operative, Kentucky  to Sterling Coffey and Ester (Dobbs) Coffey. Sterling enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Preceding him in death are his parents, and a sister, Joann Coffey.

Survivors include his brother, Wade Coffey and wife, Lora, of Alcoa, Tennessee; sisters, Joyce Nelson, Hazel Matthews, Ellen Combs, and Susan Marcum; and several nieces and nephews.

Meadors, Bill picMr. Loring “Bill” Meadors, passed from this life on Friday, December 12, 2014, at the McCreary Health and Rehabilitation Center in Pine Knot, Kentucky.  He had attained the age of 76 years, 5 months and 3 days.

Bill was born on Marsh Creek in McCreary County, Kentucky, on July 9, 1938.  He was the son of the late Elmon and Fannie (Lawson) Meadors. Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Elmon Meadows, Jr. and an infant sister; Frankie Meadors.

Surviving family include a daughter Connie Hardwick of Winfield, Tennessee, a brother Paul Meadors of Peebles, Ohio, two sisters; Margie Hamlin of Cincinnati, Ohio and Helen Rixner of Glendale, Ohio, two grandchildren; Mark and Matthew Phillips of Oneida, Tennessee, and a special nephew David Farris of Toledo, Ohio.

Bill was a farmer and had worked as a high lift operator for the paper mill yard in Pine Knot.  He had attended the Hayes Creek Church of God.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 16, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home.  Burial will be at the Old Jellico Creek Cemetery.

Joanne Perry age 78, wife of Darvin Perry, of Harrison, Ohio, formerly of Stearns, passed away Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at the Shawneespring of Harrison.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 20, 2014 at 11:00 am at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home. Burial to follow in the McCreary Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Friday at 6:00 pm at the Funeral Home.

Myrtle Worley age 93, widow of Howard Worley, of Marshes Siding, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 21, 2014 at 2:00 pm at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home. Burial to follow in the Lower Hickory Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday after 6:00 pm at the Funeral Home.

Mittie Anderson pictureMittie Etta Anderson age 91 of Strunk, Kentucky passed away Monday December 1, 2014 at Hospice Care Center One in Lexington, Kentucky.

Mittie was a member of the Mt. Pleasant United Baptist Church. She and her husband, Samuel whom she married on May 31, 1941 delivered mail for the Strunk Post Office for over 40 years.  They started their route on horseback serving the communities of Otter Creek, Ross Town, Blue Herron, and Round Top. Mittie enjoyed going to the nursing home and visiting with the elderly. She also enjoyed going to the senior citizens center. Her hobby was scrapbooking.

Mittie was born October 28, 1923.  She was the daughter of the late Robert N. Wilson and Rosa Rebecca (King) Wilson. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Samuel Anderson that passed away December 29, 1985, a son Palace Anderson, grandson Samuel Anderson, son-in-law Ronald Duncan, two brothers Emby Wilson, Columbus Wilson, five sisters; Flora Roberts, Alene King, Wilda Wilson, Frances Wilson, and Rosie Wilson.

Surviving family include two daughters; Temple Duncan, Strunk, Kentucky, Shirley Thompson and Roy, Georgetown, Kentucky, one brother Raymond Wilson and Casia of Pine Knot, Kentucky. Mittie has nine grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 3:00p.m. Saturday, December 6, 2014 in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Rev. Norman Burk and Rev. Ronnie Roberts.  Burial was in the Anderson Cemetery.

lena coffyMs. Lena “Leva” (Dobbs) Coffey, of Stearns, Kentucky, departed this life at the Springfield Health and Rehab Center, in Springfield, Kentucky, on December 4, 2014 being 91 years, 6 months, and 22 days old. She was born in Rattlesnake Ridge, Kentucky, on May 12, 1923 daughter of the late Edger and Florida Dobbs.

Lena was a member of the Gibson Way Church and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her husband; George Lawrence Coffey, Brother; Howard Dobbs, daughter; Sheila May Coffey.

Survived by her four sons; Robert and Allen Coffey, both of Stearns, Kentucky, Billy J. Coffey, of Sandhill, and Tommy Coffey and wife Breva  of Pine Knot, Kentucky, Daughter; Lozina Coffey, of Pine Knot, Kentucky, five grandchildren; Arizona, Virgina, and Delford, Jennifer, April, and Tonya,  five great grandchildren; Jessica, Mason, Maeleigh, Jordan, and Stormy.

Funeral Services for Ms. Coffey were conducted on Monday, December 8, 2014 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of the McCreary County Funeral Home. Burial will followed in the Sherd Dobbs Cemetery.

2014_12_08_11_05_040001Mr. Morris Winford Coffey departed this life on Sunday, December 7, 2014 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital, In Somerset, Kentucky, being 70 years, 11 months, and 17 days old. He was born in Barthell, Kentucky, on December 20, 1943 son of the late Clyde and Jean Dee (Pryor) Coffey.

He worked for the State Highway Department for 14 years; also worked at Cumberland Falls State Park, He was of the Baptist Faith; enjoyed fishing, hunting, trading, bartering, he had the biggest heart and always wanted to give, he loved collecting antiques and spending time with family and friends.

Along with his parents he is preceded in death by a special Grandfather and Grandmother; John and Ollie Coffey, Brother; Charles Coffey, grandparents; Bill and Beatrice Pryor.

He is survived by his Wife Shirley (Ballou) Coffey, of Whitley City, Kentucky, son; Ronald Coffey and wife Sheila of Parkers Lake, Kentucky, daughter; Mindy Coffey-Jones and husband Mike, of Whitley City, Kentucky, brothers; Teddy Coffey and wife Myrtle, of Whitley City, Kentucky, David Ray Coffey and wife Imogene of Cincinnati, Ohio, Allen “Pat” Coffey and wife Lois, of Whitley City, Kentucky, Kenny Coffey, of Pine Knot, Kentucky, Milford  Coffey, of Ohio, sisters; Fayrene Hall, of Ohio,  Nona Rains and husband Howard, of Ohio,  Step mother; Edna Coffey, of Pine Knot, Kentucky, Grandchildren; Ethan Jones, Evan Jones, Michola Jones.

Cooper, Marion Buddy picMarion “Buddy” Henderson Cooper, age 87, of Pine Knot, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, November 30, 2014, at Marcum and Wallace Hospital in Irvine, Kentucky.

Marion had been a salesman and  was of the Baptist faith.

Born March 22, 1927, he was the son of the late Sheridan and Eva (Watters) Cooper. He is preceded in death by his father and mother Sheridan and Eva (Watters) Copper and two sons; Marion and Tony Henderson Cooper and two brothers; Delbert and Castle Josh Cooper and one sister; Ruby Kelly and two grandchildren. Marion also has four half brothers; Noble, Arville, Willie, and Lonnie Cooper and two half sisters; Minnie  Pennington and Diva Cooper that precede him in death.

Surviving family include three sons; Bobby Cooper of Whitley City, Ralph Cooper of Frankfort, Kentucky, Lester Caddell of Hendersonville, North Carolina, four daughters; Carol Jones and George of  Whitley City, Kentucky, Ora Mae Gray and Marcum of Corbin, Kentucky, Lily Anderson of Corbin, Kentucky and Mary Cooper and Eddie Neal of Pine Knot, Kentucky. Marion also has two brothers; JB Cooper of Winfield, Tennessee,   and Thurman Cooper of Pine Knot, Kentucky and two sisters; Vonnie Watson and Mary Jo Slaven both of Oneida, Tennessee. Marion has twelve grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.  He has fourteen great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held at 2:00p.m. Wednesday, December 3, 2014 in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Rev. David Troxell officiating.  Burial was in Kidd Cemetery.

Madonna Daugherty pictureMadonna Carol (Slavey) Daugherty, age 67, of Strunk, Kentucky, passed from this life on Friday, December 5, 2014, at the Physicians Regional Medical Center in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Donna was born July 25, 1947, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to the late Walter and Jenny (Harold) Slavey.  Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by a granddaughter Layla Dople and a sister Jeanie Spradlin.

Surviving family include her husband of 46 years, James Edgar Daugherty of Strunk, whom she married May 23, 1969.  She has two sons; Tony (and Seprena) Daugherty of Oneida, Tennessee and Jason Daugherty of Pine Knot, a daughter Angela Hope (Daugherty) (and Teddy) Dople of Pine Knot.  She has eight grandchildren; Patience (and Jonathan) Taylor, Destiny (and Jeremiah) Hall, Jacob Daugherty, Caleb Dople, Makayla Daugherty, Dylan Daugherty, Carolline Dople, Dusty Daugherty, and two great grandchildren; Karma and Kason Taylor.  She has three sisters; Diane (and David) Burchfield of Strunk, Rita (and Bill) Strunk of Nicholasville, and Debbie Spradlin of Sidney, Ohio and a brother-in-law; Curt Spradlin of Rockford, Ohio.

Donna was a homemaker and member of the Meadows Grove United Baptist Church.  She enjoyed fishing and crafts and took great pleasure in her children, grandchildren and all her family.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 9, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Bro. Bill King and Bro. Norman Burk officiating.  She will be laid to rest at the Daugherty Taylor Family Cemetery in Strunk, Kentucky.

GORDIN DAVISMr. Gordon L. Davis, age 78, of Stearns, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, December 6, 2014, at the Continue Care Hospital in Corbin, Kentucky.

Gordon was born in Wayne County, Kentucky, on February 25, 1936, the son of the late Rev. James Ephraim and Minnie Hester (New) Davis.  Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Velvie (Troxell) Davis, his brothers; Dewey, Hubert, Clayton and Earl Davis and sisters; Vina Davis Maxwell, Zona Davis Cooper and infant Marie Davis.  Deceased nieces and nephews are Jo Ann Maxwell Lyons, Dillard Henry Maxwell, Nancy Ann Maxwell, and Freddy Davis.

Surviving family include nieces and nephews; Jerry Jr. Maxwell (and Linda), Katherine Maxwell, Rubie Maxwell, Lander Perry Judge Maxwell, Della Maxwell Young (and Richard), Beulah Maxwell, Virgil Lee Maxwell, Ronnie Davis, Barbara Ann Davis Nicholas, Rosa Davis, Melba Davis, and Danny Davis.  There are also great nieces and nephews in Whitley City and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews in Cincinnati, Ohio.

In accordance with the family’s wishes, Mr. Davis will be cremated and his remains are to be interred at the Wright Cemetery in Parkers Lake, Kentucky.

