Tragic accident claims McCreary man
A young McCreary County man lost his life Monday in a tragic accident in the Keno community in Pulaski County.
Pulaski County Sheriff Greg Speck states that around 6:00 p.m. Jordan G. New, 23, of Stearns, was traveling northbound on U.S. 27 in a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt when his vehicle was struck by a southbound Chevrolet Tahoe, which had lost control on the wet roads.
The Tahoe, driven by John V. Lyles, 60, of Burnside was traveling southbound when he apparently lost control of the vehicle, causing it to spin and crossed the center line into oncoming traffic.
New and Lyles were both transported to the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital for treatment of their injuries, as well as a passenger from each vehicle. Traveling with New was identified as Brooklyn A. Braden, 18, of Whitley City. Traveling with Lyles was his wife: Rebecca I. Lyles, 58.
New was later airlifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center via Air Methods Air Ambulance, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The PCSO was assisted at the scene by members of the Pulaski County Rescue Squad and the Tateville Volunteer Fire Department.
