PKFD gets new engine

The Pine Knot Fire Department took delivery of a new engine to augment their fire protection in their district and beyond this past week.

Engine 7 officially joined service Thursday night after its arrival from the assembly plant in Meyersdale, Pennslyvania. Constructed by 4 Guys Fire Trucks, Engine 7 boasts a Freightliner chassis with a 1,000-gallon tank and foam system.

PKFD Chief Tim Cox stated the process to get a new unit started last year after which the firefighters approached the Commissioners about needing a new engine for the department.

A 10-month planning process began to finance and design the unit.

“We have been working on this for a while,” Cox said. “We are so proud of our new engine and what it means to the citizens of McCreary County. This engine will allow us to continue to protect and serve our community.”

The Department is also undergoing a renovation at the time, as a new second story addition to the station is being constructed. The new addition will be outfitted with a Training Room and work-out facility for the firefighters, designed to improve readiness and physical fitness.

The new addition was made possible by a state grant.