Linda Sue EgnewLinda Sue Egnew  age 43 years and 3 months of Louisville, Kentucky formerly of Stearns passed away Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at her home.

Funeral services were held Friday, December 5, 2014 at 3:00 pm at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home with Bro. Braxton King officiating. Burial followed in the Holloway Cemetery.

She was born September 3, 1971 in Oneida, Tennessee to Edgar and Thelma Jean (Crabtree) Owens. Linda was a Phlebotomist, and enjoyed collecting antiques, spending time with family, and watching old TV shows and old movies.

Preceding her in death are her parents.

Survivors include her sons, Chris Egnew of Nashville, Tennessee and Jackson Windburn and his father, Ron of Louisville, Kentucky; sisters, Rita Anderson and husband, Roger of Whitley City, Kentucky and Brenda Hamlin and husband, Dwayne of Pine Knot, Kentucky; and nieces and nephews, Ray Troxell, Andy West, McKayla Hamlin and Marah Hamlin.

holland vanoverMr. Holland “Hol” Vanover departed this life on December 2, 2014 at Continued Care Hospital in Corbin, Kentucky, being 85 years, 4 months, 24 days old.

He was born in McCreary County, Kentucky on July 8, 1929 son of the late Robert and Eldora (Stephens) Vanover. He was a member of the Indian Creek Baptist Church, he enjoyed coon hunting, flea marketing, bluegrass music, country music, dancing, spending time with family and friends. He was a deputy Sheriff and Constable in McCreary County, Kentucky, a bus driver, and a logger.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife; Phyllis (Jones) Vanover, Daughter; Vicki Lynn Vanover (Stephens), Brothers; Roy, Harry, Bill, Coy, Claude, Lonnie, Ray, Ralph, and Joe Vanover, sisters; Minnie and Flonnie Vanover, Helen Patrick, and Linnie Perkins.

Holland is survived by his son; Michael Vanover and wife Susan of Revelo, Kentucky, Grandchildren; Misty, Shane, Johnathan, Tracy, and Jeremy, ten great grandchildren, special extended family Sharon Petrey and family, special extended family Pam Sullivan and family.

Funeral Services were conducted on Friday, December 5, 2014 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of the McCreary County Funeral Home with officiating Clergy Bro. Billy Patrick. Burial followed in the Higginbotham Cemetery.

Lois Childers PicThelma Lois Childers, age 71, of Strunk, Kentucky, passed away Monday, November 24, 2014 at Pioneer Community Hospital in Scott Co. Tennessee.
Funeral Services were held Friday November 28, 2014 at 8:00p.m in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Bro. Willis Troxell and Rev. Norman Burke officiating. Burial was Saturday at 11:00a.m. at the Hill Cemetery at Strunk.
Thelma was a member of Upper Marsh Creek Church. She enjoyed reading her Bible and spending time with her family. She also enjoyed traveling when she was able to.
Born June 16, 1943, in McCreary County, Kentucky, Thelma was the daughter of the late Lloyd and Elsie (Green) Wilson. She is preceded in death by her father and mother Lloyd and Elsie Wilson and her two brothers; Philip Wilson and Morris Wilson and two sisters; Joyce Anderson and Wanda Thompson.
Surviving family include her husband Steve Childers, a son Thomas Trammell and his companion Jennifer Neely of Somerset, three daughters; Anna and Ronnie Ross of Strunk Kentucky, Virginia and Tyrone Stewart of Oneida Tennessee, Jennifer and Randy Freeman of Strunk. She has seven grandchildren; Destiny, Zachariah, Megan, Sean, Dakota, Amber, Dylan and one great-grandchild; Maddox.
She also has two brothers; Jack Wilson and James “Jim” Wilson both of Strunk, Kentucky and several nieces and nephews.
Thelma will be sadly missed by all that knew her.

Jay Constant picRev. Jay W. Constant, age 85, passed peacefully from this life on Thursday, November 27, 2014, at his home in Pine Knot, Kentucky.
Jay was an ordained Freewill Baptist Minister. He owned and operated his own pest control business and worked in the Marysville, California rescue mission.  In his earlier years he enjoyed fishing, water skiing and riding horses. When he moved to Pine Knot, he helped start the New Beginnings outreach program and took great pleasure in counseling people with drug and alcohol problems.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a member of the Pine Knot Freewill Baptist Church.
He was born January 19, 1929, in Paragould, Arkansas, to the late George Henry and Della May (Yates) Constant.  Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by a daughter Kathy Stephens and son David William Constant, four brothers; Lee, Albert, Roy and Rowland Constant and two sisters; Dicie Bledsoe and Suzie Lessman..
Surviving family include his wife Billie (Edison) Constant of Pine Knot, two daughters; Pamela Sue (and Gary) Stephens of Pine Knot, Jennifer Gail (and Rick) Thomas of Pine Knot, a daughter-in-law Gail (Mendes) Constant of Pine Knot, son-in-law Gerald Stephens of Pine Knot, six grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday, November 30, 2014, at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Bro. Dennis Bryant, and Bro. Wayne Nelson officiating.  Special music was by the Whitehead Family.   In accordance with his wishes, he was cremated.

Marion “Buddy” Cooper, age 87, of Pine Knot, Kentucky passed away Sunday November 30, 2014 at the Marcum and Wallace Hospital in Ervin, Kentucky. Funeral service were Wednesday December 3, 2014 at 2:00pm in the chapel of the Pine Knot Funeral Home with burial to follow at the Kidd Cemetery  in Pine Knot, Kentucky.

Ernest PerkinsMr. Ernest Lewis Perkins of Whitley City, Kentucky, departed this life at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital on November 28, 2014 being 98 years, 8 months, and 3 days old. He was born in Whitley City, Kentucky, on March 25, 1916 the son of the late Lewis and Emma (Bryant) Perkins.
He was a member of the Whitley City First Baptist Church; a member of the American Legion post 115; and a member of the three C’s, Ernest received an honorable discharge from serving in the US NAVY in 1946. He worked for 28 years at Western Auto Store.
Earnest is preceded in death by his parents; his wife; Edna Keith Perkins whom he married in 1949, brothers and sisters; Arthur Sewell Perkins, Bertha Lee Perkins, Luther Hayes Perkins, Laura May Perkins, Flora Jane Perkins, Tommy Estell Perkins, Nora Mildred Perkins and Moffie Meadows.
He is survived by three sons; Ernest Perkins Jr. and wife Gale of Florence, KY, Richard Dick Morgan, Bruce Morgan and wife Lois Maria of Mississippi, one daughter; Jean Jones and husband George of Cincinnati, Ohio, Twelve Grand Children, Twenty Great Grand-Children and two Great-Great Grandchildren.
In Accordance’s with Mr. Perkins wishes there will be no funeral services.

Cilfford PerryClifford Gene Perry, age 76, passed away Saturday, Nov. 22, 2014, at the Hospice of Cincinnati in West Hills, Ohio.
Mr. Perry, was a retired upkeep operator for Anchor Glass Manufacturing in Lawrenceburg, Indiana for some 34 years.  He was a loving family man and when he was able, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and boating on Laurel Lake.
Mr. Perry was born in McCreary County on November 14, 1938, to the late Earlie Virgil and Hattie (Watson) Perry.  Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by sisters; Nora Sumner, Linda Lou Vanover, Dora Perry and a brother Arlin Perry.
Surviving family include his wife Elsie (Bryant) Perry of Lawrenceburg, a son Terry (and Trish) Perry of Lawrenceburg, two daughters; Shirley Perry, Lawrenceburg and Sharon (and Frank) White, Dillsboro, Indiana.  Clifford and Elsie have six grandchildren; Andrew Perry, Zach Israel, Lindsay White, Justin White, Makayla White and Haley White.
Surviving brothers are Starling (and Della) Perry, Darvin (and Joanna) Perry, Carl Dean (and Katherine) Perry, and James Ray (and Mary) Perry and sister Wanda Fay (and Ray) McCullah.
Funeral services were held Wednesday November 26, 2014, at 12:00 noon in the chapel of the McCreary Co. Funeral Home.  Burial followed at the Taylor Ridge Cemetery.

Ross, Bobby picMr. Bobby D. Ross, age 73, passed away Sunday, November 23, 2014, at his home in Whitley City, Kentucky.
He was born February 17, 1941, in Whitley City, Kentucky, to the late Donald and Zelma (Foster) Ross.  He is preceded in death by his parents.
Surviving family include his wife Jean (Waters) Ross of Whitley City whom he married July 6, 1965, in Ringgold, Georgia,  a son Robert Don (and Lora A.) Ross of Union, KY daughters; Sandra Dene (and Lane) Godby of Crittenden, KY and Staci Nicole (Jeremy) Singleton of Stearns, KY brother; Gerald R. Ross of Falmouth, Kentucky, two sisters; Janice Ball an Frances Ball of Whitley City.  He and Jean have five grandchildren; River Singleton, Tyler, Logan, Chase and Rylee Ross.
Bobby was a retired postal worker for the Cincinnati Annex and Airport post offices.  He was a member of the Whitley City Second Baptist Church and he attended Upper Hickory Grove Church.  He served his country in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Kinne Slaven Post 115 of the American Legion.  He enjoyed sports, outdoor work and outdoor living.  He liked to read and he loved children and being a foster parent.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 26, 2014, in the chapel  Pine Knot Funeral Home with Bro. Eddie King officiating.  He was laid to rest at the Thomas Ross Cemetery at Ross Grove Church.

Bernice StephensBernice Celeste Stephens of Whitley City, Kentucky, departed this life on Sunday, November 30, 2014 at the McCreary County Health and Rehab Center being 93 years, 8 months and 20 days old. Funeral Services were conducted on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at 8:00 PM in the Chapel of the McCreary County Funeral Home.
Bernice had been a cook and custodian in the McCreary County School system. She was a member of the Whitley City, Church of God; she enjoyed cooking and attending church functions, and enjoyed baby sitting her niece. She was born March 10, 1921 in McCreary County, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Ervin and Bella (Stevens) Clark.
She is preceded in death by her daughter and son-in-law Margret Sue and Edward Smith. She has three brothers; George, Garrison, and Bill Clark, three sisters; Glenna Bell, Gladys Shepherd, Frieda Frost. She is Survived by her son; Larry Loudermilk and Loraine Of Whitley City, Kentucky three grandchildren; Bryson Loudermilk, Daphne Loze, Kathy Rampy, and six great-grandchildren; Noah, Daniel, Megan, Britt, Mary and Shelly.

