Conley Blevins age 83 of Whitley City, Kentucky, passed away Monday, July 25, 2016 at the Hospice of the Bluegrass in Hazard, Kentucky.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at 10:00am in the Hickman-Strunk Funeral.

Burial will follow in the Lower Hickory Grove Cemetery.

Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home served the family.

Born December 13, 1953, in Cincinnati, Ohio, he was the son of Chester “Ed” Brooks and Thelma (Minor) Burton.

Surviving family include his wife Kimberly (Jones) Brooks of Whitley City, his father Chester “Ed” Brooks and wife Jean of Whitley City, his mother Thelma Burton of Whitley City, a son Clifford “Frank’ Brooks (and Elizabeth Watts) of Mt. Washington, Kentucky, a daughter, Savannah ‘Winn’ Kidd (husband Darrin) of Whitley City, two brothers: Chester Edward Brooks, Jr. of Lexington, Kentucky and Jack Brooks of Winfield, Tennessee, : three sisters: Phyllis Ann Lyons of Whitley City, Jennifer Stork of Richmond, Kentucky and Tammy ‘Jody’ Sedivi of Whitley City, and two grandchildren:  Darian and Chloe Kidd.

Earl had been a welding instructor at the Pine Knot Job Corps.  He served his country in the U.S. Navy, was a member of the Kinne Slaven Post 115 of the American Legion, the VFW and was a member of the Greenwood Masonic Lodge.  He attended the Upper Hickory Grove Baptist Church.  He enjoyed working in his garage, gardening and cooking.  He loved his family and friends and making people smile.  He enjoyed life to the fullest and will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.

Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m., Monday, July 25, 2016, in the chapel of McCreary County Funeral Home with Bro. Eddie King officiating.  A Masonic service will be held at 6:30 p.m.  He will be laid to rest at the Higginbotham Cemetery following the services.

Serving as pall bearers are Frank Brooks, James Lyons, Darrin Kidd, Steve Glenn, Greg Jones and Jack Brooks.

OI1100731234_CramanEdnaEdna (Creekmore) Carman, 91, of Burlington, died at 5:45 AM Wednesday, June 8, 2016, at Sunnybrook Assisted Living in Burlington. Born December 15, 1924, in Pine Knot, KY, she was the daughter of Thomas and Dora Neal Creekmore. On November 21, 1948, she married Kenneth Carman in Knoxville, Tennessee. She received a Masters in Christian Education from Berkeley Divinity School. Edna grew up on her father’s Kentucky farm. She went to California to work as a secretary at the Naval base during WWII. She then attended Berkeley Divinity School where she met Kenneth. After they were married she went to the Philippines as a missionary teacher, where her daughter was born.  They returned to the United States in 1953 and settled in Salina, KS, where her two sons were born.  In 2010 they moved to Burlington. She was a friend of the Parkside First Baptist Church and a member of the Church at the Cross in Salina. In previous years she was a member of Salina Art Society, Sweet Adelines and was the author of several books. In recent years she enjoyed visits with her family, doing word search puzzles and going on car rides around Burlington. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Scott (Teresa) Carman of Patterson, CA, Paul (Nara) Carman of Evanston, IL; one daughter, Kathy (Tyrone) Henderson of Burlington; many grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one sister, Anna Mary Creekmore of Strunk, KY; and several nieces and nephews She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, J.C. and Willard Creekmore. Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory. The memorial service for Mrs. Carman will be 2:00 PM Friday, June 10, 2016, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home and Crematory with Reverend Marshall Jackman officiating.  A time of food and fellowship will be held at the Family Buffet after the service. Burial will be in Pine Knot Cemetery in Pine Knot, KY at a later date. Memorials have been established for Parkside First Baptist Church and Great River Hospice. Screen shot 2016-07-26 at 3.12.12 PMDavid Frank Jackson departed from this life on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 in Whitley City, KY, being 46 years, 1 month and 6 days old. He was born in Hamilton, Ohio, on June 14, 1970 to Robert Jackson and the late Julene (Barnett) Jackson.

