Mildred Redmond Ambrose, 97, of Richmond, the widow of Charles Ambrose, passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2016, at her home.

She was born February 19, 1919, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, to the late John Wilse and Olive (Marcum) Redmond.  Mrs. Ambrose was a bookkeeper for the Stearns Lumber Company of Stearns, KY, and the Fayette County Schools Central Administrative Office. She attended the First Baptist Church of Richmond.

She is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth “Libby” Jones; two grandchildren, Christopher Wayne Jones and Michael Ryan Jones, and several cousins.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers, John Paul Redmond and Forest Marcum Redmond and her son-in-law, Wayne Jones.

Funeral service were held Monday, April 25, 2016, at the First Baptist Church with Bill Fort and Mike James officiating.  Entombment followed at the Lexington Cemetery at 2:30 PM

OI2001072479_201604251247430001Pandora “Tiny” (King) Crabtree, age 61, of Pine Knot, passed away Saturday, April 23, 2016, at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, Kentucky.

Tiny was born September 13, 1954, the daughter of Noble and Betty (Miller) King.

She is preceded in death by her parents and two sisters:  Debra Lynn Ridner and Tammy King.

Surviving family include a daughter, Joanne Crabtree of Pine Knot, three brothers: Lowell David “Herbie” King and wife Sue of Whitley City, Dallas and wife Kathy King of Somerset and Gary “Buck” King of Strunk, Kentucky, four sisters: Kathy Jo King of Pine Knot, Alice Faye “Sis” Carson of Oneida, Tennessee, and Sara Boldus and Becky Lashaw both of Florida.  She has three grandchildren: Dustin, Brittany and Tiffany and two great grandchildren as well as her best friend that she considered a sister, Linda Duncan Ross.

Tiny was a homemaker and member of the Silerville Baptist Church.  She enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends, being outside, working word puzzles, coloring and watching television.  She will certainly be missed by all that knew and loved her.

He was born in Somerset, Kentucky, on October 6, 1981, the son of Eddie and Regina Davis Cordell.  He is preceded in death by his mother, maternal grandparents: Nelson and Cat Davis, and paternal grandparents, Loyd “Pete” and Sadie Cordell.

Surviving family include his father Edward “Eddie” Cordell of Revelo, two daughters: Amilia Cordell of Keavy, Kentucky and Kylie Cordell of Slavens, Kentucky, and two brothers: Nathaniel Cordell and Seth Cordell, both of Revelo, Kentucky.

Matthew was self-employed.  He enjoyed woodworking with a woodburner, swimming, fishing and being in the great outdoors.

DeLaughterHollis Rudolph DeLaughter, Jr. “Rudy”, age 53, passed away on April 2, 2016, at his home in Ashland City, Tennessee.

Rudy was born in Arizona on December 25, 1962, to Hollis Rudolph DeLaughter, Sr. “Red Lane” and Betty Taylor Summitt.

He was preceded in death by his father Hollis R. DeLaughter and a brother.

He is survived by his daughter Jenna DeLaughter, mother Betty and step-father Bill Summitt, grandmother Elizabeth DeLaughter, brothers: Roy DeLaughter, Danny (and Sarah) DeLaughter, Terry (and Louise) Delaughter, and a host of nieces and nephews.  He will be missed.

A Celebration of Life service was held Saturday, April 16, 2016, at 3:30 p.m. at the Cheatham County Funeral Home in Ashland City, Tennessee.

She was born on May 22, 1990, in Corbin, Kentucky, the daughter of Scott Tucker and Pam Davis.

She is preceded in death by her grandparents: Charlene and Earl Davis, Charlie Tucker and Milford Phillips.

Surviving family include her husband, Tyler Heath and daughter Kylee Heath of Marshes Siding, mother Pam Davis and step-father Mike Phillips of Marshes Siding,  father Scott Tucker of Stearns, Kentucky, brother Seth Phillips of Marshes Siding, grandmothers Faye Tucker of Stearns, Kentucky, and Patricia Phillips of Whitley City, Kentucky, and a special aunt Nancy.

Brittany worked as an assistant at the Somerset Community College, she enjoyed playing with her daughter, spending time with her family, traveling and shopping.