Lois Stephens picLois Neal Stephens, age 86, of Pine Knot, Kentucky, passed from this life on Tuesday, November 25, 2014, at the Jean Waddle Care Center in Somerset, Kentucky.
Lois was a retired store clerk having owned and operated Lois Neal Grocery for over 50 years.  She was a member of the Davis Hill Church of God and enjoyed being a prayer warrier.  She also enjoyed sewing and quilting when she was able.
Born April 26, 1928, in Clearfield, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Jess and Sarah (Moses) Smiddy.  Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by a sister Darlene Ball and four brothers; Garrett Smiddy, Charles Smiddy, Bill Smiddy and Homer Smiddy.
Surviving family include her husband Ledford Stephens of Pine Knot, her children; Bertis Lee Neal, Elmer Daniel Neal (and Alice), and Patricia Worley (and Michael) all of Pine Knot, a brother; Ed Smiddy (and JoAnn) of Pine Knot, eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

wanda strunkMrs. Wanda Jane Strunk of Marshes Siding, Kentucky, departed this life on November 29, 2014 at the UK Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky being 66 years, 6 months and 6 days old. She was born in Somerset, Kentucky on May 23, 1948 the daughter of the late Dan and Virginia (Black) Webb.
Wanda was a member of the Marshes Siding Church of God, She enjoyed cooking, fishing, collecting antiques, gardening, quilting, and most of all spending time with her grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; Alvin Webb, Robert Webb, and Kenneth Webb, five sisters; Mary Ann Strunk, Wilma Webb, Nelda Dixion, Lois Ann Trammell, Shirley Webb.
Surviving family includes her husband; Lloyd Strunk whom they have been married for 50 years, they were married November 7, 1964 on Williamsburg Street, Kentucky, one daughter; Vickie Ross of Parkers Lake and her companion of eleven years Mike Applegate, two brothers; Jim Ray Webb of Whitley City, Kentucky, Norman Webb of Stearns, Kentucky, two grandchildren; Chelsea Ross and Clark Ross.

Paige picMaKenzie Paige West, of Strunk, Kentucky, passed from this life on Wednesday, November 26, 2014, at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky.  She was 19 years, five months and 14 days old.
Paige was born in Somerset, Kentucky, on June 12, 1995.  She was the daughter of Shannon “Bud” and Tiffeny Jean (Ross) West.  She is survived by her parents Bud and Tiffeny West of Strunk, a sister Whitney RaShae West of Strunk, Grandparents; Jack and Pernie (Burchfield) West and Bob and Ramona Ross all of Strunk, a brother; Alex Phillips of Stearns and aunts and uncles; Sandy (and John) Bruce of Strunk, Jacqueline West of Somerset, Robert Shawn Ross (and Amy) of Lexington and Ashley West of Pine Knot.  She also leaves a host of cousins and friends.
Paige was a McCreary Central High School graduate of the Class of 2014.  She fought a good fight, she finished her course with much courage and grace and she kept the faith.  She will be greatly missed.

Pheobia Bowman, age 53, of Whitley City passed away Monday, November 3, 2014.

Gwin Austin Chapman, Beloved husband of Bentia Pellillo Chapman. Dear father of Chad (Tisha) Chapman. Loving grandfather of Nicholas Chapman. rickey keithRickey Clayton Keith of Stearns, Kentucky, departed this life at the Pioneer Community Hospital on October 27, 2014 being 52 years, 2 months, and 24 days old.  Rickey was born on August 3, 1962 son of the late Paul Keith and Sarah Nevels.

He was a member of the United Pentecostal Church in Sidney, Ohio, Rickey was such a charter; he loved to sing into his tooth brush or hairbrush, never a dull moment; some of his favorite music was country music; he was a huge Marilyn Monroe fan, had a great sense of humor, he enjoyed telling stories and spending time with this grandchildren and his great niece Diamond McDonald.

Along with Rickey’s parents he is preceded in death by his brother; Eugene Keith.

Floyd Meadows, age 84 Of Indianapolis, Indiana and formerly of McCreary County, Kentucky passed away on Thursday October 30, 2014 at his home in Indianapolis, Indiana. Dillard Ball picMr. James Dillard Ball, age 87, passed from this life on Friday, November 7, 2014, at his home in Pine Knot, Kentucky.

Dillard had been a grounds supervisor with the United States Forest Service for more than 25 years.  He had also worked in a machine shop and for D. H. Campbell for many years.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the Korean Conflict.  He enjoyed coon hunting, farming and gardening.  He was always proud of his garden.

He was born in Pine Knot, Kentucky, on February 22, 1927, to the late Sherman and Etta (Hamlin) Ball.  He is preceded in death by his parents, a son; Roger Kyle Ball and an infant son, two brothers; Louis Ball and Don Ball, and three sisters; Alene Hasten, Faye Portland, and Pauline Webb.

Surviving family include his wife of 65 years, Ruth (Stephens) Ball whom he married April 1, 1948 of Pine Knot, three daughters; Velvie Byrd (and Joe) of Taylor Michigan, Diane Stephens (and Larry) of Pine Knot, and Wilma Neal (and Jerry) of Whitley City, a brother; Bennie Ball (and Wanda) of Pine Knot, and a sister; Elsie Smith (and Floyd) of Dayton, Ohio.

Dillard and Ruth were blessed with eight grandchildren; Sherri Lynn King,  Darren Ball, Tony Byrd, Chrissy Brown, Eric Morrow, Jennifer Kidd, James Stephens and Maria Harris, 18 great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services were Wednesday, November 12, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Rev. Harvey Logan and Rev. Pheobia was born in Jellico, Tennessee, on July 24, 1961, to the late James Melvin and Dora Ida Mae (Morgan) Boman.  Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by brothers; Kenneth Eugene Bowman, William Ray Bowman and wife Ora, and James Larry Bowman, sister Bonita Rose Swartz, and brother-in-law Cecil Strunk.

Surviving family include sisters; Sylvia Cloda Strunk of Cincinnati, Ohio, Patsy Ross, Lenoir City, Tennessee, Nancy Kay (and Teddy) Ball, Stearns, and Kathelene Hamlin of Stearns, brother David Cecil Bowman, Mt. Orb, Ohio sister-in-law Hettie Bowman, Smithtown, Kentucky, and brother-in-law Clem Swartz of McAllen, Texas.

Pheobia loved her nieces and nephews more than anything. They are; Sharon Whitehead, Rosie Roberts, Randall Dewayne Bowman, Kenneth Bowman, Scott Bowman, Robin Redmond, Penny Damrell, Brian Bowman, Sarah King, Mark Bowman, Karen Covert, Debbie Metzmeier, Ronnie Strunk, Loretta Bowman, Betty Bowman, Freddie Bowman, Jerry Bowman, Billy Ray Bowman, Jimmy Bowman, Bruce Bowman, Janet Bowman, Lisa Roberts, Nanette Thomas, David Bowman, Jr., Dora Johnson, James Swartz, Jr., Felicite Jane Stephens, Tedessa Thompson, Jennifer Stogsdill, Lucas Hamlin, Jacob Hamlin and many great nieces and nephews that meant the world to her.

Pheobia was retired from Dr. Winchester, Patton and Burgess’s office as a billing and insurance clerk.  She was a member of the Flat Rock Missionary Baptist Church.  She had been a piano teacher, choir and music director and minister of music at Stearns First Baptist Church.  She sang for recitals and special events.  Music and her nieces and nephews was her main love in life.  She taught all the family who wanted to learn about music.  Pheobia was a beloved friend to many and a special sister that was the cornerstone of the family.  She was all things to all people and will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Ro Jones picRoy Allen “Shug” Jones, age 67, of Stearns, Kentucky, passed away Friday, November 7, 2014, at his home in Stearns, Kentucky.

Roy had been a truck driver for Thunderbird Coal Company, and was a member of the Cedar Grove Baptist Church.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing and playing Bingo.

He was born in Slavens, Kentucky, on  August 6, 1947, to the late Batie and Ethel (Vaughn) Jones.  Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers; George Amos Jones and Roger Wendell Jones.

Surviving family include his wife Patricia Sue (Kennedy) Jones, two sons; Scott Allen (and Diana) Kennedy of Monticello, Kentucky and Christopher Jones, a sister; Doris Ann Jones of Stearns, and two brothers; Daniel Jones of Pine Knot and Lynn Jones of Stearns.  He has two grandchildren; Scott Kennedy, Jr. and Trevor Kennedy.

floydFloyd Thomas Meadows, age 84, of Indianapolis, Indiana and formerly of McCreary County, Kentucky departed this life on Thursday, October 30, 2014 at his home in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was born on March 22, 1930 in McCreary County, Kentucky to the late Frank Meadows and Sarah (Taylor) Meadows. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Bessie Marie Meadows; and a daughter, Sandra Joy Meadows.

He is survived by his two daughters, Sharon Moore and Lynn Gay (Darrell), of Indianapolis, Indiana; six grandchildren, James Floyd Moore (Jane) of Martinsville, Indiana and Cathy Jo Privett (Clay), Sharon Marie Jester (Beau), Cassandra Joy Ratcliff, Heather Lynn Taylor and Christina Taylor, of Indianapolis, Indiana; seven great-grandchildren, Bobby Moore, Megan Privett, Kaleb Privett, Kate Lynn Privett, Madyson Ratcliff, Jordan Spears and Wesley Bryant Jr.; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends to mourn his passing.

jackieJackie Lynn Neal, age 59, passed from this life on Sunday, November 9, 2014, at his home in Strunk, Kentucky.

Jackie was a retired coal miner having worked in the mines for 27 years, last working for Greenwood Land and Mining Company.  He was a logger for Jim and Todd Martin and a truck driver.  He was a hard worker and a jack of all trades.  In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, trapping, coon hunting, and watching people train horses.  He loved farming, animals and enjoyed life to the fullest.  He especially loved his family who will truly miss him.

Jackie was born July 5, 1955, to the late Darrell and Magdalene (Lay) Neal.   Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by two sisters; Eileen Marion and Gail Neal Moore.

Surviving family include two sons; Jackie Neal, Jr. and Bradley Howard both of Strunk, and two daughters; Crystal Neal Richmond of Russell Springs, Kentucky, and Lisa Neal Wilson of Strunk.  He has two brothers; Davy and Delmar Neal both of Strunk, a sister,  Ella Moore, of Pine Knot, seven grandchildren; Neatina, Blake, Kaidence Faith, Tyler, Jeremiah, Jordan, and Kylie, one great grandchild, Kailynn, and the mother of his children; Julie Ann Neal.