David was of the Pentecostal faith and enjoyed camping, fishing, four wheeling, cookouts and spending time with his family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his mother.

Surviving family includes: his father Robert Jackson, of West Virginia, three brothers: Eddie Huddleston of Stearns, KY, Paul Jackson of Ohio, and Robert Jackson of Stearns, KY, three sisters: Chrissy Baker of Whitley City, KY, Emma Lee Jackson and Vickie Jackson both from Ohio.

Funeral Services were  Monday, July 25, 2016 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of the McCreary County Funeral Home with bro. Scotty Corder officiating.

Burial followed in  Piney Grove Cemetery

OI1657168839_RossKennethKenneth (Kenny) Dillard Ross, 65, of Revelo, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at Lake Cumberland Regional Medical Center in Somerset, Kentucky, with family and friends by his side. The cause of death was heart failure.

Born February 3, 1951, in Whitley City, Kentucky, he is the son of the late Dillard Ross and Vonda (Griffith) Ross, the youngest of six.  He married Hannah Louise (Ryan) on October 2, 1971 who survives.

Kenny was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather.  His children will remember him as a caring and patient father.  His friends will remember him as a caring man who never met a stranger; a man who worked hard all his life and was generous and loyal.

Kenny is survived by his three children: daughter and son-in-law Teresa Lynn and Michael King of Oneida, Tennessee; daughter and son-in-law Andrea Renee and Christopher Stephens of Winfield, Tennessee; son Kenneth Dewayne Ross of Lexington, Kentucky; grandchildren,  Raven Alise King of Onedia, Tennessee; Kenneth Parker Ross of Corbin, Kentucky; Lauren Faith Ross of Winfield, Tennessee; and great-grandson, Hendrix Kye Wilson of Oneida.

He is also survived by his siblings; sister, Norma and husband Boyce Jones of Smithtown, Kentucky; sister Patricia and husband Richard Wood of Pine Knot, Kentucky; sister Glenna and husband Luther Gregory of Xenia, Ohio; sister Eula Meadows of Pine Knot; brother, James  and wife Phyllis Ross of Xenia, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Friday, July 22, 2016, at Pine Knot Funeral Home

Born May 10, 1937, at Co-op, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Virgil (Pete) Smith Lewis and Minnie Ethel (Jones) Lewis.  Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband: Robert Edd Smith, brothers: Eston Lewis, Virgil Leon “Pap” Lewis, Larry Lewis, Lloyd Lewis and two sisters: Lela Kidd and Othela “T” Duncan and Mildred “Midge” Davis as well as an infant Fayrene Lewis.

Surviving family include six sons: Edgar Ralph of Indianapolis, Indiana, Carroll Ray of Pine Knot, Mance Randall of Indianapolis, Danny Rex of Indianapolis, Stevie Robert of Sheboygan, Wisconsin,  and Gary Wayne of Pine Knot, daughters: Lena Rosie of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, and Lanta Sue of Pine Knot.  He has one surviving brother: Edward Lewis of Marshes Siding, Kentucky, three sisters: Ella May Smith of Muncie, Indiana, Evalee Duncan of Revelo, Kentucky, Nelda Martin of Revelo, and Carolyn Helbert of Revelo.  She had 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Joyce was a homemaker and of the Church of God faith.  She enjoyed playing the guitar and singing at church.

Funeral services were  Thursday, July 28, 2016, in the chapel of McCreary County Funeral Home with Bro. Johnny Perry and Tim Corder officiating.  Burial followed at the Privett Cemetery at Strunk, Kentucky.

He was born May 2, 1936, at Roundtop, Kentucky, the son of the late Luther W. and Savannah K. (Taylor) Stephens.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two children: Brenda Lee and Timothy Elmon Stevens and the mother of his children: Lela M. (Ross) Stevens, five brothers: Prince L. Stephens, Paul R. Stephens, Amon L. Stephens, Howard Stephens and Cleve Roman Stephens, six sisters: Letha Stephens, Eva (Stephens) Klundt, Trannie (Stephens) Bell, Nannie (Stephens) Griffith, Edith (Stephens) Hammond, and Etta Faye (Stephens) Foster.