Goldia Fostina Howard, age 81, passed away Friday April 22, 2016 at the Tennova Healthcare Dyersburg Regional Hospital in Dyersburg, Tennessee. Funeral service will be Friday April 29, 2016 at 4:00pm in the chapel of the Pine Knot Funeral Home with burial to follow in the King Family Cemetery in Strunk. The family will receive friends on Friday from 2:00pm until funeral time.

Paula Louise Manning, age 58, of Pine Knot, Ky. passed away on Tuesday April 26, 2016 at the Jean Waddle Hospice Care Center.

Paula was born on February 11, 1958 in Somerset, KY., daughter of the Ernest and Emma Vineyard Manning.  She was a member of Murphy Ridge Church of God and was a homemaker. Paula loved her family, loved to cook, bake and raise flowers. She also loved to sing gospel music and play piano. She was a member of the American Legion Post in Stearns and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary.

She is survived by her son, Mark (Amanda) Manning of Pine Knot, and one step-son, Gary Dewayne (Beth) Stephens Jr. of Whitley City, one brother, Michael (Betty) Manning of Pine Knot, one sister, Virginia Kirtland of Elida, OH; grandchildren, Maranda Manning (Justin) of Stearns, Lauren Manning of Pine Knot, Ethan Stephens and Macie Stephens of Whitley City and one great-grandchild, Joshua Coffey of Stearns. She is also survived by a special cousin, Gene Goodman, a special great-nephew, Kaleb Moyer and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Emma Manning; her husband, Gary Dewayne Stephens Sr.; one brother, Billy Manning and one brother-in-law, Chuck Kirtland.

Visitation will be held on Saturday April 30, 2016 after 11AM at Murphy Ridge Church of God.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday April 30, 2016 at 1PM at Murphy Ridge Church of God with Bro. Gary Dean Phillips officiating.

Burial will follow in Jess Privett Cemetery.

She was born in Somerset, Kentucky, on September 19, 1984, the daughter of Carol Sue McCoy who resides in Stearns, Kentucky.

She is preceded in death by a sister, Veronica Mae McCoy, who passed away in 2007.  She is also preceded in death by her father Delbert “Shorty” Bryant, of Sand Hill, Kentucky, and fraternal grandfather Delbert Bryant Sr. of Revelo, Kentucky, and maternal grandfather Verlin H. McCoy.

She is survived by her mother, Carol Sue McCoy, two daughters: Cheyenne and MacKenzie McCoy, her grandmother, Reba McCoy (and Ernest Keith, Jr.) a niece, Stormy Watson, three nephews: Jimmy and Jason Shook and Jacob Stephens, several aunts, uncles and cousins.  She is also survived by her fraternal grandmother Gerline Bryant and two half-sisters; Ashley Renee Bryant of Cookeville, Tennessee and Kelsey Elaine Bryant of Oneida, Tennessee.

Deanna had worked at the Stearns Museum, she was in the ROTC program in high school and she loved spending time with her daughters.

Funeral services were held Thursday, April 21, 2016, in the chapel of McCreary County Funeral Home with Bro. Scotty Corder officiating.  Burial was at the Sherd Dobbs Cemetery.

J.T. TerryJ.T. Terry age 78 years, 4 months, and 30 days of Stearns Kentucky passed away Tuesday April 19, 2016 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

Graveside services were held Friday, April 22, 2016 at 4:30 pm at the Barren Fork Cemetery with Bro. Bruce Dixon officiating.

J.T. was born on November 20th, 1937 in Fidelity, Kentucky to Harvey and Hattie (Nichols) Terry.  He was a Vietnam Veteran and served in the United State Air Force for 20 years, from 1955 to 1975. J.T. married Margret Elizabeth (Upton) Terry from Shipton-under-Wychwood, England on April 4th 1959 and they had five sons as they traveled to multiple countries and locations within the United States during his active duty.  Upon retiring from the Air Force, he worked at Lay’s Furniture in Oneida Tennessee followed by working numerous years at the Pine Knot Job Corp. J.T. enjoyed watching Kentucky Basketball.  He was often seen around town with his dog “Waggy” at the local parks and restaurants.

Preceding him in death are his parents Harvey and Hattie Terry; a son, David Scott Terry; a brother Paul and wife Cleda Terry; a sister Maye and husband Glenn Foster;  mother-in-law, Rose Upton; a sister-in-law, Faye Terry; and a grand nephew, Paul Allan Terry.