She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio to Jr. Patton and Virleen (Henson) Patton. She is preceded in death by her parents a son; Terry Shawn Patton two grand daughters; Victoria Patton, Angel Weinel, and a sister; Donna Kidd.

She is survived by her husband; Darrell Ramey of 32 years, two sons; Justin Ramey and wife Jodie of Pine Knot, and James Patton of Wayne County Ky. two daughters; Cheryl Ramey and husband Dominic Strunk of Pine Knot, Ky. and Rosa Patton of Falmouth, Ky.

She has eleven Grandchildren; Megan Patton, Tiffany Goins, Morgan Patton, Kelsey Patton, Michaela Patton, Selena Ramey, Madyson Weinel, Marissa Weinel, Ethan Strunk, Malachi Strunk, Nathaniel Strunk and Aiylah Runyon.

Elaine has three sisters; Dorleen Young of Knoxville, Regina Sharp of Whitley City, and Vicky Patton of Pine Knot, She has one brother Bill Patton of Falmouth, Ky. She also leaves a host of nieces and nephews.

Elaine was of the Baptist faith she had attended Hill Top Church. She enjoyed hunting, fishing, crocheting and friends. Elaine was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

He was born in McCreary County, Kentucky on March 10, 1935, the son of the late Sheardie and Mattie Phillips Dobbs.  Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers and sisters; Willard Dobbs, Estil Dobbs, Carl Dobbs, Stanley Dobbs, Leslie Dobbs, Kathleen Dobbs and Doris Dobbs.
He was united in marriage to Wilma Jean (Jones) Dobbs on November 28, 1959, and they had 14 children:  Carolyn (and Tom) Abbott of Stearns, Kathy (and Wayne) Dishman of Stearns, Bradley Dobbs of Stearns, Frank (and Donna) Dobbs of Stearns, Irene (and Mickey) Ard of Wayne County, Julie (and Charles) Smith of Stearns, Thomas (and Dealie) Dobbs of Stearns, Sandy (and Shane) Lowe of Stearns, Randy (and Lynn) Dobbs of Stearns, David (and Kim) Dobbs of Wayne County, Timothy (and Becky) Dobbs of Stearns, Janie (and Jason) Adkins of Stearns, and Nora and Zora Dobbs who are deceased.
He has a brother Donald Dobbs of Stearns and a sister Betty (Dobbs) Jones also of Stearns.  Dester and Wilma was blessed with 24 grandchildren (1 deceased), 20 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
Dester had been a coal miner and a logger most of his life.  He had worked for Harrison Steel at one time and drove a bus for the McCreary County Schools.  He was a member of the Cherokee United Baptist Church since the age of 17.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing and working with his flowers and fruit trees.  He leaves behind a great legacy and will be greatly missed.

Memorial services were held Thursday, at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of the McCreary County Funeral Home.  Burial followed at the Pine Knot Cemetery.
Tim was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on April 9, 1968, to the late Harold King and Carolyn Bryant.  His parents precede him in death.  Surviving family include four sisters; Linda Gilreath of Pine Knot, Tina Strunk of Pine Knot, Sandy Stephens of Whitley City and Kim King of Strunk, and three brothers; Harold King, Jr. of Strunk, Ricky King and Rocky King both of Pine Knot.  He has 22 nieces and nephews and 18 great nieces and nephews.
Tim enjoyed music and movies, being outdoors and doing outside work.  He liked to camp and fish but most of all he loved being around his family and friends.

Thomas was the supervisor at Mid-State Automotive in Somerset, Kentucky for ten years. He was of the Baptist faith; He enjoyed jeep riding, deer hunting, coon hunting, and spending time with his family and friends; his most favorite thing was to spend time with his grandchildren.
Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his wife Tammy Kay (Daugherty) Roberts, Niece; Jessica Roberts.
Thomas is survived by two daughters; Ashley Watson and husband Robert Watson, of Stearns, Kentucky,  Robin Burton of Strunk, Kentucky, three brothers; Tim Roberts and Companion Diane Crabtree, Scott and his wife Sandra Roberts, Jess and wife Felicia Roberts, all of Strunk, Kentucky, three sisters; Angie and husband Jim Daugherty, Kenna and  husband Gary Sumner both of Strunk, Kentucky, Tina and husband David Haire of Sanford, Florida, three grandchildren and one on the way; Michael Rogers, Matthew Rogers, Kaylee Watson and Kennedy Watson, Special Friends; Hobert Ball,  Anna Phillips of Winfield, Tennessee, her Children; Nikeah Phillips of Whitley City, Kentucky, Austin Daugherty of Leesburg, Florida, Corporal Brian Phillips of Jacksonville, North Carolina, and her grandson Nehemiah  “ Nemo”.

Graveside services were held Monday, November 17, 2014 at 1:00 pm at the Lower Hickory Grove Cemetery.
He was born February 3, 1943 in Revelo, Kentucky to Donald and Reba (Holt) Whalen. Larry retired from Ford Motor Company as a Supervisor and a Machinist. He was a member of the Orie S. Ware Masonic Lodge #874.  He loved watching movies, listening to music, and enjoyed nature and dogs.
Preceding him in death are his parents and his wife, Donna Elaine (Hall) Whalen.
Survivors include his sons, Kenneth Whalen of Stearns, Kentucky, whom was his caregiver for the last 7 years, and Tim Whalen of Cincinnati, Ohio; daughter, Wendy Whalen of Apache Junction, Arizona; brother, Charles Whalen of Cincinnati, Ohio; sisters, Joan McCurry and Gail Tierney both of Cincinnati, Ohio; 2 grandchildren, Mandi and Joey.

Danny BryantDanny Leslie Bryant, age 56, of Pine Knot, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, November 20, 2014, in Indianapolis, Indiana.

He was born September 21, 1958, in Jellico, Tennessee, to the late Henry Douglas and Nellie Marie (Pryor) Bryant.  Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by two sisters; Donna Bryant and Betty Strunk.

Surviving family include a son Danny Bryant of Ohio, Donna Bryant and Becky Bryant of Ohio, Paige Bryant of Pine Knot, Kentucky, three brothers; Joe Bryant, Indianapolis, Indiana, James Strunk, Whitley City, Kentucky, Michael (and Angel) Bryant of Pine Knot, five sisters; Tina Bryant, Indianapolis, Tammy Mason, Florida, Treva Bryant, Indianapolis, Teresa (and Donnie) Turpin, Indianapolis and Tracy (and Matthew) Troxell, Indianapolis.  He also leaves behind 10 grandchildren.

Danny had worked with the U.S. Forest Service.  He loved camping, fishing, trapping, ginsenging, and gardening.

Funeral services were held Monday, November 24, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of McCreary County Funeral Home with Bro. Kenny Turpin officiating.  Burial was at the Barren Fork Cemetery.

gwinGwin Austin Chapman, age 70 years, passed away October 28, 2014, in Cincinnati, Ohio.

He was born November 12, 1943, in Greenwood, Kentucky, the son of the late Edgar Austin and Marie (Branscum) Chapman.

He retired from General Motors Corp. in Sharonville, Ohio with 42 years of service.  He was a member of the Fairfield West Baptist Church in Fairfield, Ohio.  He served his country in the U.S. Navy.

Preceding him in death were his parents and siblings; Lee Roy Chapman (and wife Wanda), Naomi Fay Fights (and husband Bill), James Gearl Chapman (and wife Maria) and Jim’s twin sister Janice M. Chapman.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Benita (Pellillo) Chapman, son Chad Austin (and wife Tisha) Chapman, grandson Nicholas Austin Chapman, brothers; Norman L. Chapman (and wife Gearldine), Allan R. Chapman (and wife Beverly), and sister; Pamela G. Howard (and husband Lee).  He had numerous nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.

Grave side services were held on November 1, 2014, in Greenwood, Kentucky.  A memorial service was held on Saturday, November 8, 2014, at the Living Water Baptist Church in West Chester, Ohio, officiated by the Pastor Gary Marshall and the music and songs was by David Polley and Julie Butler.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Paul Young Funeral Home in Mt. Healthy, Ohio and the McCreary County Funeral Home.

Thelma Lois Childers, age 71 of Strunk, passed away Monday.  Funeral services will be Friday at 8pm in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home.

Burial will be on Saturday at the Hill Cemetery in Strunk.

She was born October 2, 1946 in Scott County, Tennessee to Harvey Watson, Sr. and Burnettie (Smith) Watson. Cloteen was a member of the Old Beech Grove United Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening, ginseng hunting, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Preceding her in death are her parents; a son, Jeff Dolen; sisters, Nancy Susie Watson and Bertha Alma Watson; and a granddaughter, Veronica.

Funeral services were held Sunday, November 23, 2014, at 2:00 p.m., in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Rev. Daniel Ridener officiating. Interment was at the Mill Spring National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. on Monday November 24, 2014.

Mrs. Gallegos was born February 26, 1920, in Scott County, Tn., to the late Everett J. and Lina Bell (Ellis) Duncan. Also preceding her in death is her first husband Quincy Everett Hamlin, who is Quincy’s father, husband Raul S. Gallegos ,  six Brothers; Golvin, Earnest Bufford, Covie, Edgar, Roe and Cletus Duncan and a Sister Wilda Wright.

Surviving family include a Son George Quincy Hamlin of Pine Knot, Kentucky, two granddaughters Cynthia Quinn Cleary of Ferguson, Kentucky, and Laura Georgann Bastecki of Lexington, Kentucky. Five Great Grandchildren include Quinton Joseph Ferrell, Abigail Irene Owens, Brendon Wade Cleary, Laurea Jade Hylton, and Victor Blake Bastecki. Two brothers Lester and Dester Duncan.

Mrs. Gallegos was retired from Lockheed Aircraft and she enjoyed canning foods along with reading and sewing. Some of her greatest things to do in life was to garden and pick flowers out of her yard. She also enjoyed dancing with family and friends. Nana never met a stranger.

Hatfield, BeachemBeachem Hatfield, of Stearns, Kentucky, passed from this life on Monday, November 17, 2014, at the Huntsville Manor in Huntsville, Tennessee.  He had attained the age of 88 years, 8 months and 10 days.

He had been a coal miner, having worked for Pete Owens Mining Company and was a member of the East Stearns Church of God.  He assembled bicycles for Western Auto, a job that he really enjoyed.

