Richard HatfieldRichard Lonnie Hatfield age 91 years, 9 months, and 6 days of Pine Knot, Kentucky passed away Sunday, March 20, 2016 at his home.

Funeral services were held Thursday, March 24, 2016 at 2:00 pm at the Roberts Chapel Church with Bro. Nathan Perry and Bro. Randall Whitehead officiating. Burial followed in the Roberts Chapel Cemetery.

He was born June 14, 1924 in Scott County, Tennessee to Commadore Hatfield and Elmira (Smith) Hatfield. Richard was a member of the Roberts Chapel Church. He enjoyed attending church and fishing. In past time, Richard was a coal miner for the Alvin Angel Mines.

Preceding him in death are his parents; a son, Lonzo Hatfield; 3 infant children; 7 brothers; and 5 sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Winona (Perry) Hatfield, whom he married November 7, 1966; sons, Lonnie Hatfield, of Wiborg, Kentucky, Ronald Hatfield of Jellico, Tennessee, Randall Hatfield of Norwood, Ohio, and Scottie Hatfield of Pioneer, Tennessee; daughters, Betty Sue Gadd of Hamilton, Ohio, Wanda Jeffries of Seaman, Ohio, Sherry Hatfield, Norwood, Ohio, and Rhonda Miklos, of Pine Knot, Kentucky; 25 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Patricia I. Shumate age 50, the wife of Donald Ray Shumate of Idaho Street, Corbin, Kentucky passed Saturday afternoon at the Baptist Health Hospital in Corbin, Kentucky.

She was the mother of Edward Carson Shumate of Corbin, Kentucky. She was the sister of Wayne Campbell of Sawyer, Kentucky and Clinton Campbell of Pine Knot, Kentucky.

Funeral services for Mrs. Patricia I. Shumate were conducted on Thursday afternoon in the Corbin Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Roger Miller and Bro. Glen R. Shumate officiating.

Burial followed in the Smith Cemetery in the Faber Community of Whitley County.

Ruth Ann was retired from the Kingsford Charcoal Plant in Burnside, Kentucky, as a shipping clerk.  She loved being outdoors, fishing and spending time with her grandchildren.

She was born February 3, 1953, in Honeybee, Kentucky, to the late Edna (Walker) Perry.  Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by a son Steven Vanover, brothers, Ronald Perry and Ray Perry, a sister, Oneeda Honeycutt New and two grandchildren: Jaymison Spradlin and Raelynn Mamieann Young.

Surviving family include her husband Jerry L. Wheeler whom she married June 28, 1997, a daughter Shelia King (husband Mathew) of Dalton, Georgia, sons: Nathan Flynn (wife Jeannie) of Whitley City Chris Perry (wife Joyce) of Parkers Lake, step-daughters Alexa Wilson (Nova), Deanne Wheeler and Roxanna Wheeler all of Springfield, Ohio, 19 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

Surviving brothers and sisters are Arthur Walker (Betty) of Gibsonburg, Ohio, Wayne Perry (Cathy) of Parkers Lake, Mike Perry (Helen) of Eubank, Kentucky and sister Wendell Lawson (George) of Tiffin, Ohio.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 26, 2016, at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of McCreary County Funeral Home with Bro. Gary Honycutt and Bro. Bill Patrick officiating.  She was laid to rest at the Pleasant Knob Cemetery.

Born in Wayne County, Kentucky, on August 27, 1958, he was the son of the late Cleo and Lois (Decker) Young.  Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother Randy Young.

Surviving family include three daughters: Maranda Young, Leanna Young and Brandi Allen, a son Thomas Young and eight grandchildren and many friends who will miss him.

Richard was a mechanic by trade and enjoyed hanging out with his friends.  He especially enjoyed the Coal Miner’s Jamboree and Stearns.

Funeral services were Monday, March 28, 2016.

Burial followed at Denny Cemetery in Wayne County, Kentucky.