Survivors include his wife Margret Elizabeth Terry of Whitley City, KY; sons, Steve Terry and wife, Jan, of Huntsville, TN, Bill Terry and wife, Lesley, of Whitley City, KY, Mark Terry and wife, Rebekah of Stafford, VA, and Jeff Terry and wife, Lynn of Whitley City, KY; a daughter-in-law, Teresa Terry of Oneida, TN; a brother,  R.L. Terry of Whitley City, KY; sisters, Fayrene Roberts and Wanda Phillips and husband, Lawrence, all of Whitley City, KY; grandchildren Ashley Davis and husband Orrin,  Chelsea Evans and husband Robby, Jordan Terry, Kelli Terry, Cierra Terry,  Matthew Terry, Lauren Terry, Chase Terry, and Connor Terry; a great-grandson, Mason Davis; and a great-granddaughter, Ellie Evans.

Jason DobbsJason Coy Dobbs age 41 years, 2 months, and 2 days, of Stearns, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at the Jean Waddle Hospice Care Center.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 1:00 pm at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home with Bro. Estel Jones and Bro. Delmus Watson officiating. Burial followed in the Corder Cemetery.

He was born February 11, 1975 Springfield, Illinois to Donald Dobbs and Connie (Dennis) Dobbs. Jason worked for the Monticello Flooring and Lumber. He was an accomplished artist and musician and in his spare time he enjoyed building model cars. Jason also enjoyed reading and enjoyed spending time with his family.

Survivors include his parents, Donald and Connie; brothers, Richard Dobbs and wife, Carol, and Greg Dobbs and wife, Amanda; and sisters, Melissa King and husband, Bryan, and Vicki Dobbs, all of Stearns, Kentucky. Jason is also survived by several special nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

George Tapley JrGeorge Lewis Tapley, Jr. age 72 years, 11 months, and 26 days of Stearns, Kentucky, passed away Monday, April 11, 2016 at the Jean Waddle Hospice Care Center.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at 3:00 pm at the Hill Top Baptist Church with Bro. Tommy Tapley and Bro. Larry Ball officiating. Burial followed in the Watters Cemetery.

He was born April 16, 1943 in Blue Heron, Kentucky to George Lewis Tapley, Sr. and Pearl (Watters) Tapley. Junior was a member of the Hill Top Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting, collecting guns, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Preceding him in death are his parents and a sister, Lois Goodwin.

Delta TuckerDelta Mae Boyatt Tucker age 81 years, 3 months, and 13 days of Strunk, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 1:00 pm at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home with Bro. Jim Cox and Bro. Larry Watson officiating. Burial followed in the Otter Creek Cemetery.

She was born December 31, 1934 in Oneida, Tennessee to Charles Newton King and Delphia (Spradlin) King. Delta was a member of the Ross Grove United Baptist Church. She had worked as a Teacher’s aide with Whitley City Elementary School for many years. Delta was a loving mother and friend who enjoyed spending her time with her family. She also enjoyed being outdoors, travelling, gardening, tending to her flowers, and bird watching.

Preceding her in death are her parents; her first husband, Landis Boyatt; her second husband, Bud Tucker; infant brothers, Wilburn and Forest King; a brother, Loyd King; and sisters, Georgia Ross, Virgina Baird, and Betty Bowen.

Survivors include her sons, Tim Boyatt and wife, Sherry, and Mike Boyatt and wife, Teresa, all of Strunk, Kentucky; daughters, Beverly Chapman and husband, Alan, of Stearns, Kentucky, Kathy Waters and husband, Guy, of Strunk, Kentucky, and Teresa Ball and partner, Dean Musgrove, also of Strunk, Kentucky; brothers, Logan King and wife, Sheila, of Somerset, Kentucky, and Coye King and wife, Sudie, of London, Kentucky; sisters, Ruth VanOver and husband, Gilbert Jr., of Stearns, Kentucky, Myrtle Burkett and husband, Garvis, of Somerset, Kentucky, and Wanda Gregory and husband, Donald of Covington, Indiana; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Dub Strunk.