Beachem was born in LaFollette, Tennessee, on March 7, 1926, to the late Commadora and Elmira (Smith) Hatfield.  Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Molly Jean (Baird) Hatfield, three sons; Tommy Lester Hatfield, Beachem Lester Hatfield and Steve Hatfield, a daughter Diane Hatfield, brothers and sisters; James Smith, Calvester Smith, Charlie Smith, Odie Smith, Irvine Hatfield, Jim Hatfield, Ceclia Brady, Edna Spaulding, Hazel Crabtree, Lyda Mae Palmer, and Iris Hatfield, and a granddaughter; Leslie Michelle Hatfield.

Surviving family include daughters Darlene Canada (and Gary) of Whitley City, Francis Sammons of Whitley City, Maggie Phillips (and Gary) of Oneida, Vicky Davis (and Colonel Ray) of Richmond, Tammy Branium (and companion Arlin Rollins) of Stearns, sons; Donnie Ray “Chub” Hatfield (and Pamela) of Whitley City, Archie Hatfield (and Jenny) of Stearns, Jesse Hatfield (and Sherry) of Stearns, and Leon Hatfield of Whitley City.  There is one surviving brother; Richard Hatfield (and Winnie) of Pine Knot.  He has 24 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

Ledbetter picLebert Ledbetter, age 66, passed away Wednesday, November 19, 2014, at his home in Robbins, Tennessee.

He was a carpenter by trade and could make anything.  He had a workshop where he made furniture and he liked to build dune buggies.  He loved his garden and being outdoors, but he especially loved his garden.

Lebert was born in Jellico, Tennessee on December 31, 1947, to the late Luther and Gertie (Frady) Ledbetter.  Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister Grace Watters and her husband Lawrence.

Surviving family include a daughter Judy Free of Oneida, Tennessee, two grandchildren; Reagan and Weiland Free, four brothers and sisters; Evelyn (and Don) Koon of Whitley City, Tommy Ledbetter of Stearns, Joanne (and James) Miller of Hamilton, Ohio, and Mack (and Juanita) Ledbetter of Raeford, North Carolina.  He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews and friends who will never forget him.

He was born September 28, 1961 in Parkers Lake, Kentucky to Edwin Lincoln Price and Ruby (Gregory) Price. David was a member of the Pleasant Knob Baptist Church. He enjoyed woodwork, four-wheeling, and spending time with his family.

Preceding him in death are his parents; brothers, Clarence and Gary Price; and sisters, Linda Sue Foster and Teresa Cassada.

Survivors include his wife, Martha (Hohman) Price, whom he married May 28, 1983; a son, Joshua Price of Parkers Lake, Kentucky; brothers, Austin Price and wife, Darlene, of Parkers Lake, Kentucky and Bennie Price and wife, Phyllis, of West Chester, Ohio; several niece and nephews; and several great nieces and great nephews.

Ruby is survived by her devoted husband, Ronald Rose of Poor Bottom Road; two daughters; Janice (and Steve) Walker of Whitley City, KY and Mary (and Ronald) Easterling of Lexington, Kentucky; one son; Ronald (and Henryetta) Walker of Whitley City, KY; five grandchildren; Brittany (and Eric) Thacker, Brian (and Heaven) Thacker, Matthew (and Dedra) Thacker, Courtney Walker, and Baileigh Walker; two great-grandchildren; Brileigh Thacker and Zaden Kinder; three sisters; Juanita Billiter of Frenchburg, KY, Diane King of Winfield, TN and Thelma Walker of Whitley City, KY; two brothers; Wilburn Walker (and Barb) of Winfield, TN and Henry Walker (and Kathy) of Mt. Sterling, KY.

She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Evan TindleEvan Ray Tindle passed away on Saturday November 22, 2014 at the Hospice of Lake Cumberland Jean Waddle Care Center in Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

Evan was born April 24, 1930 to the late Lloyd David & Ruthie Ellen Anderson Tindle in Stonewall, MS. He was a Christian and was a member of First Baptist Church of Somerset. Evan was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the U. S. Army. He worked as President and General Manager of the Kentucky & Tennessee Railway and the Big South Fork Scenic Railway. He also was an owner- partner of Stearns Golf Course. Evan was an avid golfer and fisherman who enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He was dedicated to lovingly and tenderly caring for his true love, Bonnie.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Bonnie Faye Irby Tindle. He was also preceded in death by his four brothers Luther, Archie, Cleo and Clinton and his two sisters Etta and Audi.

Evan is survived by two children, Kathy (& Ronnie) Turner and Dennis (& Jennifer) Tindle; and 3 grandchildren, Emily Turner, Devan Tindle & Grant Tindle and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services were held at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 25, 2014 in the Chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home with Bro. David Pendley officiating.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at 2:00 pm at the Hilltop Baptist Church with Bro. David Troxell officiating.  Burial followed in the Rock Springs Cemetery.

He was born June 23, 1993 in Somerset, Kentucky to Wayne and Cynthia (Jones) Troxell. Lucas was a member of the Hilltop Baptist Church and worked as a machinist for Standard Lock-nut Industries. He enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, and riding thru the mountains. Lucas was a Wayne County High School Star Wrestler, having travelled to various states competing in wrestling matches representing his school, and winning numerous awards and trophies. He was widely known throughout high school wrestling circles, but becoming a father and husband was his passion.

Preceding him in death is a grandmother, Bonnie Troxell; a grandfather, Jerry Jones; and great-grandparents, Clyde and Juanita Troxell, and Samuel and Nancy Phillips.

Survivors include his parents, Wayne and Cynthia Troxell; wife, Shawnna Troxell; son Benson Troxell; grandmother, Hazel Jones; great grandparents, Brock and Patsy Jones, all of Stearns, Kentucky; brothers, Matt Troxell of Stearns, Kentucky and Zack Troxell and fiance, April Dalton of Monticello, Kentucky; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Yvonne was a Factory Worker; a huge UK fan, she loved animals including her cats; she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and taking pictures.

Along with her parents she is also preceded in death by her husband; Harold Dean Bryant, daughter; Kimberly Sue Mattox, brother; Kenneth Creekmore,

She was a long time member of Buford Grove Baptist Church, Hillard, Florida, prior to moving to Florida, she was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Somerset, KY. She was born August 29, 1928 in Somerset, KY to the late Mont Owens and Stella Shiplett Owens. “Tootie” was a Past Worthy Matron of the Order Of Eastern Stars, Somerset Chapter. She put several years of service in for the local telephone company, but most remember her as owner and manger of Sugar Hill Grocery.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Clifford Sewell.

She is survived by two children, Lamonta (Donovan) Webb of Hilliard, Florida, and Monty (Kathern) Sewell of Jacksboro, TN. Also surviving are five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and several step-grandchildren.

Visitation will be on Thursday, October 2, 2014 from 6:00-9:00 PM at the Chapel of Somerset Undertaking Co and Crematory. A Celebration of Life honoring Laford Sewell will be held Friday, October 3 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Somerset Undertaking with Rev. Lonnie Sewell officiating; Interment will follow in Barnesboro Cemetery beside her husband and other family members.

Ronald was a machinist at Staley’s in Sidney, Ohio, he was of the Baptist faith and loved talking on his CB his handle was “The Joker”, he was a musician (Gospel and Bluegrass), auto racing, driving and building cars, 4-wheeling, motorcycling, spending time with his family and friends and loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Robert “Boyd” Barnett, 61, of Stanford, KY passed away Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at home. Born September 7, 1953 in Williamsburg, KY to the late Ovie Sutton and Leanne Kidd Barnett, he worked as a farmer and a heavy equipment operator for most of his life.

Survivors include one son: Jason Barnett (Kelly) of Eubank, KY, one daughter: Jennifer DeBoard of Lancaster, KY, one brother: Chester Barnett of Moreland, KY, three grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters: Becky Barnett and Dorothy Strunk, as well as three siblings who passed away at a very early age.

Funeral service were held at the funeral home Friday, October 3, 2014 at 11am with Brother Wendell Douglas officiating. Graveside service and burial followed at Young Creek Church Cemetery.

Clarence was born April 1, 1930, in Pine Knot, to the late William Clarence and Lydia (Adkins) Moore.  Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife Julia (Stephens) Moore, his son and daughter-in-law Larry and Brenda Moore, his brothers; Donald, Howard, and Floyd Moore, and three sisters; Viola Bolton, Laura Belle Creekmore, and Mary Moore Creekmore and a step-son Joseph David Webb

Surviving family include his wife Christine (Dople) Moore of Pine Knot, Daughters Donna (and Farrell) Turner of Stearns, Bridget (and Steve) New of Whitley City, step-children; Shirley (and Wendell) Leach, Wanda (and Cecil) Roberts, Ronnie Webb, Phyllis (and Jonathan) King, Edward (and Joyce) Webb, Alene (and Robert) Baird, Gary (and Suzette) Webb, Carolyn (and Darrell) Willis and Betty (and Bruce) Ashton.

Surviving sisters are Ruby King of Strunk and Goldie Sue Davis of Williamsburg.  Together, Clarence and Christine had 30 grandchildren including Heather Cordell, Keshia (and James) Kidd, Tonya (and Henry) Hackler and Rebecca Dawn Synder, and 20 great-great grandchildren.

Clarence had been a carpenter for Ray Hinkle Construction.  He also worked on lawn mowers and small equipment. He enjoyed singing and playing music, especially Bluegrass music. He liked to squirrel and coon hunt.  He enjoyed good preaching and was a member of the East Pine Knot Tabernacle Church of God.

Funeral services were held at 2pm Monday, October 6, 2014, in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Rev. Billy Mitchell and Bro. Harold Baird officiating.  Burial was at the Upper Cal Hill Cemetery in Pine Knot.

Palace picPalace O’Coy Anderson, age 68, of Strunk, Kentucky passed away Tuesday, October 7, 2014, in Pine Knot, Kentucky.

Palace was a lead supervisor for the United States National Park Service, a veteran of the United States Navy, a member of the Mt. Pleasant United Baptist Church, a 32nd Degree Mason with the Orie W. Ware Lodge 874, and a member of the McCreary County Chamber of Commerce.

Born in Oneida, Tennessee on August 14, 1946, he was the son of Samuel Epps and Mittie (Wilson) Anderson.  He is preceded in death by his father and a brother-in-law Ronald Duncan.  His son, Samuel Lee Anderson is also deceased.

Surviving family include his mother, Mittie Anderson of Oneida, a daughter, Penny Phillips (and Tim) of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, his girlfriend of 21 years; Donna Atwood, two sisters; Temple Duncan of Strunk, Kentucky, and Shirley Thompson (and Roy) of Georgetown, Kentucky, six grandchildren; Chasery Sexton, Ryan Palace Anderson, Seth Hertis Phillips, Andrew Chase Phillips, and Jacob Nash Phillips.  His great grandchildren are Cheserae and Jacelynn Sexton.

