On the Road Again

The horse and rider trotting down U.S. HWY 27 through McCreary County on Saturday and Sunday weren’t just out for a leisurely ride.  The two were on their way to get on the TransAmerica Trail in Tennessee and then head westward to Colorado.  Tom Witten and Blaze, Tom’s fifteen year old Tennessee Walking Horse, camped overnight in McCreary County at Barren Fork Horse Camp as part of their journey.  Witten is making the journey in honor of his son, Jack, who previously planned to make the trip alongside his father.  Sadly, Jack died in an ATV accident at the age of 29.  Witten is also riding to show support for Wounded Warriors and cancer patients.

A friend travels by car with Witten, hauling essential equipment and food for Blaze.  Witten travels about twenty miles per day.  He says he has met a lot of wonderful people already and is looking forward to heading West.