Surviving family includes his loving wife of 38 years, Glennice (Boyatt) Stephens of Foster Crossroads, Tennessee, four children: Leota (Stevens) Wilson (friend, Oakley Merritt) of Burnside, Kentucky, Cathy Stevens, Strunk, Kentucky, Joe Lee (Paula) Stevens, of Robbins, Tennessee, Larry (Danny) (and Alice) Stevens of Harrogate, Tennessee, a sister: Charlene (Stephens) Strunk of Somerset, Kentucky,  special sister-in-law: Shirley Reagan and Faye (George) Hicks of Foster Crossroads.  He had 10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

Joe was a member of the Foster Crossroads Baptist Church.  He was retired from Hartco Flooring Company in Oneida, Tennessee.  He loved playing his guitar and singing, and listening to bluegrass and gospel music.  He enjoyed raising his beagle and foxhounds and going hunting with family and friends.

Carlton L. ‘Doc’ Stimmel, age 77, passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2016, at his home in West Chester, Ohio.

He was born February 17, 1939, the son of the late Thomas R. and Alice (Newell) Stimmel.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Janet (Lay) Stimmel, loving children: Myra Terry and Paul Terry; a brother: Henry Stimmel; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.  He served his country in the United States Air Force.

Doc loved to fish, deer hunt and work as a mechanic, listen to gospel music, spend time with his family and be faithful to his Lord and Savior.

Funeral services were held at the Mueller Funeral Home in Mason, Ohio on Friday, July 8, 2016, at 8:00 p.m.

Graveside funeral services were held at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, July 10, 2016, at the T. Chitwood Cemetery in Pine Knot, Kentucky.  Officiating was the Rev. Lance Lay and Honor Guard tribute bestowed by the U.S. Air Force.

Arnold Taylor, age 69, passed away Tuesday July 26, 2016 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset.

Funeral Service will be Thursday July 28, 2016 at 4:00pm in the chapel of the McCreary County Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Taylor Family Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Thursday July 28, 2016 from 2:00 pm until funeral time at the funeral home.

Dolly Goodin1Dolly V. Goodin age 81 years, 10 months and 29 days of Parkers Lake, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2016 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

Funeral services were held Sunday, July 17, 2016 at 2:00pm in the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home with Bro. David “Boone” Perry and Bro. Daniel Perry officiating.  Burial followed in the Higginbotham Cemetery.

She was born August 15, 1934 in Honeybee, Kentucky to Ogleberry and Lula (Barnes) Perry. Dolly was a Christian.  She loved her cats and family.  She enjoyed the Adanta Center that she had attended for over 30 years and had received a plaque for 25 years attendance.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Naman Perry, Lander Perry, Earlie D. Perry, Add Perry, and Fount Perry; half brother, Glen Clark; 2 infant daughters; and several siblings.

Survivors include her daughter, Lana Martin and husband, Bobby of Parkers Lake, Kentucky; favorite sister in law, Jane Perry of Parkers Lake, Kentucky; and many nieces and nephews.

Lee was born in Somerset, Kentucky, on March 25, 1963, the daughter of the late Euell and Norma Lee (Bruce) Hoskins.   Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by a sister, Judy King.

Surviving family include her husband Denny Gregory of Whitley City, four brothers: Euell Hoskins Jr. and wife Jeannie , J.C. “Buddy” Hoskins and wife Shirley all of Monticello, Kentucky, Ralph Hoskins of Huntsville, Arkansas and William A. “Billy” Hoskins of Whitley City, five sisters: Linda Worley of Whitley City, Sue Ford and husband Danny, Beverly Tucker and husband Rick all of Mt.  Vernon, Kentucky and Robin and husband Bob Smith of Helenwood, Tennessee.