Fay AshbrookNorma Fay Ashbrook age 76 of Lexington, Kentucky, formerly of McCreary County, passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2016 at the North Point Health Care Center of  Lexington.

Funeral services were held on Friday, March 18, 2016 at 11:00 am at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home with Bro. Eddie King officiating. Burial followed in the Silerville Cemetery.

She was born on June 10, 1939 in Ritner, Kentucky to George Elmer Abbott and Mertie Avaline (Jones) Abbott.  Fay worked hard all of her life.  In early years she held jobs at Anderson’s Dairy Bar and Stearns Shirt Factory.  During the height of her professional career, she was Vice President of Kmart on Sherwood Drive in Detroit Michigan.  She was also a realtor with Century 21. Fay was a professional seamstress and quilter, and an avid flower gardener. In retirement, she and her husband Henry managed the local Stearns Flea Market. Henry was the love of her life.

Fay is preceded in death by her parents; sons, John Blair and Ray Ashbrook; daughters, Penny Hinchey and Marcia Welter; a granddaughter, Yasmin Blair; brothers, Leon and Jerry Abbott; a special sister, Ina Jones; and a brother-in-law, Charles Simmons.

She is survived by her husband, Henry Ashbrook; her children, Karen and Joe Clancy, Susan and Brad Hill, Melissa and Steve Parr, Joseph and Diane Anderson, Tom Ashbrook, Bob Ashbrook, Brenda Hall, and Wayne Romer; brothers and sisters, Glenn and Shane Abbott, Cline Abbott, Reed and Thelma Abbott, Wanda and Jim Heth, Joanne Simmons, Janie and Gary Miller; grandchildren, Kylie Waters and Chris Lunsford, David and Liz Waters, Amy and Erick Stokes, Michael and Brittney Clancy, Emily Clancy, April and Michael Murphy, Bradley Hill, Coreen and Kenneth Sawdon, Casee  and Steven Sawdon, Alix and Adam Armstrong, Anthony and Karlyn Palmer, Tim Palmer, Melissa and Richard Senter, Ashley and Jeff Lyle, Thomas Joseph Anderson, Justin Anderson, Jakob Anderson and Sara Borowicz, Dr. Lauren Ashbrook, Lindsey Ashbrook, Jason Ashbrook, Daniel Ashbrook, Brent Ashbrook, Chad Ashbrook, Susan Molloy, Marcia Hall, Mark Welter, Michael Welter, Malena Welter, Pamela Wise, Charles Wise, Chris Lay, Patrick Lay, Denise Blair, Jeffrey Blair, Rebecca Blair, and John Blair III; and 30 + great-grandchildren.

Fay was known for her generosity, kindness, beauty, laughter, and love.  She will be missed by everyone who knew her.

Renfro Baird picMr. Renfro Baird, age 85, passed away Thursday, March 17, 2016, at his home in Pine Knot, Kentucky.

Mr. Baird was born on November 15, 1930, to the late Hiram and Betty (Anderson) Baird.  Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Shoopman, all his brothers and sisters: Arnold, George, Clifford, Millard, and Frank Baird, Myrtle Baird and Rosetta Baird and a great granddaughter, Miley King.

Surviving family includes his wife Maerene (Meadows) Baird whom he married November 3, 1952, two sons: Eddie (Brenda) Baird of Jellico Creek, Kentucky, and Benny (Jewell) Baird of Pine Knot, daughters: Beverly (Richard) Musgrove of Pine Knot, and Wilma (Gary) Hammons of Pine Knot, 12 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

In his younger years, Renfro worked at the Sinclair Service Station in Whitley City and the Texaco Station in Pine Knot as well as in the log woods.  He enjoyed his work and liked working in the yard and gardening.  He also enjoyed hunting and camping.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 19, 2016, at 8:00 p.m. in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Bro. Dennis Neal officiating.  Interment was on Sunday at 1100 a.m. at the Osbourne Creek Cemetery.