Betty Jo Wears, 64, of Oak Harbor, OH, passed away, Friday, April 15, 2016 at, her residence. Betty was born on July 04, 1951 in McCreary County, KY, the daughter of Curtis Andrew and Virgie Leona (Canada) Perry.  She was a homemaker and worked at Aim’s Packaging, Kentucky Fried Chicken and loved making crafts.  She enjoyed playing bingo and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her husband of 46 years: Kenneth D. Wears of Oak Harbor; Daughter: Melissa Wears of Port Clinton, OH; Son: Kenneth B. Wears of Oak Harbor; 2 Granddaughters: Tally Newman and Tabetha Cutcher; 2 Great-Grandchildren; Brothers: Fred Perry, Donald Wayne Perry and wife Diadena, all of Whitley City, KY; Sisters: Freda Terrell of Elmore, OH, Beatrice Spradlin and husband Archie of Parkers Lake, KY; Brother-in-Laws: Kenneth E. She was born October 8, 1944 in Troy, Ohio, to Bishop Howard Perry and Truey (Perry) Perry. Flonnie was a member of the Dixie Freedom Baptist Church. She enjoyed playing the tambourine, singing, and attending church. Flonnie also enjoyed crafting and spending time with her family.

Preceding her in death are her parents; her husband Herman Jones, whom she married June 7, 1968; brothers, Ernie, Harold, Archie, and Walter Jones; an infant sister; and sisters, Velia Ann Staley and Rachel Slaven.

Survivors include her sons, Daniel Perry of Whitley City, Kentucky, Anthony Jones and wife, Maria, also of Whitley City, Kentucky, Russell Jones and wife, Michele, of Stearns, Kentucky, Herbie Jones, Michael Jones, and Stewart Jones and wife, Pam, all of Whitley City, Kentucky; daughters, Glenna Freeman of Whitley City, Kentucky, Teresa Perry and husband, Paul, of Revelo, Kentucky, Shantella Todd of Somerset, Kentucky, and Vicky Jones of Parkers Lake, Kentucky; her twin sister, Connie Perry of Columbus, Ohio; sister, Wanda Sue Elifritz of Troy, Ohio; 21 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sunday, April 10, 2016 at 2:00 pm at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home with Bro. Harvey Logan officiating. Burial followed in the T Chitwood Cemetery.

She was born January 25, 1924 in Creekmore, Kentucky to Frances Creekmore and Lula (Gilreath) Creekmore. Norma was a member of the Hayes Creek Church of God for 73 years and had served as an officer of the General Assembly for 12 years.  Before her retirement, she was a factory payroll clerk and  a tax consultant with H&R Block  She and her sisters formed a singing group that was known as the Creekmore Sisters.  In her spare time she enjoyed playing piano, cooking and baking.

Preceding her in death are her parents; a son, Robert H. Lawson; daughter-in-law, Ima Jean Lawson; a sister, Pearl Anderson; and brothers-in-law, Earl Anderson, Cecil Trammell, and Arthur Heth.

Survivors include her husband of 63 years, George Lawson; her daughter, Hanna Wright; a brother, Bobby Creekmore; sisters, Nadene Heth, and Ittylene Trammell; grandchildren, Rhea Gilreath and husband, Ben, Travis Lawson, and Sheena Pitzer and husband, James; and great-grandchildren, Max Gilreath, Wyatt Pitzer, and Lyla Pitzer.

Lizzie was born in McCreary County, Kentucky, on May 2, 1951, to the late Zeb and Dessie (Sumner) Perry.  Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by seven brothers and four sisters.

Surviving family include her lifelong companion of 30 years, Ken West, a daughter, Connie Redmond (husband Brian) of Whitley City, three sisters: Lona J. Perry of Whitley City, Winona Hatfield of Pine Knot, and Bonnie Webb of Pine Knot and a brother, Dillard Perry of Whitley City.  She had four grandchildren that she cherished dearly: Casandra Wood (husband Kenneth) of Pine Knot, Haylee Sellers and Savannah Redmond of Whitley City and Tyler Redmond of Bronston, Kentucky.  She had two great grandchildren: Colton and Case Wood.

Lizzie had worked as a clerk for Walmart and was a member of the Roberts Chapel Church.  She enjoyed gardening, hiking, camping, fishing, hunting and doing anything outdoors.  She was talented in drawing and sketching , loved her coffee and bossing her sister Lona.    She will be missed greatly.