Lee was a cook and custodian for the McCreary County School System, a member of Hill Top Baptist Church and she loved fishing, taking care of her dog Baby and working in her flower garden.

Funeral service will be Thursday, July 21, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. with burial to follow in Angel Cemetery.

Born January 3, 1949, he was the son of the late Chester and Gladys (Davis) King.  Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by a daughter, Kacey King, three sons: James King, Gary King and Michael King, three brothers: Don King, Arnold King and James “Gene” King and three sisters: Sandra Sue Chitwood, Shirley Chambers and Patsy Worley.

Surviving family include a son: Ronald King of Helenwood, Tennessee, two daughters: Ashley Faith King of Helenwood, Laura Shae King of Oneida, Tennessee, the mother of his children: Sheila King, three brothers: Charles (and Imogene) King, Lynn (and Darla) King of Pine Knot, and Denvil King of Strunk, Kentucky, and four sisters; Kathy (and Richard) Crabtree of Winfield, Tennessee, Patricia (and Wilburn) Heath of Winfield, Gail (and Roger) King of Pine Knot, and Gwenna (and Anthony) Byrd of Winfield.

He has five grandchildren: Casey, China, Avie and Jada King and Kendyl Stanley, and five great grandchildren: Railey, Lily, Rue, Ariston and Ethan.

Ronnie was a logger by trade and really enjoyed being in the woods.  He was a member of the Mt. Pleasant United Baptist Church and he enjoyed watching westerns.

Betty was born in Whitley City, Kentucky, on November 14, 1956, the daughter of the late Jess and Ellie Mae (Murphy) Ross.   Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by a sister, Estil Watson and a brother, Dean Ross.

Surviving family include her husband Carl West of Pine Knot, two daughters: Glenna Garner of Pine Knot and Melinda Ridner (husband, Thomas) of Strunk, Kentucky, four sons: Carlos West of Pine Knot, Allen West (wife Tonya) of Pine Knot, Terry West of Pine Knot, and Jesse West (wife Brittany) of Pine Knot, two brothers: William Ross (wife Irene) of Pine Knot, and Bobby Ross of Sloans Valley, Kentucky, a sister: Mamie Watson of Pine Knot, 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Betty was a homemaker and loving wife, mother and grandmother who loved spending time with her family and enjoyed watching wrestling.

Funeral services were  Saturday, July 16, 2016. Burial followed in Pine Knot Cemetery.

He was born in Burnside, Kentucky to the late Ernest and Ella Mae (Corder) Freeman-Rose on August 12, 1951.  Along with his parents he is preceded in death by a sister Phyllis Jeffers and long-time companion Judy Loudermilk.

Surviving family includes: one sister: Norene and husband James Goodan of Whitley City, brother-in-law Keith Jeffers of Huntsville, Tennessee; Step-daughter: Wanda and husband Jody Cecil of Helenwood, Tennessee, three grand-children: Steward Phillips, Lachresha Jeffers, and Tarence Jeffers, and one great grand-child: Christian Stephens.

James was employed as a satellite television installer for CNI Wireless and a member of the American Legion Post 115.  He enjoyed fishing and working with computers.

He was born in Whitley City, Kentucky on November 5, 1946, the son of the late Thurman and Mable (Earls) Jones.

Larry is survived by his wife Nelda of 47 years and his sons, Scott Jones and Larry Alan Day.  He also has two surviving brothers: Arlis Jones and wife Sharmine of Wilmore, Kentucky; Rodney Jones and wife Joann of Somerset, Kentucky; Ruben Jones and wife Rhonda of Parkers Lake, Kentucky, and sisters: Sharon Conatser and husband Roger of Mt. Sterlin, Kentucky, Katy Gilreath and Lana Perry of Whitley City, Kentucky, Beverly Hatfield and Barbara West of Stearns, Kentucky, Angela Owens of Burnside, Kentucky, Patricia and husband Paul Kearney of Pine Knot, Kentucky and Donna Jones of Lexington, Kentucky.