Screen shot 2016-03-23 at 9.56.55 AMSue Bryant departed from this life on Sunday, March 20, 2016 at her home in Stearns, Kentucky being 76 years 9 months and 9 days. She was born in Stearns, Kentucky on June 11, 1939 to the late Rufus Perkins and Lidia Black Perkins.

She was a member of the Taylor Ridge United Baptist Church. Sue loved to read and spend quality time with her children and grandchildren.  Sue is a Kentucky Colonel and was the former Magistrate for District Three.

Along with her parents she is preceded in death by an infant Sister: Ruth Faye Perkins.

She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Ken Bryant, daughters: Kathy  and husband Steve Litton, Lisa and husband Mike Soard of Stearns, Kentucky, Kenna and husband Frankie Young of Strunk, Kentucky and Karen and husband Jerry Meadows of Muncie, Indiana.  Two brothers: Morris Perkins of Batavia, Ohio and Bobby Perkins of Revelo, Kentucky.  Three sisters: Judy Anderson, Pine Knot, Kentucky, Patsy Perkins and Brenda Gilreath of Revelo, Kentucky.  Five Grandchildren: Chelsea and husband Andrew King, Axel Litton, McKenzie Meadows, Brian Bryant and Michael Soard II.  Three great grandchildren: Hunter, Ava and Lukas Bryant.

Funeral Services were conducted on Thursday, March 24, 2016  in the Chapel of the McCreary County Funeral Home with Bros. Linville Maxwell and Earl Davis Officiating. Burial Followed  in the Taylor Ridge Cemetery.

Lula KingLula Dean King age 77 years 3 months and 28 days of Strunk, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, March 13, 2016 at her home.

Funeral services were held Thursday, March 17, 2016 at 1:00 pm at the First Hickory Grove United Baptist Church with Bro. Robert King, Bro. Jerry O’Dell and Bro. Braxton King officiating. Burial followed in the Otter Creek Cemetery.

She was born November 14, 1938 in Oneida, Tennessee to Obie and Hazel (Payne) Hancock. Lula was a member of the First Hickory Grove United Baptist Church where her late husband, Loyd King, pastored for several years. She was a devoted Christian, wife, and mother who enjoyed caring for her family. Lula also enjoyed caring and visiting with the elderly of the community as well as the sick that were shut in. She enjoyed nature and reading, especially poetry by James Russell Lowell.

Preceding her in death are her parents; her husband, Pastor Loyd King; a son, Gary King; a brother, Larry Hancock; and a sister, Wilma Jean Potter.

Survivors include her two sons, Faron Lee King of Whitley City, Kentucky and Braxton N. King and wife, Monica of Strunk, Kentucky; two daughters, Jeannie Gail West and husband, Chris of Revelo, Kentucky and Jill Ann Bradley of Strunk, Kentucky; a sister, Connie King and husband, Robert of Oneida, Tennessee; a sister in law and childhood best friend, Vera Hancock; grandchildren, Jordyn King, Jacob Polley, Preston King, Michelle Kidd, Landon West, Erica Martin, Brandon King, Brittany King, Joshua Bradley, and Ethan Bradley; great-grandchildren, twins, Laney and Liam Kidd, Cody King, and Lily Martin.

Roger Neal picRoger S. Neal passed from this life on Tuesday, March 15, 2015 at his home in Stearns, Kentucky.  He had attained the age of 62 years, four months and 25 days.

He was born in Creekmore, Kentucky, on October 19, 1953, the son of Carl and Nadine (Dople) Neal.  His father precedes him in death.

Surviving family include his mother Nadine Neal of Stearns, three half brothers: Michael Neal of Williamsburg, Kentucky, Carl Neal of Corbin, Kentucky, and Stanley Neal of Corbin, three aunts (who were just like his sisters) and uncles: Josephine and Edwin Dalton, Peggy and Billy Chadwick, and Wanda and Russell Bennett, and several nieces and nephews.

Roger was a custodian for the McCreary County Schools and of the Church of God faith.  He loved nature, being in the woods and panning for gold.  He took great pleasure in making you laugh.  He will be truly missed by all that knew and loved him.