Valda SlavenValda Rose Slaven age 79 years, and 23 days of Stearns, Kentucky, passed away Monday, April 4, 2016 at the Jean Waddle Hospice Care Center in Somerset, Kentucky.

Funeral services were held Thursday, April 7, 2016 at 3:00 pm at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home with Bro. Danny Staley officiating. Burial followed in the Pine Knot Cemetery.

She was born March 12, 1937 in Co-operative, Kentucky  to Inman and Kitty (Winchester) Newport. Valda was a homemaker and co-owner of West 80 Country Music.  She was of the Baptist Faith and enjoyed reading, word search puzzles, music, and spending time with her family.

Preceding her in death are her parents; and a brother, Luke Newport.

Survivors include her husband Don Slaven of Stearns, Kentucky, whom she married December 21, 1966; daughters, Donna Belcher and husband, Jamie of Bowling Green, Kentucky and Janie Slaven of Stearns, Kentucky; also several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

George Tapley JrGeorge Lewis Tapley, Jr. age 72 years, 11 months, and 26 days of Stearns, Kentucky, passed away Monday, April 11, 2016 at the Jean Waddle Hospice Care Center.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at 3:00 pm at the Hill Top Baptist Church with Bro. Tommy Tapley and Bro. Larry Ball officiating. Burial followed in the Watters Cemetery.

He was born April 16, 1943 in Blue Heron, Kentucky to George Lewis Tapley, Sr. and Pearl (Watters) Tapley. Junior was a member of the Hill Top Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting, collecting guns, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Preceding him in death are his parents and a sister, Lois Goodwin.

Born December 22, 1946, in Pine Knot, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Dewey F. and Martha (Murphy) Bryant.  He is also preceded in death by his wife Gloria Sue Bryant and a granddaughter Ava Grace Bryant.

Surviving family include two sons: Dewey Bryant and wife Misty and David Bryant and wife Frieda both of Pine Knot; three brothers Darrell Bryant and wife Judy, Dillard and wife Racheal both of Pine Knot, and Bobby Bryant of Nicholasville, Kentucky; one sister Betty Hammock of Whitley City; and a very special friend June Richardson. Delmer is also survived by two grandchildren Gloria and Raylan Roger Bryant.

Delmer was a repairman/electrician by trade. He was a member of the New Liberty Baptist Church. Delmer enjoyed fishing, gardening, and raising hogs and chickens.

Funeral services: Friday April 1, 2016. at the Pine Knot Funeral Home.

Andrew CooperAndrew Wayne Cooper age 44 years, 4 months, and 8 days of Whitley City, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, April 3, 2016 at his home.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at 12:00 noon at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home with Bro. Scott Yancey officiating. In accordance to Mr. Cooper’s wishes, cremation followed.

He was born November 26, 1971 in Muncie, Indiana to Larry Wayne Cooper and Virginia Ellen (Shook) Cooper. Andrew attended Three Strands Christian Church. He enjoyed music, DJing at the WHAY radio station, and other events. Andrew loved BBQs and critiquing food. He also had an interest in comic books and traveling.

Preceding him in death is his father, Larry.

Survivors include his wife, Valerie (Bryant) Cooper; his daughter, Andrea Cooper, of Whitley City, Kentucky; his parents, Ellen and Phillip Coffey of Stearns, Kentucky; brothers, Fred Cooper and Luke Coffey, both of Stearns, Kentucky; a sister, Shelly Cordell and husband, JR, also of Stearns, Kentucky; a sister-in-law, Linda Bryant; nieces, Ryver and Rayne Cooper; nephews, Bryer and Gavin Cordell and Bubba and Hank Baird; and numerous great nieces and great nephews.

Born in McCreary County, Kentucky, on September 30, 1931, he was the son of the late Everett and Elmira (Ferrell) Griffis.  Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Margaret Evelyn Griffis, and Ardia Mae “Cotton” Elder, two sons: Tommy Lee Elder and Tony Elder, a sister, Oglalee Griffis, and seven brothers: Ward, DeWitt, Willard, Homer, Ottis, James Blacalee, and Azariah John Griffis.

