Billy Ray Daugherty, age 68, husband of Thelma Daugherty passed away Saturday May 21, 2016 at the Jean Waddle Care Center in Somerset, Kentucky.

Funeral service will be Sunday May 29, 2016 in the chapel of the Pine Knot Funeral at 1:00pm with burial to follow in the Pine Knot Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 6:00pm until 9:00pm Saturday at the funeral home.

Smilie Hillary Keith, age 76, passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2016, at the Mountain View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Pineville, Kentucky.

Smilie was born in Somerset, Kentucky, on March 24, 1940, the son of the late Osborne and Nancy (Phillips) Keith. Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by four brothers: Ernest Lee Keith, Paul Keith, James Keith and Osborne Jr. Keith and two sisters: Clella Worley and Chloe Mosses.

Surviving family include a daughter Melinda Keith Wilson (husband Ryan) of Stearns, a brother, Donald Keith of Williamsburg, a sister, Reba Bell of Pine Knot and a sister-in-law, Daphine Keith of Williamsburg.

Smilie had worked for Ropers Appliances in Williamsburg and he enjoyed hunting and fishing.

In accordance with the family’s wishes, he was cremated with no service to be held.

Jerry was born on August 15, 1938 to the late Charlie and Glenna (Hughes) Perkins. Also preceding him in death is his brother Larry Perkins, a son Jerry.

Survivors include two sons; Tony Perkins and Gary Perkins, step son Eugene Griffis and wife Rose, step daughter Mary Lou Harp and husband James “Jim”. He is also survived by four grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and five step great grandchildren.

Jerry served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict. Jerry was a member of the Native American Tribe which he was most proud of and showed it through his life and was known by the name of Chief Buffalo Ear.

Funeral service were Monday May 23, 2016 at 2:00pm in the chapel of the McCreary County Funeral home with burial to follow in the Pleasant Knob Cemetery.

He is preceded in death by his father.

Surviving family include his mother Glenda Stephens of Pine Knot, a brother Floyd Ray Stephens Jr. of Evensville Indiana; three sisters: Misty Stephens and companion Georgette Potter of Williamsburg, Christy Stephens and companion Billy Strunk of Winfield, Tennessee, Sandy Spradlin and companion Judy Wilson of Pine Knot, and Lisa Stephens of Evensville. In accordance with his wishes he was cremated.

Alfred Kenneth Gibson, of Monticello, Kentucky, passed from this life on Tuesday, May 17, 2016, at the age of 54 years.

He was born on May 1, 1962, in Jellico, Tennessee the son of William Alfred and Shirley Winchester Gibson.

He is preceded in death by father.

Surviving family include his wife, Pamela of Monticello, KY. His son Noah Gibson, his mother, Shirley Gibson. Brother, William Kenny Gibson and three sister, Sharon Hollis, Debbie Gibson and Karen Eldridge, two grandchildren, Noah and Kenna Gibson all of Stearns.

Alfred worked as a bus driver for the McCreary County School District. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time outdoors.

Graveside services will be at Angel Cemetery, Wednesday, May 18, 2016 with Brother Rufus Hughes officiating.

OI600588995_doc00887620160512145014001Geneva Nell Kidd, of Pine Knot, Kentucky, passed peacefully into eternal life on Thursday, May 12, 2016, at the Signature Health Care facility in Pine Knot.  She had attained the age of 92 years and three months.

Born in Pine Knot, Kentucky, on February 12, 1924, she was the daughter of Bill and Ethel (Hamlin) Richmond.  Her parents precede her in death along with three brothers: Joe Bill Richmond, Thomas Richmond and David Richmond, and four sisters: Dorothy Shepherd and Janie Shambalee, and Ina May and Shirley Richmond who died at an early age, her son-in-law Everett Sons and a grandson Danny Wayne Sons.

Surviving family include her husband of 69 years, Otis Kidd of Whitley City, whom she married May 7, 1947, in Rossville, Georgia, a daughter Aldena Sons of Williamsburg, Ohio, four grandsons: Everett James “Buddy” Sons, Jerry Sons, Joe Sons and John Sons and six great grandchildren.