By his and his family’s request, he was cremated and no service was held.

Josie Privett picJosie “Ermie” Privett, age 72, passed away Saturday, March 19, 2016, at the Lakeridge Acres Health Care Facility in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Born July 17, 1943, in Sawyer, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Delbert and Edna (Vanover) Head.  She is preceded in death by a sister Patricia Louise Head and a grandson Garrett Patrick.

Surviving family include two sons: Tony Privett (companion Barb Danner) of Danville, Kentucky, and Darren Privett (companion Deana Barnett) of Somerset, Kentucky, three daughters: Wanda Patrick (husband, Gary) of Parkers Lake, Kentucky, Alvina Privett of Somerset, Patty Spradlin (husband Donald) of Sawyer, Kentucky, a brother: Archie Head (wife Sandy) of Hamilton, Ohio, a sister: Shirley Valletti (husband Leroy) of Cincinnati, Ohio, seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren with one on the way.

Ermie was a homemaker and member of the Burnetta Baptist Church.  Sheenjoyed traveling, sitting outside drinking her tea and coffee and smoking.  She will be missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Funeral services were Tuesday at the Mill Creek Methodist Church.

Burial followed at the Mill Creek Cemetery.

Randall “Randy” Ross age 56 years and 11 days of Norwood, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, March 17, 2016.

Graveside services were held Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at 2:00 pm at the McCreary Memorial Gardens.

He was born March 6, 1960 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Fred W. Ross and Dora Irene (Wilson) Ross.

Randy is preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his children, Amanda, Alyssa, and Cody Ross; a brother, Carrol D. Ross of Norwood, Ohio; sisters, Claudine Cook of Pacolet, South Carolina, and Gloria Cantor of Fairfox, Ohio; the mother of his children, Diane Ross; grandchildren, Kara Ross-Edison, Haven Gibbs, Kyler L. Ross, and Brian D. Ross; and several nieces and nephews.

Patricia (Trish) Shumate age 50, the daughter of the late Elmer and Cora Campbell, of Corbin, Kentucky passed Saturday afternoon at the Baptist Health Hospital in Corbin, Kentucky.

Funeral services were on Thursday afternoon in the Corbin Funeral Home Chapel with burial followed in the Smith Cemetery in the Faber Community of Whitley County.

Born December 8, 1952, in Gary, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Hoyt and Dovie (Williams) Ball.  Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Bill Wilson and an infant sister.

Surviving family include her son, David Stephens (wife Jennifer) of Frisco, Texas, three daughters: Sarah Wilson of Pine Knot, Kentucky, Susan Wilmot (husband Stephen) of Whitley City, Kentucky, and Becky Wilson (fiancé Steven Mason) of Oneida, Tennessee, five grandchildren: David, Kylie, and Sam Stephens, Lindsay and Jake Wilmot and one on the way, Leighton Mason.  She has two sisters: Bonnie Brown of Pine Knot and JoAnn Jones (husband Rodney) of Nancy, Kentucky.

Susie was a registered nurse having retired from the Lake Cumberland Health Department. She had attended the Meadows Grove Baptist Church.  She had a great love for her grandchildren and her dogs.  She enjoyed her flower gardens, going to the beach and she loved nursing.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 25, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of McCreary County Funeral Home with Bro. Johnny Perry officiating.  Visitation will be Thursday from 6 – 9 p.m. at the funeral home.  Burial will be at the Pine Knot Memorial Gardens.

Lola Mary Wright photoLola Mary Wright age 92 of Winter Park, Florida entered into her eternal home on Thursday, March 17, 2016, rejoining her beloved husband Estill of 38 years.

Lola is preceded in death by many friends and family members, including 2 brothers and 1 sister.

