Man dies after moped hit

A Stearns man died Tuesday night at the University of Kentucky Medical Center from injuries suffered in a two-vehicle collision earlier that day.

According to the Kentucky State Police David F. Jackson, 46, was traveling northbound on U.S. 27 in Whitley City on a moped around 1:30 a.m. when he was struck from behind by another vehicle.

The KSP identified the driver of the 2003 Chevrolet minivan, as Tracey L. Byler, 29, of Monticello.

Jackson, who was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, was airlifted to the UK Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 10:30 p.m. that night.

Neither drug nor alcohol use is suspected to be a factor in the accident.

KSP Trooper Wendell Higgenbotham is in charge of the investigation and was assisted at the scene by the McCreary County Sheriff’s Department, members of the Whitley City Fire Department and McCreary County EMS.