He is also survived by Donna’s children; Amy Perry and Dawn Hammock and grandchildren; Xavier Perry, Kaley Perry, Drew Bell, Terria Bell and Garek Hammock.

Funeral services were held Saturday, October 11, 2014, at 8:00 p.m. in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Rev. Norman Burke and Rev. Don Hughett officiating.   An Eastern Star service and a Masonic service were also held.  Burial was at the Anderson Cemetery in Strunk, Kentucky at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, October 12, 2014 with full military honors by the U.S. Navy.

Roger was a retired truck driver and a veteran of the United States Air Force.  His favorite pastime was hunting and fishing. His greatest love was his family and spending time with his grandchildren.

He was born May 11, 1941, in Revelo, Kentucky, to the late Jerome Lafayette and Nola (Ball) Anderson. Besides his parents, he is proceeded in death by two brothers; Dr. James Harrison Anderson and Jay Anderson, and a sister; Judy Anderson.

Surviving family include three sons; John Roger Anderson (and Anita) of Somerset, Kentucky, Darren Jay Anderson (and Monica) of Clinton, Tennessee, and James Wayne Anderson of Oneida, Tennessee.   He has one brother; Gary Anderson (and Glenna) of Pine Knot, and four sisters; Joyce Martin (and Hershel) of Cincinnati, Ohio, Janice Love (and Kyle) of Louisville, Kentucky, Helen Slaven of Ohio, and Debbie Vanhoose (and Larry) of Somerset.  He had four grandchildren; Harley Jacob Anderson, Joshua Ryan Anderson, Jason A. Anderson, and Darren Michael Anderson.

Sam was retired from the United States Navy as a highly decorated Aviation Ordinance Chief.  His last deployment was on the USS Theodore Roosevelt Aircraft Carrier.  He worked as a lead forest technician for the Daniel Boone National Forest.  He was a member of the Flat Rock Baptist Church, the National Wild Turkey Federation, the N.R.A., the VFW Post 5669, the Orie S. Ware Lodge #874 of the F & AM Masons, O.E.S. Laurel Heights Chapter 288 of the Eastern Star.

He was born August 29, 1967, in Memphis, Tennessee, to Palace O. Anderson and Patricia Jean (Braden) Norman.  He is preceded in death by his father.

Surviving family include his wife Danna (Henry) Anderson of Strunk, Kentucky, his children; Chasery Sexton (and Tracie) of Paint Rock, Tennessee, and Ryan Palace Anderson of Strunk, Kentucky, his grandchildren; Cheserae and Jacelynn Sexton, his mother; Patricia Jean (and Robert “Bob”) Norman, and a sister Penny Phillips (and Tim) of Mt. SophiaSophia Gladys Musgrove, age 93, of Pine Knot, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, October 8, 2014, at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset Ky.

Funeral Services were held Saturday, October 11, 2014, at 1:00 pm in the Chapel of the Pine Knot Funeral Home with Rev. Cyrus Byrd and Karen Musgrove officiating.  Burial was at the Musgrove Cemetery in Pine Knot.

Sophia was a member of South Pine Knot Baptist Church. She owned and managed Pine Knot Trailer Park.  She worked at Conatser’s Store in Williamsburg after WWII, and that’s when she and Eldred met and began dating.  She had been a Sunday school secretary clerk in 1966-1970, and has taught Sunday school and was a member and held every office in the Eastern Star.  Sophia was the most loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great great-grandmother. She also loved family outings. Sophia loved gardening, and sold produce; she had a green thumb for plants and was a great cook. She loved her family and friends, had a big heart and never met a stranger. She was a silent partner for everything her husband Eldred did in McCreary County. She helped get the Pine Knot Fire Dept. started and water in McCreary County.

Born August 21, 1921, in McCreary County, Kentucky, Sophia was the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary (Ray) Meadows. She is preceded in death by her father and mother Thomas and Mary Meadows, and her husband, Eldred Musgrove and three brothers; Leonard Meadows, Ralph Meadows, and Edward (Ed) Meadows, Estil Meadows, and also thee sisters; Opal Meadows, Audrey Morrow and Mae Meadows.

Surviving family includes her two sons; Richard (and Beverly) Musgrove, Edwin (and Karen) Musgrove and two daughters; Doris (and Costello) Wilson, and Mary Alice Musgrove all of Pine Knot. She has one living sister; Imogene Long of Columbus, Ohio.

Sophia has twelve grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and two unborn great grandchildren, and five great- great grandchildren. She has two great grandchildren preceding her in death.

Elizabeth enjoyed Church activities and spending time with her family. She had many hobbies and interests such as writing poetry, reading, watching old movies, crocheting, and needlepoint. Elizabeth also enjoyed watching football. She was a Cincinnati Bengals and Alabama fan.

Bonnie was born on September 5, 1932 in Stonewall, MS to the late William Loyd and Willie Mae Irby. She was a Christian and attended the First Baptist Church of Somerset. Bonnie worked as a hairdresser and a homemaker. She enjoyed boating on the Magnolia Lady, playing and watching golf, sewing, embroidery, crocheting, knitting, painting, cooking and sharing her gracious southern hospitality with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her only sister, Margaret (and Wesley) Chancelor and her only brother, Oscar (and Virginia) Irby.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Evan Ray Tindle; two children, Kathy (and Ronnie) Turner, and Dennis (and Jennifer) Tindle; three grandchildren, Emily Turner, Devan Tindle and Grant Tindle and several nieces, nephews and friends.

He was born January 8, 1939 in McCreary County, Kentucky to Howard Worley and Myrtle (Barnett) Worley. Bobby was a Deacon of the Marshes Siding Church of God. He was a retired engineer for the Big South Fork Scenic Railroad and had previously owned Lindy’s Music and Trading Post. Bobby was a member of the Honorable order of Kentucky Colonels and the Orie S. Ware Lodge for over 50 years. He enjoyed fishing, camping, travelling, and playing music.

Preceding him in death is his father.

Derek enjoyed doing outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, hiking, and exploring. He also enjoyed collecting  knifes. We trust that our lost is his eternal gain.

Mrs. Hazel Attended Davis Hill Church of God; she loved to garden, cook for her family; she enjoyed collecting what-knots, and spending time with her family and friends.

Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her husband; Artie Stephens whom passed away December 24, 2000, three sons; Sherman, William “Doc”,  and Ernest Mitchell Stephens, two brothers; James Daniel Litton, and Bobby Litton, three sisters; Linda Beagle, Goldie Norman, and Mary Ruth McGrath.

He enjoyed attending services and witnessing to others about the Lord. Bro. Dick enjoyed reading about historical events such as the Civil War. He also enjoyed genealogy and hunting.

Preceding him in death are his parents; his wife, Frances (Crabtree) Stephens; and a sister, June Mullins.

Lela was a member of Lower Hickory Grove church. She was of the Native America culture and proud to be. She enjoyed talking on the CB her handle name was Cherokee Lady.  Lela loved the water an also enjoyed fishing. One of her hobbies she really enjoyed doing was drawing.

Born May 6, 1935 in Stearns, Kentucky, Lela was the daughter of the late Elijah and Lucy (Richardson Gegner) Ross. She is preceded in death by her father and mother Elijah and Lucy (Richardson Gegner) Ross and a infant son Timothy Elwon Stephens, and a infant daughter Brenda Lee, also preceding her in death is a brother; Elisha Jr. Ross.

Surviving family includes her two sons; Joe and (Paula) Stevens, of Robbing Tn. Larry (Danny) and (Aliza) Stevens, of Harrogate Tn. And two daughters; Leota( Stevens) Wilson of Burnside, Ky. Catherine Stevens of Strunk, Ky. and a brother Chris Ross of Stearns, Ky.

jamie branscumJames “Jamie” Terrill Branscum of Whitley City, Kentucky, departed this life on October 22, 2014 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital being 36 years, 1 month and 23 days old.  He was born in Somerset, Kentucky on August 29, 1978, the son of Carol (Keith) Branscum.

Jamie was a correctional officer and kitchen supervisor at the United States Federal Penitentiary in McCreary County, Kentucky.  He was a member of Resurrection Life Christian Center where he was heavily involved in all aspects of his church, a co-sponsor and leader for Celebrate Recovery, and a head mentor and volunteer at the Lord’s Gym Sports Outreach Center.  He was an avid UK basketball and football fan and loved all types of music such as Christian and country.  He was also proud of his role in the job he held at the prison.  He was a gentle giant in the lives of so many people.  Jamie was a selfless and giving person who was loved by all.

Jamie is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Roy Keith and Leona ‘Granny Keith;’ Bill Branscum, cousins, Kevin Keith and April Keith; an uncle, BJ Keith.

He is survived by his loving mother, Carol Branscum of Whitley City, Kentucky and many special cousins, aunts, uncles, and numerous other friends and relatives to whom he was very close.

Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by four brothers; Noah Stephens Jr.,Clyde Alford Stephens, Dennis Stephens, and Claude Stephens and five sisters; Beulah Wright, Blanche Stephens, Rose Murphy, Mary Egnor and Betty Joe Stephens

She was born November 22, 1922 in Keno, Kentucky on the Cassada family farm to Lewis R. Cassada and Ollie Florence (Jones) Cassada. Beulah was the oldest and only girl of 6 children. She was a member of the Marshes Siding Church of God. Beulah was baptized in 1944 at the Stearns First Baptist Church. Beulah was a Charter Member of the Wilson Ave. Baptist Church in Sidney, Ohio and was also a Charter Member of the original Marshes Siding Baptist Church. She was a member of the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels as well. Beulah enjoyed ceramics, family get togethers, embroidering, and exploring woods.  She was a Godly woman with a strong faith.

Preceding her in death are her parents; her husband, Rev. Oscar Worley; a step-father, Robert Hawkins; sons, Dorman and Estill Worley; a daughter Kathy Worley; brothers, Hubert, Clarence, Jim, Tommy, and Ernie Cassada; and a grandson, Timmy Daugherty.