She was born June 2, 1923. Lola is the proud mother of Lana Wright & Jeffrey (Gay) Wright; grandmother of Steven; sister of Phillis Jones; and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Monday, March 21, 2016 at 1:00 pm at Carey Hand Cox-Parker Funeral Home, 1350 W. Fairbanks Ave., Winter Park, Florida.  Mrs. Wright was laid to rest in the Greenwood Cemetery in Orlando, Florida.

kidd photo-1Claude Alfred Kidd, age 102 of Phoenix, AZ, formerly of London KY, passed away Sunday, March 6, 2016. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Lora Hamlin-Kidd, infant son Donald, sons Dorman and Doyle Kidd and his second wife Minnie Hankins- Kidd of 2 years.

He is survived by his daughter-in-law Linda Kidd and his 7 grandchildren; Brenda Kidd-Barie, Terrie Kidd- Duffy, Derrick Kidd, Royce Kidd, Joseph Kidd, John Kidd and Lorie Kidd-Fowler. Also, 14 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren.

Denzil KingDenzil King age 88 years, 2 months, and 11 days of Stearns, Kentucky passed away on Friday, March 11, 2016 at the Jean Waddle Hospice Care Center.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 14, 2016 at 1:00 pm at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home with Bro. Tim Stephens and Bro. Eddie King officiating. Burial followed in the Angel Cemetery.

He was born January 10, 1928 in Hickory Knob, Kentucky to Frank M. King and Zora (Cooper) King. Denzil was a Deacon for many years at First Hickory Grove United Baptist Church. He retired from the McCreary County Board of Education after devoting 31.5 years as a teacher and a principal. He had also worked for the Job Corps as a counselor. Denzil was a positive influence to the lives of countless students, church members, and the community. He was devoted to his faith and lived out his Christianity every day, making a difference in people’s lives without even realizing. In his spare time, Denzil enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, mowing his lawn, and gardening. He also enjoyed reading his bible and playing his guitar. Denzil was a loved and well respected man who will be missed dearly.

Preceding him in death are his parents; his first wife, Thelma (Strunk) King; his second wife, Laura Jane (Phillips) King; an infant son, Frank Christopher King; and a sister, Glenys Walls.

Survivors include his sons, Phillip King and wife, Shirley, of Helenwood, Tennessee, Gary King and wife, Mona, of London, Kentucky, Othel King and wife, Kathy, of Stearns, Kentucky, Mike King also of Stearns, Kentucky, Steve King and wife, Rebecca, of Lexington, Kentucky, and Michael Kaaz and wife, Nancy, of Erlanger, Kentucky; sisters, Delores Torstrick of Kankakee, Illinois, Lida Minton of Lexington, Kentucky, and Ilaree Allen and husband, Boyce, of Huntsville, Alabama; 13 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was a member of the Indian Creek United Baptist Church, North McCreary Fire Department and Volunteer Hospice worker.

Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her first husband Roy Roger Honeycutt, and her brothers: Ronald Perry and Ray Perry.

She was born in Jellico, Tennessee on October 27, 1955 the daughter of the late Ledford and Pearl Mae (Murphy) Loudermilk.  She was a homemaker of her own home and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Her parents; six brothers, Melvin, Marvin, Jake, Clayton, Willis, and Clarence Loudermilk; and three sisters, Mary Lou Vance, Peggy Joyce, and Tava Loudermilk precede her in death.

Survivors include her three sons, Wesley Trammell and wife Jessica of Somerset, Jason Trammell and wife Deborah of Pine Knot, and Mark Trammell of Pine Knot; one brother, James Loudermilk of Whitley City, Kentucky; two sisters, Glenna Jones and Nora Dean Trammell both of Dayton, Ohio; six grandchildren, Joselynn, Madison, Carol, Henry, Kathrine, and Madie Trammell.

West picJames M. West, age 85, of Pine Knot, Kentucky, passed from this life on Thursday, March 10, 2016, at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, Kentucky.