Mrs. Kidd had worked for Newtone Chime Company in Cincinnati for 24 years.  She was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church and enjoyed going to shopping malls and spending time with her daughter and grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 14, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Bro. Scotty Corder officiating.  Special music was by Israel Clark who performed “Amazing Grace” and “Welcome Home”.  She was laid to rest at the Angel Cemetery at Stearns, Kentucky.

Opal MooreOpal Marie Moore, age 89, of Fed Stephens Road, Pine Knot, Kentucky passed away on Monday, May 9, 2016 at Baptist Health in Corbin, Kentucky. She was born on May 22, 1926 in Pine Knot, Kentucky to the late Frank Meadors and Sarah  (Taylor) Meadors.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Luther Moore; and four children, Charles Moore, Shirley Moore, Shelby Moore and Luther Moore Jr.

She is survived by a son, Harold Moore (Ella) of Pine Knot, Kentucky; three grandchildren, Anthony Moore of Pine Knot, Kentucky, Tammy Butler (Stacy) of Oneida, Tennessee and Tina Douglas of Pine Knot, Kentucky; four great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; one sister, Maerene Baird of Pine Knot, Kentucky; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends to mourn her passing.

She was laid to rest following a private Graveside Service in the Pleasant Run Cemetery.

Sherree was born on June 10, 1960 in Oneida, Tennessee, the daughter of Richard Graham Roark and the late Gail Sharon (Ball) Roark. She was a 1978 graduate of Dorchester Academy and a graduate of the University of South Carolina. She was a former laboratory technician with LabCorp and a member of Memorial Baptist Church.

Surviving is her father Richard Graham Roark, of Reevesville, South Carolina; her fiance Marshall Richburg of St. George, South Carolina; aunts, Elizabeth Colleen Atkinson of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, Evelyn Kathleen Cory, Terre Haute of Indiana; uncles, Dan Gimmer Roark and Sylvia of Chilhowie, Virginia, and Howard Granville Roark of Bluff City, Tennessee; and numerous cousins.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Born May 8, 1960, in Scott County, Tennessee, he was the son of Dorman and Patricia (Simpson) Spradlin.  He is preceded in death by his father Dorman Spradlin.

Surviving family include his mother Patricia Spradlin of Pine Knot, two sons: Jason Spradlin (wife Ashley) of Whitley City, and Shawn Spradlin (and Carri Mason) of Pine Knot, and Mike Durham whom he thought of as a son,  two sisters: Elizabeth Ann Neal (husband Ralph) of Stearns and Karen Sue New (husband Chris) of Stearns, his brother David Spradlin (wife Leisa) of Pine Knot, four grandchildren: Jarrod, Brooklyn, Kynder and Kase.  He had five nephews and five great nephews, three nieces and eight great nieces.  His long time companion was Teresa Walker and her children: Amber, Cody and Jeannie Walker and grandchildren: Alex and Brianna.

Jeff was a mechanic having owned and operated Spradlin’s Transmission Shop in Pine Knot.  He attended the Roundtop United Baptist Church.  He loved old cars and trucks, Nascar, and any kind of racing.   He most certainly will be missed.

Funeral services were  Monday, May 16, 2016, in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Bro. Daniel Trammell and Bro. Larry Ball officiating.

Burial followed in the  Lower Cal Hill Cemetery, Pine Knot, Kentucky

Thelma WrightThelma C. Wright age 91 years, 5 months, and 22 days of Louisville, Kentucky, formerly of Stearns, passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at the Episcopal Church Home.

Funeral services were held Friday, May 13, 2016 at 12:00 noon at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home with Bro. Eddie Miller officiating. Burial followed in the Pine Knot Cemetery.

She was born November 18, 1924 in Oneida, Tennessee to Lewis Chitwood and Sadie (Stephens) Chitwood. Thelma retired from the McCreary County Board of Education after devoting 44 1/2 years to teaching. She enjoyed being involved with her family, spending time with her grandchildren, playing bingo and bowling. Thelma was also a big UK fan and enjoyed watching UK basketball games.

Preceding her in death are her parents and a sister, Edna Prater.

