County man involved in fatal accident

A Stearns man was involved in a fatal accident Monday afternoon in Wayne County.

According to the Kentucky State Police, around 2:00 p.m. Timothy Stephens, 42, was operating a 1989 Freightliner log truck on KY 92, about four miles east of Monticello when his vehicle apparently collided head-on with a 2001 Acura.

The car was driven by Timothy E. Gregory, 28, of Monticello, who was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries sustained in the accident. A passenger, identified as Heidi Kennedy, 31, of Science Hill, was airlifted by PHI Air Ambulance to the University of Kentucky Medical Center, where she is listed in critical condition.

The KSP states none of the subjects were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, and neither drug nor alcohol use are suspected as factors in the incident.

Kentucky Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Sergeant Randy Honeycutt is conducting the investigation and was assisted at the scene by CVE Officers Chris McQueen and David Burton, KSP Trooper Richie Baxter, members of the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, Monticello Fire Department, Wayne County EMS and the Wayne County Coroner’s Office.