He was a valued employee of McCreary County Funeral Home, a cattle farmer, a loving husband and proud father.  Larry was a member of the First Baptist Church of Whitley City Church.  He enjoyed, the Cincinnati Reds baseball, University of Kentucky basketball, spending time with his family and numerous friends.

Funeral services were Monday, July 11, 2016 in the Chapel of the McCreary County Funeral Home. Burial followed in the  Angel Cemetery.

He was born in Somerset, Kentucky, on October 23, 1975, the son of T.J. King and Fayrene (Kidd) King Sharpton.  He is preceded in death by his father, T.J. King, and a sister, Debbie Canada.

He is survived by his mother, Fayrene King Sharpton (husband, Clyde) who lives in Winder, Georgia, his children: Jordan King of Rantoul, Illinois, Taylar King of Fisher, Illinois; their mother Laura King of Rantoul, Illinois; a son Cole Kelso of Missouri; a sister Abbie Stephens of Pine Knot, Kentucky; four brothers: Martin King (and Brenda) of Pine Knot; Dwight King (and Billie) of Pine Knot; Wayne King of Pine Knot; and Richard King of Whitley City.  He has three grandchildren: Brayden Candler, Adrian Torres and Lailah King.

Jason worked in construction and enjoyed hunting and fishing.  He served his country in the U.S. Navy.

Screen shot 2016-07-13 at 9.20.38 AMZona V. (Maxey) Lyons, age 75, of Covington, Kentucky, formerly of McCreary County, passed away Monday, July 4, 2016, at the St. Elizabeth South Hospital in Edgewood, Kentucky.

She was born at Winfield, Tennessee, on September 29, 1940, the daughter of the late Charles and Nora (Stephens) Maxey.  Besides her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Henry C. Lyons, who passed away in 1998,  She is also preceded in death by brothers: Tony Maxey, Kenny Maxey, Hoyle Maxey, Odell Maxey, Coleman Maxey, Hoyt Maxey, John Murphy, Luster Privett and Cledeus Starett, and sisters: Helen Braden, Imogene Stephens, Shirley Maxey, Opal Thomas, Edna Meadors, Hazel Baker and Flonnie Murphy.

She is survived by four daughters: Glenda (and Anthony) Adams of Independence, Kentucky; Vivian Lyons of Covington, Kentucky; Alison Gross of Beech Grove, Kentucky; and Vedra Gaylor of Covington, two sisters: Addelene Gregory and Frona Bryant, one brother: Willard Maxey..   She had 12 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Zona was an entrepreneur and along with her husband owned several businesses in the northern Kentucky area including a construction company, a grocery store and a bar.  She enjoyed working with crafts, gardening and working in the yard.  She especially enjoyed being with her family who will truly miss her.

Lois A. Maxwell departed from this life on Monday, July 11, 2016 at her home in Corbin, Kentucky, being 44 years, 2 months and 3 days old. She was born in Somerset, Kentucky, on May 8, 1972 to Boyce Dean Hill and the late Janet L. (Helton) Maxwell.

Along with her mother she is preceded in death by her Grandfathers: Ledford Maxwell and Arlie Hill.

Surviving family includes her father: Boyce Dean Hill of Whitley City, Kentucky, and Daughter: Erica Dawn Leach of Lexington, Kentucky, and Grandmother: Violet Maxwell of Whitley City, Kentucky.

Mae Carmella (Mullins) Manica age 54 years, 5 months, and 6 days, of Whitley City, Kentucky, passed away Friday, July 8, 2016 at her home.

In keeping of her wishes, Ms. Manica was cremated.

She was born February 9, 1962 in Columbus, Ohio to Clifford Mullins and Goldie (Slash) Mullins. Mae enjoyed reading, shopping, and visiting with her family and friends.

Preceding her in death is her father.