Survivors include her son, Mike Wright and wife, Relda, of Louisville, Kentucky; grandchildren, Bryan Wright and wife, Maggie, and Ashley Wright; great-grandchildren, Luke, Sarah, and Michael; and a nephew, Steve Prater of Charlotte, North Carolina.

He was born in Jellico, Tennessee, on September 1, 1955, to Lansford Douglas and Jessie (Lawson) Douglas.  He is preceded in death by a brother David Douglas, a sister Hester Elaine Douglas, a nephew David Anthony Douglas, grandparents: Kenneth and Sophia Lawson and Russell and Bertha Douglas, his step-father George Jack Douglas and step-mother Tavia Douglas.

Surviving family include his wife Linda (Worley) Douglas, his father Lansford Douglas of Woodbine, Kentucky, mother Jessie Douglas of Strunk, Kentucky, one daughter Crystal Lee Canada, two grandsons: Cody and Chase Canada of Strunk, Kentucky, one brother, Donnie Douglas and wife Brenda of Strunk, and two sisters: Valeria Blankenship and husband Darrell and Angie Heatwall and husband Glenn and many aunts, uncles and friends.

Jerry had been a heavy equipment operator for Mustang Coal Company and a member of the Whitley City Church of God.  He served in the United States Navy and enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., on Monday, May 9, 2016, in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Bro. Dennis Neal and Bro. Clay Cook officiating.  He was laid to rest at  the Hayes Creek Cemetery at Strunk, Kentucky.

Dorothy was a homemaker and member of the Jellico Baptist Church.  She enjoyed gardening and flowers and quilting.

She was born August 10, 1921, in Pulaski County, Kentucky, to the late Walter and Miranda (Burdine) Wells.  She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Carl Perkins, a son Jimmy Perkins; two daughters: Betty Jean Perkins and Frances Baird, three brothers: Andy Wells, Lewis Wells, Floyd Wells, two sisters: Marie Martin and Sylvia Bullock and a grandson, Greg Baird.

Surviving family include a son, John Perkins of Pine Knot, two daughters: Vivian Neal of Richmond, Indiana and Deanna West (husband Wayne) of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, a sister, Elsie Ping of California, six grandchildren: Kim Beck, Karen Pope, Chris West, Mike West, Tim Perkins and Tony Perkins, 13 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

Thurstle RidenerThurstle William Ridener age 85 years, 6 months, and 26 days of Stearns Kentucky passed away Sunday May 1, 2016 at his home.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at 2:00 pm at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home with Bro. Eddie King and Bro. Tim Stephens officiating. Burial followed in the Angel Cemetery.

Thurstle was born on October 5, 1930 in Smithtown, Kentucky to Lloyd and Oma (Rose) Ridener. He was a retired Coal Miner for Stearns Coal and Lumber Company and butcher for Earl Anderson’s Grocery.  He served his church as a deacon.  Thurstle was a member of the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonel’s. He loved the outdoors, hunting, beekeeping, tending his garden, but the family he and Sue created was his most prized possession.  His strong character was built on faith, hard work, and his generous and humble spirit. He will be forever missed, but his strength will carry us on.

Preceding him in death are his parents; brothers, Delbert S. Ridener, Rufus V. Ridener, Thurman C. Ridener, Ronald Roger Ridener, Kline Truman Ridener, and Clinton Leeds Ridener; sisters, Frances L. Ridener and Mae West.

He was born on February 2, 1939 in Honey Bee, KY to Lanceo Justin and Helen (Ball) Taylor, who both preceded him in death. On February 17, 1961, he married Ruth May Green, who preceded him in death on August 13, 2012.

Justin proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army and was a small arms repairman, and retired from the Army in 1992 after 27 ½ years of service. He was a Life member of both the VFW Post 1275 and the American Legion Post 96. He was also a member of the Lima Eagles Aerie 370. Justin enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting, but above all he enjoyed spending time with his family.