Mr. West was born in Winfield, Tennessee, on June 15, 1930, the son of the late William F. and Bessie Hill West.  Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by three brothers:  Gilbert West, Jr., L.D. West, and Millard West, a sister: Maxine Adkins, three grandchildren: Randel Gerald West, Jr., Robert West, and Jamie Ann West, and a great grandson Anderson Lee Ball.

Surviving family include his wife Betty J. (King) West of Pine Knot, four sons: James David (Bonnie) West of Pine Knot, Steve Allen (Vickie) West of Indiana, Randel Gerald (Lynn) West of Bethel, Ohio, and Scott Kevin (Mickey) West of Maryville, Tennessee, three daughters: Wilma June (Rene’) Belanger of Toronto, Canada, Tamera Sue (Thomas) Chitwood of Pine Knot, and Tonya Jean (Andy) Dyer of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, 20 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren with one on the way.

Surviving brothers include Jerry (Virginia) West of Ohio, Bill (Linda) West of Ohio, Wayne (Deanna) West of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and Charles (Kim) West.  He has two surviving sisters: Wilma Chambers of Oneida, Tennessee and Beulah Walker of Strunk, Kentucky.James was an auto body mechanic and very much enjoyed his work.  He was a member of the Otter Creek United Baptist Church where he was a Pastor for many years.  He was a United States Army veteran having served his country during the Korean Conflict.  He enjoyed fishing and going out on the pontoon boat and jeep riding.  He took great pleasure in his grandbabies and great grandbabies.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March12, 2016, in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Bro. Bill Clark officiating.  Burial was at the Hill Cemetery at Strunk, Kentucky.

She enjoyed singing and playing the piano. In past time, Opal and her sisters, professionally known as “The Martin Sisters”, had performed regularly through the southeast. The Martin Sisters appeared on Lowell Blanchard’s “Mid-day Merry Go Round on Wnox Radio. Together, the sisters also owned and operated a restaurant. Opal was family oriented, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, crafting, cooking, and baking.

Preceding her in death are her parents; her husband, Bethel West; brothers, Homer and Lester Martin; sisters, Roxie Butler, Christine Martin, and Charlene Martin; and a grandchild, Kandi West.

Survivors include her sons, Allen West and wife, Lisa, of Stearns, Kentucky, and Chris West and wife, Jeannie, of Revelo, Kentucky; grandchildren, Landon, Erika, and Ryan; a great-granddaughter, Lily Martin; and several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

He was born in Somerset, Kentucky, on June 25, 1979, the son of Ed J. and Sharon (Blackburn) Roberts of Huntsville, Tennessee.  He has a brother, Aaron Roberts (wife Lana) of Oneida, Tennessee, and a sister, Sarah Roberts of Huntsville, and niece and nephew: Kloee and Aidan Roberts.  His grandmother is Cora Roberts of Stearns, Kentucky, aunts and uncles are Wanda Coffey, Faye Tucker, Phyllis Williams, Sue and Gordon Hatfield, Brenda Lewis and Ersel Day and Buddy, and many cousins and friends.

Born August 21, 1940, in Flowood, Mississippi, she was the daughter of the late Harvey and Henryetta (Mossey) Mathus. Also preceding her in death was her three brothers Harvey, John, and Cliffton Mathus; six sisters Mary Morris, Bernice Morris, Sadie Morris, Helen Stewart, Beatrice Tanner, and Lillian Oliver.

Surviving family include her husband Estil Angel; three daughters Darlene Freeman, Robin Tew, and Beth Jamison, step daughter Christina Hollis and step son Allen Angel; a brother Booby Joe Mathus. Barbara also has seventeen grandchildren and twentyone great grandchildren.

Barbara was a member at the Trinity Temple Church of God in Pine Knot. She enjoyed shopping, crossword puzzles, family, and wrestling. She loved her dog Winnie and being a mom and meme.