Survivors include her mother, Goldie Mullins, of Tram, Kentucky; sons, Brandon, Dion, and Demetri Manica, all of Louisville, Kentucky; brothers, Craig and Robert Mullins, both of Tram, Kentucky; sisters, Marleah Mullins of Tram, Kentucky, and Debbie Shettery of Somerset, Kentucky; grandchildren, Kinley Willinger and Amari James; her lifelong companion, Howard Baker; and a special niece, Courtney Ross of Whitley City, Kentucky.

He was born in Somerset, Kentucky, on May 10, 1993; he is the son of Jeffrey and Diana (Crabtree) New.  Besides his parents, he is survived by his Fiancé: Brooklyn Braden, a special niece: Kyleigh Braden, a sister: Jessica (Jeffrey) Shoopman and their son, Easton Blayz, Grandparents: Walter D. and Marilyn Sue Crabtree and Ralph Gerald and Shirley Jean New, Uncles:  Craig (Naomi) New, Matthew (Crystal) Crabtree and their children Cassie and Riley. Many other relatives and numerous friends.

He was student at Somerset Community College.  Jordan loved the Lord and was a member of Marsh Creek Baptist Church.

Jordan enjoyed reading, he was a politically informed supporter of Donald Trump in his Presidential campaign.  He loved family game night, camping, umpiring for little league, basketball and his dog Max.

Carlton L. ‘Doc’ Stimmel, age 77, passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2016, at his home in West Chester, Ohio.

He was born February 17, 1939, the son of the late Thomas R. and Alice (Newell) Stimmel.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Janet (Lay) Stimmel, loving children: Myra Terry and Paul Terry; a brother: Henry Stimmel; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He served his country in the United States Air Force. Doc loved to fish, deer hunt and work as a mechanic, listen to gospel music, spend time with his family and be faithful to his Lord and Savior.

Funeral services were held at the Mueller Funeral Home in Mason, Ohio on Friday, July 8, 2016, at 8:00 p.m.

Graveside funeral services were held at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, July 10, 2016, at the T. Chitwood Cemetery in Pine Knot, Kentucky. Officiating was the Rev. Lance Lay and Honor Guard tribute bestowed by the U.S. Air Force.

Screen shot 2016-07-06 at 1.07.40 PMCynthia Ann “Springtime” Blevins, 53, of Williamsburg, KY, formerly of Sidney, passed away Sunday, July 3, 2016 at her residence. She was born on March 23, 1963 in Sidney, Ohio, the daughter of Chester Blevins of Lima and Anna (King) Russell of Channelview, TX.

Cynthia is survived by her five children; Michael Kies, Beth (guy) Bryant, Mandi (Travis) Calloway, Derrick King, and Kali (Daniel Blevins) Rose, eight grandchildren; Navaeh Ann, Dawson, Jonah, and Bradley King, Chloe and Hunter Calloway, Isaac and Luke Bryant, maternal grandmother, Roberta King, three siblings; Pamela Leckey, Angela Blevins and Chester O. Blevins Jr., and two special friends, Alice Stratton-McGee and Charity King.  She was preceded in death by one brother, James Samuel Blevins, and paternal grandmother, Eileen Blevins.

Cynthia enjoyed studying her bible and going to church.  She also enjoyed riding her horses and her Harley Davidson.  Most of all she loved spending time with her grandchildren.

She leaves behind her very special friend and companion for 15 years, Robert Spradlin, his daughters: Marie and Renee (deceased), their children: Chasity and Cameron, Robert’s son, Darrell Spradlin, and her best friend Annie Schenck.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, July 11, 2016 at 1:00 PM at Cromes Funeral Home, 302 S. He was born in McCreary County, Kentucky on July 20, 1939, to the late Jackie and Roxie (Taylor) Bryant.  Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by four brothers: Lloyd Bryant, Travis Bryant, Willie Bryant, and Marvin Bryant and three sisters: Evelyn Litton, Freida Kidwell, and Mary Bryant.