Survivors include her sons, Boyce Worley and wife, Judy, of Monticello, Kentucky, and David Worley of Marshes Siding, Kentucky; daughters, Betty Daugherty and husband, Hurstle, of Marshes Siding, Kentucky, and Wanda Smith and husband, Tom, also of Marshes Siding, Kentucky; sister-in-laws, Irene Cassada of Cincinnati, Ohio, Janet Cassada, of Sidney, Ohio, and Myrtle Worley of Somerset, Kentucky; a daughter-in-law, Jan Worley of Stearns, Kentucky; 5 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and a good friend, Sally Baird.

She was married to the late James Edmond Jones. She retired from the US Government where she worked on the Manhattan project, building and developing the atomic bomb. Along with her parents she is also preceded in death by her husband; two brothers; Laccie Blevins and Amon Blevins. Murphy KennethKenneth Charles Murphy, age 67, of Stearns, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, August 31, 2014 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. Carl “Cubby” Clark officiating.    Burial was at the Jones Cemetery in Strunk, Kentucky. Charles had been a coal miner for the Stearns Coal Company and was a member of the Lower Wolf Creek Baptist Church.   He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. Born March 3, 1947, in McCreary County, Kentucky, he was the son of Luster and Lora Mae (Miller) Murphy.  He is preceded in death by his father, Luster Murphy, and two brothers; Joseph Murphy and James Murphy.  Surviving family include his mother Lora Mae (Miller) Murphy, Pine Knot, a daughter; Kimberly Murphy (and Leslie Young) of Parkers Lake, two sons; Anthony (and Amanda) Murphy of Parkers Lake and Randall (and Melissa) Murphy of Stearns, and Brenda Murphy, the mother of his children as well as his caregiver. Burial services were held privately at the Murton Wilson Family Cemetery. He was born October 19, 1930 in Strunk, Kentucky to Murry Wilson and Mertie (Spradlin) Wilson. Murton was of the United Baptist faith.  He was one of the first employees of the Pine Knot Job Corps when it opened and had worked there as a cook for over twenty five years when he retired.   He enjoyed farming and raising big gardens and cattle. Murton also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family. Preceding him in death are his parents; brothers, Mitchell, Mervin, and Marshall Wilson; and a sister, Cordelia Foster. Survivors include his wife, Georgie (Creekmore) Wilson, whom he married May 21, 1955; sons, Murton L. Wilson and wife, Phyllis, and Burton L. James was born in McCreary County, Kentucky, on September 21, 1936, to the late Matt and Hazel (Spradlin) Moore.  Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by two step-sons; Anthony and Jason Crabtree, two brothers; George Moore, Oda Mike Moore, and three sisters-in-law; Lorene Moore, Eva Moore and Shirley Moore and a brother-in-law, Kenneth Duncan.

Surviving family include his wife Elizabeth (Crabtree) Moore whom he married April 18, 1998, of Somerset, two sons; James Eric (and Kimberli) Moore of Somerset and Timothy Moore of Pine Knot, two step-sons; Jody Crabtree and Wade (and Becky) Crabtree, both of Winfield, brothers; Lendle Moore and Arnold Moore both of Pine Knot and Ronald (and Anna) Moore of Lake City, Tennessee, and a sister; Martha (Moore) Duncan of Muncie, Indiana.  He has two grandchildren; Ryan and Chloe and three step grandchildren; Lane, Conner and Beronica.

James was a boilermaker by trade and was a member of the Union 1 in Chicago, Illinois, He served his country in the US Army, he enjoyed traveling and  was an avid UK basketball fan.

He was a carpenter and of the Baptist faith.

He was born April 20, 1936 in Paint Cliff, Kentucky to Thomas Phillips and Opal Marie (King) Phillips Prichard. Don was a member of the Lower Hickory Grove United Baptist Church. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Vietnam Era. Don was also a member of the Kinnie-Slaven Post of the American Legion Post 115. He worked as a Maintenance Supervisor for Tecumseh.  After retirement, Don sold real estate and worked in the  heating and air conditioning business. He enjoyed being outdoors, fishing and camping with his friends.  Don also enjoyed attending car shows and spending time with his family.

Preceding him in death is his mother, his father who died when Don was an infant; his step-father, Carey Prichard, the only father Don ever knew; a brother, Gary Prichard, two sisters, Joyce Phillips and Betty Sue Dykes; and a son-in-law, Michael Todd Kidd.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley (Burke) Phillips whom he married, May 11, 1956; daughters, Donna Madden and her companion, Michael, of Oneida, Tennessee; and Traci Kidd of Whitley City, Kentucky; brothers, Wayne Prichard and his wife, Norma, of Pine Knot, Kentucky, Ronnie Prichard and his wife, Kathy, of Somerset, Kentucky; and Bob Prichard and his wife, Chris, of Baltimore, Maryland; grandchildren, Lance, Gavin, and Nicholas Kidd, and Randi Creekmore; and great-grandchildren, Malachi Creekmore, Rhiannon Creekmore, and Stormie Goodin.

He was a Truck Driver for DRW Express. Wayne was of the Baptist faith and a member of Low Gap Baptist Church. He enjoyed truck driving and motorcycling on his Indian Motorcycle; He enjoyed good conversation and spending time with his family and friends, He was a very loving and giving person. Wayne was an Army Veteran, having obtained an honorable discharge during the Korean conflict.

Born October 21, 1933 in Revelo, Kentucky, Ethelene   was the daughter of the late Maynard and Delia (Crabtree) Wilson.  She is preceded in death by her father and mother Maynard and Delia Wilson and her daughter Wanda Faye Ross, and three brothers; Edward Wilson, Charles Wilson, Solomon Wilson, and also a sister; Inus Wilson.

Surviving family includes her three sons; Ronald Ross of Monticello, Randy Ross and Shirley of Danville, Indiana, Tilden Ross of Stearns, Kentucky. and a brother James Wilson of Indianapolis, Indiana. and a sister Beulah Wilson of Beach Grove, Indiana.

Ethelene has nine grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.

Lowell was born December 7, 1945 in McCreary County, Kentucky, to Arville and Edna (Stephens) Wright. He is preceded in death by his father, Arville Wright and four infant brothers.

Surviving family include his mother Edna Wright of Pine Knot, his fiancé Wilma Wright of Pine Knot, a son Micheal (and Lynn) Wright, of Pine Knot, two daughters; Aretha Wright (and Steven Miller) of Somerset and Sandra (and Hank) Kidd, Pine Knot, a sister Sheila (and Brad) Hill, of Pine Knot, and two brothers; Nathan (and Della) Wright, Pine Knot and George (and Moony) Wright of Hazard, Kentucky. There are nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Lowell had been a coal miner for Blue Diamond Coal Company; he had been a truck driver and had worked for Kroger Frozen Meats. He had also worked at American Roller Company in Ohio. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Vietnam War and was a member of the Kinne Slaven Post 115 of the American Legion. He was a member of Marsh Creek Baptist Church and his passion was going to church when he was able. Before his illness, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.

She was born February 10, 1039, to Virgil Kidd and Mildred (Stephens) Feria.  She is preceded in death by her father, Virgil Kidd, her mother and step-father; Mildred and Alex Feria, two brothers; Harold Dean Kidd and James Paul Kidd, and a sister; Barbara Pastor.

Surviving family include a son Donald Wayne (and Kay) Ball of Corbin, Kentucky, and a daughter; Brenda Ball of Milford, Michigan, a sister; Alice Faye Croft of  St. George,

Glenna had been a supervisor at Outdoor Venture Corporation in Stearns.  She started work from the company’s inception in 1972 until her retirement some twenty one years later.  She belonged to the McCreary County Homemakers Club in earlier years.  She was a member of the Sulphur Springs United Baptist Church where she was church secretary/ treasurer and song leader.  She was a devoted mother who loved cooking and caring for her family.  She enjoyed knitting and crocheting special keepsakes for her family.

Glenna was born December 19, 1931, in Pine Knot, Kentucky, to the late John K. and Otie (Ball) Martin.  Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years whom she married December 23, 1952, Elves Dean Kidd, a sister; Gladys Lay and an infant brother; Ralph Martin.

Surviving family include her children: Deborah Elaine Kidd, Richmond, Kentucky, Patricia Ann (and Schyler) Jones, Pine Knot, and Earl Dean (and Amanda) Kidd, Pine Knot, Grandchildren; Chris Stephens, Eric Stephens, Mark Jones, Aaron Jones, Brandi Kidd, April Stephens, Jesse Dean Kidd, Skyler New and Michael Helton.  Great grandchildren are Eli, Emry and Holden Jones, Jerika and Allyson Tucker and Caydon Stephens.  She has a sister Carol Kidd who resides in Pine Knot as well as other family, friends and in-laws and will be greatly missed by all.

G.P. Gilson Jones and Rachel Elizabeth Worley Jones on April 19, 1920 at Ritner Kentucky.

Lora’s final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that she had touched in some large or small way throughout her long blessed life; she went to sleep here and awoke in the presents of Jesus.

Lora was a member of Flat Rock Missionary Baptist Church, where she was loved by all. She loved her church and all who attended church with her. Many of her Sunday school sisters in the lord she would often mention. Her last wish was made known shortly before her going to sleep to her pastor, Danny Staley, that she wanted him on her funeral; she also loved Roger Bryant who will also be conducting her funeral, Lora would say “Let’s Smile and Have Church”. Lora loved to cook for her family and could make the best blackberry cobbler among her many specialties. Lora has passed into her eternal life that God promised to all who would believe on his only begotten son and will be sadly missed here by her family and many friends old and young alike.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, September 20, 2014 at 2:00 PM at the Flat Rock Missionary Baptist Church; with burial to followrd in the Taylor Ridge Cemetery.

Bill Roberts 1William “Bill” Ellis Roberts age 72 years, 6 months, and 5 days, of Robbins, Tennessee, formerly of Stearns, Kentucky, passed away Monday, September 15, 2014 at the Select Specialty Hospital in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Funeral services were held Thursday, September 18, 2014 at 11:00 am at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home with Bro. Eddie King officiating. Burial followed in the Hickman Cemetery.

He was born March 10, 1942 in Worley Hill Top, Kentucky to Kenneth Theodore Roberts and Edna Mae (Waters) Roberts. Bill was a member of the First Hickory Grove Baptist Church. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the VFW. Bill was well known for his carpet cleaning skills.

Preceding him in death are his parents; his wife, Sandra (Ramsey) Roberts; a brother, Jimmy Roberts; and sisters, Ruth Ann Young and Mary Lou Jones.