He was born October 4, 1922 in Scott County, Tennessee to Armp Blevins and Hattie (Koger) Blevins. Noble was a member of the Silerville United Baptist Church. In 1966 he became an ordained deacon at the East Appletree United Baptist Church. Noble was a Veteran of the United States Army, having served his country during WWII. He retired as a coal miner from the Stearns Coal and Lumber Company where he devoted over 30 years of his life. Noble enjoyed attending church, watching UK Basketball games, and hunting during his younger years.

Preceding him in death are his parents; his wife, Cleora (Watson) Blevins; a son, Phillip Blevins; brothers, Odie and Noah Blevins; and sisters, Alta Slaven, Minnie Burke, Monnie Hatfield, and Myrtie Davis.

Born Dec. 11, 1932 in Lee County, KY, he was the son of the late Hade and Elizabeth Crouch Durbin. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, and was a barber for over 50 years, owning Suburban Barbershop and Clays Mill Barbershop. Mr. Durbin served as the 9th District Councilman for 13 years and was baseball coach and president of Clays Mill Baseball League for many years.

Survivors include his wife,   Agnes Dickerson Durbin,  two sons, David Durbin and John Scott Durbin; two granddaughters, Avery Durbin and Elliott Durbin, all of Lexington, KY; five siblings, Betty Lunsford, Hade Durbin, Robert Durbin, Leslie Durbin, and Mary Singleton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Hubert Durbin.

Brock JonesBrock Porter Jones age 84 years, 8 months, and 22 days of Stearns, Kentucky passed away Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at his home.

Funeral services were held Saturday, February 27, 2016 at 1:00 pm at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home with Bro. David Troxell and Bro. Carl Cubby Clark officiating.

He was born June 1, 1931 in the Wolf Creek Community to Joe Jones and Ruthie (New) Jones. Brock was a member of the Lower Wolf Creek United Baptist Church. In past time he was a truck driver for Dixie Transport. Brock was well known in the community for the Shady Lane Restaurant that he and his wife, Patsy, managed and operated for over 20 years.  He enjoyed traveling to different places, camping in Pigeon Forge, and visiting Daytona Beach. Brock also enjoyed hunting, people watching, and taking care of his family.

Preceding him in death are his parents; his wife, Patsy (Winchester) Jones; sons, Robert and Jerry Jones; brothers, Cordis, Robert, Lewie, and Clell Jones; sisters, Susie Roberts, Thelma Jones, and Minnie Coffey; a grandson, Brock Dewayne Jones; and a great-grandson, Luke Troxell.

Survivors include his daughter, Linda Vaughn and husband, Doug, of Stearns, Kentucky; daughters-in-law, Hazel Jones and Shanna Jones, both of Stearns, Kentucky; a brother, Starling Jones of Stearns, Kentucky; 8 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren.

New, Cora photoCora E. New, age 84, of the Clifty Community, passed from this life on Saturday, February 20, 2016, at the Jean Waddle Hospice Care Center.

Cora was born on December 22, 1931, in the Blackie Community, to the late Ery and Rebecca Dabney West.  She was a homemaker and enjoyed watching WLJC television programs.  Cora attended Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

She is survived by her son, Billy Barnett, of Somerset; her daughter, Melissa (and David) Duncan, of Somerset; her grandchildren, Rebecca (and Roy) Pitman, of Somerset, Mindy (and fiancé Jose) Mounce, of Sloans Valley, and Sarah (and Joe) Cooper, of Stearns; her two-step-granddaughters, Aleigha and Miranda; her great-grandchildren, Tyler, Colton, Katelynn, Kyle, Brooklyn, Chloe and Charlie; her great-great-grandchildren, Trenton and Traydon; and her sister-in-law, Opal West, of Stearns.

Cora is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Harvey Lycett; her second husband, Charlie New; her three brothers, all who were World War II Veterans, Bethel West, Daniel West and Lewis West; and her two dogs, who she loved dearly, Spot and Toby.

Visitation was on Tuesday, February 23, 2016, at 12:00 noon, in the Southern Oaks Funeral Home Chapel.