Surviving family include his wife, Betty (Strunk) Bryant, whom he married September 20, 1958, who lives in Nicholasville, Kentucky, their children: Ricky Bryant of Nicholasville, Joey (and Patricia) Bryant of Lexington, Kelly (and Darla) Bryant of Nicholasville, and Phil (and Mary) Bryant of Nicholasville; their grandchildren: Joseph (and Casey) Bryant, Cynthia Bryant, Marsha Bryant, Georgia Bryant, Richard Bryant, Janey (and Dexter) Padgett, David Bryant and Adam Bryant.  Wolford and Betty have been blessed with 11 great-grandchildren. He has two surviving sisters: Bonnie Dodson of Lexington and Fannie Shepherd of McCreary County.

Wolford was a truck driver for 35 years having worked for The Lehman-Meade Company in Lexington.  He was a simple man who enjoyed coming back to McCreary County to go hunting and fishing.  He liked to tinker with old cars and watch westerns on t.v.  Mostly he took great pleasure in the time he got to spend with his family.

She was born at Little Laurel, Kentucky, on February 1, 1938, to the late Pearl and Mae (Browning) Cornett.  Besides her parents she is preceded in death by two husbands, Lloyd F. Harris and Ore Estes Jones, she is also preceded in death by her son: Jack Kerry Harris, one brother: Paul Cornett and two sisters: Bertha Vaughn and Clara Blair.

Surviving family include her children: Lisa Ann Harris, Gary Allen Harris, and Sanford Lee Harris all of Sidney, Ohio; a brother: John Cornett, Oceola, Ohio; and sisters: Katherine Bakewell of Baxter, Tennessee; Janette Gray, Marion, Ohio; Elva Lee Russell, Lafayette, Tennessee; Naomi Nash, Monticello, Kentucky; and Alma Jean Barrett and Brenda Faye Schmoldt, both of Sunbright, Tennessee.  She also leaves 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Eartha was a member of Mossy Grove Baptist Church; she was a homemaker and devoted Christian and loving mother to her children.  She also enjoyed her dolls, gardening, sewing, and praising the Lord.

Services will be held at the McCreary County Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00 a.m., on July 8, 2016.  Bro. Scottie Corder will be officiating.  Interment will be at the Stearns Cemetery in Stearns, Kentucky.

Visitation will be held Thursday, July 7, from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Jason Patrick King of Winder, Georgia, formerly of Pine Knot, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, July 3, 2016, at the North East Medical Center in Gainesville, Georgia.  He was 40 years, 8 months and 10 days old.

He was born in Somerset, Kentucky, on October 23, 1975, the son of T.J. King and Fayrene (Kidd) King Sharpton.  He is preceded in death by his father, T.J. King, and a sister, Debbie Canada.

He is survived by his mother, Fayrene King Sharpton (husband, Clyde) who lives in Winder, Georgia, his children: Jordan King of Rantoul, Illinois, Taylar King of Fisher, Illinois; their mother Laura King of Rantoul, Illinois; a son Cole Kelso of Missouri; a sister Abbie Stephens of Pine Knot, Kentucky; four brothers: Martin King (and Brenda) of Pine Knot; Dwight King (and Billie) of Pine Knot; Wayne King of Pine Knot; and Richard King of Whitley City.  He has three grandchildren: Brayden Candler, Adrian Torres and Lailah King.

Jason worked in construction and enjoyed hunting and fishing.  He served his country in the U.S. Navy.

Jordan Gerald New, age 23, passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at the UK Hospital in Lexington, KY.

Funeral Services will be conduced on Thursday, July 7, 2016 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of the Pine Knot Funeral Home.  Burial will follow in the Angel Cemetery.

Carrie PhillipsCarrie Phillips, 89, of Sidney, passed away at 9:11 PM on Sunday, July 3, 2016 at Premier Healthcare in Troy. She was born on November 22, 1926 in Stearns, KY, the daughter of the late George and Frona (Coffey) Worley. On November 3, 1946, Carrie married Gilbert T. Phillips whom preceded her in death on October 28, 1999.