Surviving are his sons Greg Taylor of the Philippines, and Robert (Ellie) Taylor of Bluffton; his daughters Shellie (Donny Miner) Anderson of Lima, Karen (Owen) Garland of Lima and Judy Barnes of Kansas City, MO; his brother David Taylor of Parkers Lake, KY; his sisters June Mackey of Burnside, KY and Juanita Freeman of Parkers Lake, KY; his nine grandchildren, including Sarah (Bob) Brown, who was his angel; his fourteen great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son Jeff Taylor; his brothers Buddy Joe Taylor and Willie Jackson Taylor; his sisters Evelyn Mutters, Thelma Joyce Renfro, Jada Lynch and Janie Godby.

A memorial service will follow at the Eagle Creek United Baptist Church at a later date.

Born in Somerset, Kentucky, on February 8, 1952, he was the son of the late Henry and Dureda (Marcum) Hill.  Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother Guy Edward Hill, two sisters: Jean Roundtree and Alma Burke, and his in-laws: Rev. Earl and Grace (Foster) Davis.

Surviving family include his wife, Linna (Davis) Hill whom he married December 31, 1971, of Stearns, two sons: Kenneth Roger Hill, II of Stearns and Adam Ray Hill of Stearns, a brother, Jim Hill of Muncie, Indiana, four sisters: Alta Liz Fraley (husband Howard) of Clayton, Ohio, Ruth Boyatt (husband Junior) of Mooreland, Indiana, and Brenda Roundtree of Dayton, Ohio,  brothers and sisters-in-law: Jo and Randall Kidd, Earl Jr. and Vicki Davis, Jack and Mildred Davis, Wayne and Loretta Thompson, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Kenny was the pastor of White Oak Junction United Baptist Church. He had been a coal miner and a truck driver having retired from Eagle Trucking.  He worked for DRW Express, Oneida Columbus, and other local trucking companies.  He enjoyed camping and attending church.

Funeral services were Thursday, May 5, 2016, in the chapel of McCreary County Funeral Home with Rev. Dwight Davis officiating.

Interment followed in Stearns Cemetery, Stearns, Kentucky

Goldia was born September 16, 1934, the daughter of Ledford and Grace Lee (Stephens) King.

She is preceded in death by her parents,  a son Ronny Anderson, three brothers Dean, Atley, and Willy King, two sisters Myrtle Ross and Emmy Rydner, and a granddaughter Rhonda Tilly.

Surviving family include three sons Jonathan Howard of Ridgely, Douglas Howard of Trinity, Texas, and Michael Anderson of Dalton, Georgia, three daughters Grace Blankenship of Dyersburg, Robin Smith of Ridgely, Cynthia Gilreath of Pine Knot, Kentucky. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.

Graveside Service were Friday April 29, 2016 in The King Family Cemetery in Strunk, Ky.

Preceded in death by his wife Gracie Perry after 67 years of marriage, she passed away on January 19, 2015.

Hoyatt is survived by a daughter Carolyn Lay of St. Petersburg, Florida, two sons Arlin Perry and wife Sonya of Charlotte and Darvin Perry and wife Sharon of Phoenix, Arizona eight grandchildren Cassidy Perry and wife Mandy, Vickie Cockrell and husband Chuck, Carrie Ziegler and husband John, Chris Perry and wife Amber, Steven Perry and wife Carrie, Tina Muhleisen and husband Kevin, Kyle Perry, and Kelsey Perry, three great grandchildren Maddie Perry, Haley Perry, and Logan Muhleisen.

Hoyatt was originally from Honeybee, Kentucky. He spent most of his working life as owner and manager of a Gulf Service Station and U-haul Dealership in Cincinnati, Ohio. He enjoyed his retirement years spending time with his grandchildren.

He will be forever in our hearts as we remember his loving care for each of his family members. Hoyatt was a member of the Madisonville/Mariemont/Madeira Masonic Lodge in Cincinnati, Ohio and a member of the Scottish Rite.

Joe was born on June 26, 1966 to the late Willis Delbert and Helen Jennie (Gay) Wieners in St. Louis, Missouri.

Joe is preceded in death by his parents.

Surviving family is one brother Bud Wieners of Winfield, Tennessee, three sisters Rose Cort, Lily Cochran, and Helen Wieners all of St. Louis.

Joe enjoyed singing Elvis Presley karaoke and family time. Joe will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

In accordance with his wishes he was cremated with a private memorial service to follow at a later date.