Her funeral service followed the visitation in the funeral home chapel at 1:00 p.m., with Bro. Jeff Mounce and Roy Pitman officiating.  Burial is in the Southern Oaks Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hour of Harvest Ministries and/or Hospice of Lake Cumberland.

Funeral services were held Friday, February 26, 2016, in the chapel of McCreary County Funeral Home with Bro. Daniel Ridener officiating. Burial followed in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Born on September 21, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Carrie (Vanover) Swain. Also preceding her in death are a son Jerry Ridener; four brothers MacArther, Leslie, Elvis, and Edward Swain and two sisters Ivory Swain and Virginia “Jimbo” Vanover; two sister in laws Mary Swain and Bonnie Swain; two brother in laws Cecil Ridener and Herman Ridner.

Surviving is her husband Jerry Perkins of Wiborg, one daughter Marylou Harp and husband Jim Petersburg, Kentucky; son Eugene Griffis and wife Rose Marie Sue of Whitley City. Faye has two surviving brothers, Evert “Jody” Swain and wife Rhonda of Parkers Lake and Eddie Allen Swain of Sidney, Ohio. She has three sisters, Fontella Ridener, Diane Ridener and Joyce Goodin and husband Howard all of Parkers Lake; sister in laws Roxie Mitchell and Connie Swain both of Parkers Lake; brother in law James “Herb” Vanover of Parkers Lake. Faye is also survived by eight grandchildren along with eight great grandchildren.

Faye had worked her life as a CNA and loved cooking, growing a garden and canning, and making quilts. Faye was of the Baptist faith.

Beatrice was a Beautician for many years and loved to work in her flower garden and represent the Democratic Party.  She was the most loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother.

She is preceded in death by her parents, one son; Kenneth Smith, six brothers; Chester, King, Jr. Brown, Eugene Brown, Johnny Brown, Clyde King and Donald King, sisters; Alice Trammell and Joyce Chambers also preceded her in death.

Surviving family includes: her husband Donald Stephens of Indianapolis, Indiana, daughter; Grace Ann and husband Bill of Indianapolis. son; William M. and wife Debra Smith of Indianapolis,  brothers; Ray King of Bronston, Kentucky, Clarence King of Somerset. Sisters; Edna Coffey of Pine Knot and Delta Crider of Cincinnati, Ohio. 12 Grandchildren and 29 Great Grandchildren.

Funeral services were Wednesday at the McCreary County Funeral Home Chapel officiating by Bro. Conley Smith.  Burial followed in the Pine Knot Cemetery.

Kinsella Vanderpool-1Kinsella York Vanderpool, 85, of Versailles, formerly of Whitley City,  died Friday, February 26 at St. Joseph Hospital.

Funeral services were held Monday, February 29, 2016 at 1:00 pm with Rev. Mike James officiating. Burial was in the Lancaster Cemetery, Lancaster, KY

Born October 23, 1930 in Fentress County, TN, she was a daughter of the late Mack and Electie Stephens York. Also known as “Kinney” she was a member of the First Baptist Church of Whitley City and attended the Pinckard Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son, Tommy Vanderpool and daughter-in-law, Tammy, two grandsons, Nick Vanderpool and Rob Vanderpool, a great granddaughter, Adaline Grace Vanderpool, a sister, Helen Pierce of Georgetown, and a brother, Jim York of Mississippi.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Scottie Vanderpool, three sisters, Nell Foster, Lina Harper, and Rose Grosser, and a brother, Ray York.

Rodny WorleyRodney G. Worley, age 59, of Jacksboro passed away Thursday, February 25, 2016.  Graveside services were held Sunday, February 28, 2016 at 2:00pm at the Nevelsville Cemetery.

He was a member of Community Bible Baptist Church in St. Petersburg, Florida.

He is preceded in death by his father, Rev. Doyle Worley.

Survivors include his wife, Paula Worley; daughter, Tabitha Watts; son, Caleb Worley; grandchildren, Kaylee & Selenia; mother, Elizabeth (Corder) Worley; and brother, Brian Worley.
