Raiders fall to Wayne in District
The Cardinals have had the Raiders’ number all season. In both their match-ups in the regular season Wayne County emerged with a 10-0 win; and in the opening round of the 48th District Monday night, the trend held true again as McCreary’s season came to a close.
Wayne County took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning after Trey Blevins hit a lead-off triple and scored on a sacrifice fly to put the Cardinals in the lead.
They padded their advantage in the second – loading the bases on a pair of one out singles sandwiched around a walk. Blevins followed with a 2-run double, then a Jonathan Criswell single that plated 2 more. Garner’s 2-out single added another run for a 6-0 Wayne County lead.
Wayne County added solo runs in the third and fourth innings, then put the game away with a pair of runs in the fifth for a 10- lead.
McCreary showed signs of mounting a comeback in the top of the fourth after Trysten Adkins led off with a single, followed by a walk to Cole Kidd. After a fly-out, and a fielders’ choice Zech Moore drew a walk to load the bases, but Wayne County pitcher Nathan Garner struck out the next batter he faced to end the threat.
McCreary ended the season with a 9-23 record.