Surviving family include his children: Everett Griffis, Robert Griffis, Mary Ann Griffis, Ronnie Elder, Debbie Blasek, Sharon Elder, Johnny Elder and Michael Alan Elder, all of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Rocky Elder of Russell Springs, Kentucky.  One brother survives: Cordell Griffis of Maineville, Ohio as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Lander had worked for Monarch Tool and Manufacturing Company in Newport, Kentucky.  He loved fishing, working outdoors and gardening, hence his nickname “Gardener”.  He enjoyed music and playing the guitar.

Funeral services were Wednesday, April 6, 2016, in the chapel of McCreary County Funeral Home.

Burial followed in  Keith Morrow Cemetery.

Flonnie Jones age 71 of Whitley City, Kentucky, widow of Herman Jones, passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at her home.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 9, 2016 at 2:00 pm at the Rock Springs Baptist Church. Burial to follow in the Rock Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday after 6:00 pm at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home.

Orville JonesOrville O. Jones age 88, of Sidney, Ohio passed away Monday, April 4, 2016 at the Fair Haven Shelby County Home. He was born on April 3, 1928 in Whitley City, Kentucky, the son of the late Ralph and Rhoda (Maxwell) Jones.

Mr. Jones retired from Copeland Corporation as a tow motor operator. He was a member of First Baptist Church.

On June 11, 1955 Orville married Jacqueline Harvey who preceded him in death June 20, 2015. He is survived by two children, Andrew (Judy) Jones, and Mary Cornett both of Sidney, two siblings, Adel Whitehead and Earl Jones both of Whitley City, KY, six grandchildren, Jason (Brandi) Long, Chris (Jenny) Long, Amber (Brad) Jutte, Heather Cornett, Jenni Long and Megan Cornett, and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Marsha Long, one son, Michael Jones, two brothers, Willie and George Jones, two sisters, Randy Corder and Nora Parks, and one great-grandson, Caleb Long.

Funeral services were held Thursday, April 7, 2016 at Cromes Funeral Home, 302 S. Main Ave, Sidney, with Pastor Scott New officiating. Burial followed at Shelby Memory Gardens in Sidney.

Willard Estil Long, Jr, age 70, of Dahlonega, GA passed away February 9, 2016 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center after an extended illness.

Willard loved Nascar races and his western movies.

He was the son of the late Willard Estil Long and Nellie Gilreath Long Meadows.

Willard is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ina Long, Dahlonega, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Aubry Roberts, Dahlonega, GA; daughter and son-in-law, April and Steve Howard, Dahlonega, GA;  daughter and fiancé, Dana Roberts and Gene Cothren, Dahlonega, GA; grandchildren, Angelica Faith Howard and fiancé Jordan Wales, Chasity Leigh Grizzle, and Seth Roberts; great-grandchild, Braylee Wales.

Funeral services were Friday, February 12, 2016 at the Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega, GA.

Rev. David Fields and Rev. Tommy Panter will officiate.

Interment followed in the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery in Lumpkin County.

Fannie MorganFannie Ellen Angeline Morgan age 104 years, 4 months, and 12 days of Whitley City, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, March 31, 2016 at the Signature Healthcare of McCreary.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 2, 2016 at 4:00 pm at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home with Bro. Mike Gregory officiating. Burial followed in the Pine Knot Cemetery.

She was born November 19, 1911 in Sawyer, Kentucky, the fifth child of Willis H. Morgan and Sarah (Lawson) Morgan.  In 1924, her father was offered a job as a cashier with the new Pine Knot Banking Company so Fannie and her family moved  to the “boom town” of Coolidge/Whitley City.

Fannie began her teaching career at an early age; teaching at Mill Creek, Sawyer, Layford, and Yamacraw. In 1943 she started working as a secretary for the McCreary County Board of Education. During this time she drove daily to Union College to further her education. After accepting a teaching position with the Fayette County School System, Fannie left McCreary County.

Fannie retired after teaching for forty years and returned  to McCreary County where she began her second career as a bookkeeper for  Winchester, Patton, and Burgess Medical Clinic. She drove herself to and from work every day until a month before her 100th birthday. Deciding to let her niece Betty or her husband Elmer drive her to work, Fannie continued working until 2012. It was then she suffered a fall and broke a rib, resulting in her being hospitalized and later being sent to the McCreary County Rehabilitation Center.