Survivors include his sons, William E. “Scotty” Roberts, Jr. and wife, Tammy, of Pine Knot, Kentucky, and Michael Roberts and wife, Elizabeth, of Sunbright, Tennessee; daughters, Tami Layne and husband, Jeff, of Robbins, Tennessee, and Teri Roberts of Whitley City, Kentucky; a brother, Frank Roberts and wife, Linda, of Louisville, Kentucky; sisters, Jewel Stephens and husband, Vernon, of Williamsburg, Kentucky, and Wilma Jones, of Stearns, Kentucky; grandchildren, Tabitha, Shawn, Jonathan, Cody, Cole, Austin, and Wyatt; and great-grandchildren, Sophia and Layla.

Born October 18, 1951 in Oneida, TN to the late Robert and Sarah Bryant Koon, she was a former employee of Hub Frankel and Cowden’s Inc. She was a volunteer caregiver for Bluegrass Community Action and a volunteer for Feed The Hungry. She was also a member of Worldstown Church of God.

Survivors include her husband: Hubert Trammell Sr. of Stanford, KY, one son: Hubie Trammell of Moreland, KY, one daughter: Paula Anness of Hustonville, KY, two brothers: Ronnie Koon of Junction City, KY, and Tony Bryant (Anna) of Stanford, KY, two sisters: Ann Strunk of Strunk, KY, and Wilma Miller (Charlie) of Pine Knott, KY, three grandchildren: Brittany Eades (David) of Fort Myers, FL, Anthony Anness, and Rachel Anness both of Hustonville, KY, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one brother: J.C. Koon.

william westWilliam Charles West, of Pine Knot, Kentucky departed this life Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital, In Somerset Kentucky being 73 years, 9 months, 29 days old. He was born in Pine Knot, Kentucky on October 19, 1940 the son of the late Allen and Rachel (Hill) West.

Charles was a logger and self employed; he loved fishing and spending time with his animals. Some of Charles favorite music was country and gospel.

He is survived by his loving wife; Mildred West, whom he married June 14, 1971 in Pine Knot, Kentucky, one brother; Carl and Betty West of Pine Knot, Kentucky, one sister; Betty Lou Whallen of Strunk, Kentucky.

Funeral Services were conducted Saturday, September 20, 2014 at 11:00 am at the McCreary County Funeral Home with Bro. Israel Clark  officiating; Burial will followed in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Gail (Mendes) Constant of Pine Knot, whom he married December 15, 1973.  Also surviving are his parents; Jay and Billy Constant of Pine Knot, sons; David Jay (and Shawna) Constant of Sacramento, California, and Curtis Joshua (and Traci) Constant of Vacaville, California.  He and Gail were blessed with four grandchildren; Molly, Sadie, Katelynn and Jordyn.  He has two surviving sisters; Pamela (and Gary) Stephens and Jennifer (and Rick) Thomas both of Pine Knot. David had worked for Helmer and Sons, Inc. in California, doing underground utility construction work.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was into hot rods.  In accordance with the family’s wishes, he was cremated. Pine Knot Funeral Home assisted the family.

She enjoyed going to church and worshiping the Lord, sewing, canning and taking care of many foster children throughout the years. She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Mae Watson. Her husband, Oliver Kidd. One son, Earl Kidd and three brothers, Sonny Watson, Bravel Watson and Vincent Watson. She is survived by a daughter, Brenda Jo Phillips of Pensacola, Fla. and a son, John Kidd of Pine Knot, Ky. Her foster children, Jewell Danforth of Lexington, Ky. and Virgie Kelsie of Monticello, Ky. One sister, Lexie Wright of Revelo, Ky. and a granddaughter, Heather Phillips of Pensacola, Fla. A Memorial Service will be announced at a later date. Funeral services were held Sunday, August 17, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Rev. Darren Kidd and Ronnie Wilson officiating.  Burial was at the Silerville Cemetery. Donna was the daughter of Richard “Dick” and Pauline “Toots” (Miller) Wilson.  She was born in Oneida, Tennessee, on August 26, 1948.  She is preceded in death by her father Richard Wilson.  Her surviving family include her mother Pauline “Toots” Wilson of Strunk, Kentucky, her daughter Stephanie Norfleet (and husband Larry) of Kokomo, Indiana, grandchildren; Tristen, Sophie and Alyssa Norfleet of Kokomo, brothers; Ronnie Dean Wilson (and wife Linda) of Strunk and Trennis Wilson of Strunk, nieces and nephews; Veronica Kates, Paula “P.J.” Bruce, Richard Wilson, Zach Wilson and Tonya Bass as well as other family members and special friends. Donna was a retired deputy circuit court clerk working under Robert Hatfield and Othel King. She was a good cook and enjoyed cooking.  She loved Bluegrass Music and one of her special treats was going to the Bill Monroe Bluegrass Bean Blossom Festival in Morgantown, Indiana.  But more than anything in her life, she enjoyed her grandchildren. Bennett photoRicky Edward Bennett, age 52, of Parkers Lake, Kentucky, passed from this life on Tuesday, August 19, 2014, at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, Kentucky.

Funeral services were held Friday, August 22, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Rev. Harold Rollins officiating.  Burial was at the Marlar Cemetery in Parkers Lake.

Ricky was born in Shelby County, Ohio, on January 21, 1962, to the late Ozas and Dora Dean (Rollins) Bennett.  Besides his father, he is preceded in death by his wife Angela (Gibson) Bennett, and a daughter Angel Vanover.

Surviving family include his mother Dora Dean (Rollins) Bennett, daughters; Debra Bennett (and fiancé Jason), Dora Bennett, Amanda Vanover, step-daughters; Stacey Jones (husband Stephen) and Christina Roberts, all of Parkers Lake, Kentucky; step-sons; Mark Trammell (wife Jessica) and Ruben Trammell, both of Parkers Lake; brothers; Carley Bennett (wife Odie) of Rockhold, Kentucky, Ronnie Bennett, Ronald Bennett (wife Reda), Russell Bennett, Roger Bennett (wife Wilma) all of Parkers Lake, and a sister Patricia Ross (husband Thomas) of Pine Knot.  He had 16 grandchildren.

Ricky had worked as a night watchman and custodian at the McCreary County Courthouse.  He enjoyed four-wheeling, boating, collecting antiques and sight-seeing in the great outdoors.

She was born in Pine Knot, Kentucky, on February 13, 1942 the daughter of the late John and Laura (Whallen) West.  She was a homemaker and a member of the Pentecostal Church.

Her parents; son: Stewart Duncan, and Brother; George West precede her in death.

Funeral services were held Saturday, August 23, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at the Pleasant Knob Baptist Church in Parkers Lake with Bro. Daniel Ridener officiating.  Special music was by Chrissy Swain and Marilyn Strunk.  Burial was at the Pleasant Knob Cemetery.

Jerry was born July 31, 1965, in Somerset, Kentucky, to the late Delmer and Annie Ruth (Hicks) Ridner.  Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers; Earnest and Jeffrey Ridner, and two sisters; Alma Higginbotham, and Lois Vanover.

Surviving family include a brother; Ranzy (and Phyllis) Ridner of Sawyer, Kentucky, and six sisters; Dorie Goodin, Jude (and George) Rose, Bonnie Swain, Brenda Perry, Patricia (and Manuel) Ridner and Kathy Ridner, all of Parkers Lake and Eleanora Mitchell of Waynesburg, Kentucky.  There are many nieces and nephews, other family and friends left to mourn his passing.

She was born in McCreary County, Kentucky on April 5, 1947 the daughter of the late Hulen and Ida (Jones) Clark.  She Married Bradley Wheaton Slaven on March 11, 1967. She was a seamstress at the Shirt Factory and a member of the Cherokee United Baptist Church.

Her parents; Brothers; Delbert Clark, Randell Clark, Raymond Clark, Elisha and Joyce Clark, Sisters; Flonnie  and Noel Worley, Flora Gaw, Sister in law; Betty Clark, Brother in law; MC Contrel precede her in death.

Funeral services were Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at 8:00 p.m. in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Rev. William Kilby officiating.  Burial was at the East Pine Knot Memorial Gardens at 11a.m. on Thursday.

Evelyn was born December 1, 1931, in McCreary County, Kentucky, to the late John Prince and Bertha (Angel) Stephens.  Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by two sisters; Geneva Lanter and Goldie Denham, and two brothers; Edgar Stephens and Artie Stephens.

Surviving family include three sons; Coy Stephens, Whitley City, John Paul (and Rose) Stephens, Pine Knot, and Larry Ray (and Diane) Stephens, Pine Knot, as well her ex-husband and father of her children, Elmer Stephens, also of Pine Knot.  She has five grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren. She also had a special nephew; Harold Lanter.

Evelyn had worked for McCreary Manufacturing as a sewing machine operator, she enjoyed quilting and crocheting as well and cooking and canning.

He was born in McCreary County, Kentucky on March 25, 1932 the son of the late Alvin Noah and Effie Ethel (Bryant) Vanover. He was a construction worker.

His parents; his wife; Opal (Clark) Vanover, Daughter; Helen Perry, Brothers; Herman Vanover, Alvin Jr. Vanover, Leo Vanover, Grandchild; Elizabeth Perry precede him in death.

Murton WilsonMurton H. Wilson age 83 years, 9 months, and 30 days of Pine Knot, Kentucky, passed away Monday, August 18, 2014 at his home. Funeral services were held Thursday, August 21, 2014 at 8:00 pm at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home with Bro. Hap Strunk and Bro. Willis Troxell officiating. Burial services were held privately at the Murton Wilson Family Cemetery.

He was born October 19, 1930 in Strunk, Kentucky to Murry Wilson and Mertie (Spradlin) Wilson. Murton was of the Christian faith.  He was one of the first employees of the Pine Knot Job Corps when it opened and had worked there as a cook for over twenty five years when he retired.   He enjoyed farming and raising big gardens and cattle. Murton also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family.

Preceding him in death are his parents; brothers, Mitchell, Mervin, and Marshall Wilson; and a sister, Cordelia Foster.

Survivors include his wife, Georgie (Creekmore) Wilson, whom he married May 21, 1955; sons, Murton L. Wilson and wife, Phyllis, and Burton L. Wilson and wife, Tammy, all of Pine Knot, Kentucky; a brother, Merrell Wilson and wife, Beverly, of Stearns, Kentucky; sisters, Milicia Kidd and husband, Carl, of Pine Knot, Kentucky, Mittie Broach of Revelo, Kentucky, and Macie Stephens, of Indiana; grandchildren, Sharon Standifer and husband, Waylon, Tim Wilson and wife, Pepper, and McKinsey Wilson; and great-grandchildren, Jamie and Jacob Wilson.