She was a member of The Whitley City United Methodist Church since 1936 and served as treasurer until her hospitalization; The William Whitley Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, and The Charles Gatliff Chapter Sisters of the American Revolution since 1974.    In her spare time, she enjoyed travelling and had visited many foreign countries. Fannie was also a loyal member of the Republican Party.

Preceding her in death are her parents; a sister, Bertie Ann; twin sister, Nannie Susan; brothers, Benjamin Elias and John Sampson; step-brothers, James Frank, Carl C., William Rufus, and George Fredrick; a step-sister, Hallie Mae Morgan.

Survivors include a special niece and caregivers, Betty Jo Olson and husband, Elmer of Whitley City, Kentucky, and Allen Winchester and wife, Portia of Lexington, Kentucky; nieces and nephews, Virginia Taylor of Parkers Lake, Kentucky, Calvin Morgan of Florida, Dorothy Craddock of Delray Beach, Florida, Bertie Evans of Ocala, Florida, Jean Bertash of Parkers Lake, Kentucky, Louie Morgan of Loveland, Ohio, Joan Johnson of Sterling Heights of Michigan, and Jean Scargal of Centerline, Michigan; and numerous friends.

Privett, Darren photoOrville “Darren” Privett, age 39, of Somerset, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 2, 2016.

Darren was born in Corbin, on October 5, 1976, son of the late Orville Edward and Josie Head Privett.  Darren was a courier for the Commonwealth Journal and a delivery driver for Snappy Tomato Pizza.  He loved going to concerts, enjoyed music of all kinds; and was an avid Cincinnati Bengals fan.  Darren was a member of Eagle Heights Church and was very active in the Celebrate Recovery Program.  He loved to grill out and spend time with his family, especially with his son.  He was looking forward to his first grandchild, who is on the way.

He is survived by his son, Darren “Ray” Privett, of Somerset; his daughter, Gloria Ann Goggins, of Frankfort; his fiancé, Deana Barnett, of Somerset; his brother, Anthony “Tony” Privett (and Barbara Danner), of Junction City; his sisters, Alvina Privett, of Somerset, Patty (and Donald Ray) Spradlin, and Wanda (and Gary) Patrick, of Parkers Lake; his aunt, Shirley (and Leroy) Valetti, of Cincinnati; his uncle, Archie (and Sandy) Head, of Cincinnati; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins; and a host of close friends.

Darren is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

The funeral services were Wednesday, in the funeral home chapel, with Bro. Chris Brown officiating.  Burial followed in Somerset City Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Tanner Brown, Josh Poynter, Bryan Hood, Bob Boon, Kevin Hewitt, Steve Thomsen, Gary Cook, Billy Cook, Johnny Maybrier and Johnny Calhoun.  James Sammons will be an honorary pallbearer.

Caleb Buster StephensCaleb “Buster” Stephens, Jr. age 79 years, 3 months, and 19 days of Whitley City, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, March 31, 2016 at his home.

A Celebration of Life Service was held Saturday, April 2, 2016 at 1:00 pm at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Methodist Cemetery.

He was born December 4, 1936 in Whitley City, Kentucky to Caleb Stephens Sr. and Evelyn (Strunk) Stephens. Buster was a Veteran of the United States Navy, having served in both the Korean and Vietnam War. He was retired from the McCreary County Board of Education where he devoted over 32 years as a school teacher and transportation supervisor for the bus garage. In his spare time, Buster enjoyed woodwork. He built his own home and many beautiful grandfather clocks. Buster also had an interest in fast cars, motorcycles, and boats.

Preceding him in death are his parents; his wife, Burma (Brown) Stephens; and a sister, Karen.

Survivors include his son, Greg Stephens and wife, Irina, of Port St. Lucie, Florida; a daughter, Lynn Terry and husband, Jeff, of Whitley City, Kentucky; brothers, Scott Stephens and wife, Sandy, of Floral City, Florida, David Michael Stephens and wife, Shawn, of Tallahassee, Florida, sisters, Marjorie Brackett of Lexington, Kentucky, Jeanetta Wilson of Litha Springs, Georgia, Georgia Kay Nevels of Lexington, Kentucky, Sue Douglas of Denver, Colorado, and Kathy Bird, of Greenvile, Tennessee; and 3 grandchildren, Chase Terry, Conner Terry, and Svetlana Stephens.