Carrie is survived by her four children; Wanda (Jerry) Turner and Ronnie Phillips both of Sidney, Raymond (Myrna) Phillips of Eubank, KY and  Ray (Barbara) Phillips of Kings Mountain, KY, 11 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren, six siblings; Evelyn Gibson, Elsie Crisp, Lola Jones, Thelma Jones, Alonzo Worley, and Arnold Worley all of Stearns, Ky. Also surviving are Brenda, Jim and Olivia Bowman, Joyce Ann and Harold Dalton, Jureda and Leamon Spradlin, Phyllis and James Winningham, all whom Carrie considered as her extended daughter, sons, grandchildren and sister and brother. Preceding her in death was two daughters, Hazel Beasley and Janie Phillips, one granddaughter, Cheyene Turner, one grandson, Daniel Hughes, one brother, Homer Worley, and one sister, Lona Godsey.

Mrs.Phillips was homemaker and loved cooking and feeding her guests. Carrie was a true help and a strong right arm to her husband in his ministry. She loved gospel music and was a member of Gloryland United Baptist Church in Muncie, IN.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, July 8, 2016 at Cromes Funeral Home 302 S. Main Avenue Sidney, with Rev. James Bowman and Pastor Byron Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Point Cemetery in Pasco. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5 PM to 8 PM at the funeral home.

Screen shot 2016-07-06 at 9.55.30 AMRetired 1st Sgt. Charles Fred Taylor of Parkers Lake, Kentucky was received with open arms by his Lord and Savior on June 27, 2016 after a battle with cancer.

Born in Sawyer, Kentucky, on August 4, 1930, Fred was the son of the late John Frank Taylor and Birley Adaline (Worley) Taylor.  He left the area to join the armed forces in 1948 and returned home briefly during his own father’s battle with cancer.  In 1952, after the loss of his father, Fred became a member of the elite group; The United States Marine Corps.  He fought valiantly in both the Korean War and the Vietnam War, declining a Purple Heart Award because his fellow brothers had died.  He ended his military career after receiving many medals and awards in 1973.

Aside from devoting his life to protecting our country, he devoted his life to Christ and his family. He was a beloved member of Dixie Bend United Baptist Church.  He loved playing his guitars and singing songs of praise.

He was also a devoted father and husband, who will always be remembered by his loving, tender ways, and quick wit. He loved fishing and camping with his family.  They have fond memories of badminton games, playing horseshoes, and roasting marshmallows by a campfire.  He also loved gardening and watching his hummingbirds (known as his babies) feed on his porch.

Fred leaves behind the love of his life of 62 years, Wilma Ruth (Vernon) Taylor, and their five children: Mary Lucille Flinchum of Walnut Cove, North Carolina; Paula Taylor of Tyron, North Carolina; Frank Taylor (and Laurel) of Arden, North Carolina; Carol (and Conner) Powell of Drums, Pennsylvania; and Joy (and Jon) Slebos of Fernandina Beach, Florida; 20 Grandchildren and 15 Great-Grandchildren.  He also leaves behind two sisters, Ellen Clark and Betty Jones, as well as his brother, Calvin “Banty” Taylor.

Everyone who had the honor of knowing Fred loved him.  He will be genuinely missed by all, but none will miss him more than his wife and their five children.

Services were held at the McCreary County Funeral Home Chapel on July 1, 2016. The Reverends Mike Hammond and Rufus Hughes officiating.  Interment were at the Mill Springs National Cemetery in Nancy, Kentucky, with honors bestowed by the U.S. Marine Corps.

Amy ThompsonAmy Lynn Thompson age 36 years and 25 days of Strunk, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, July 3, 2016 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

In keeping of her wishes, Miss Thompson was cremated.

She was born June 8, 1980 in Jamestown, Tennessee to Bill Lynn Thompson and Linda (Gregory) Thompson. Amy was a member of the Black Oak Baptist Church. She enjoyed being outside working, going camping, four-wheeling, and fishing. Amy also enjoyed the company of little kids and animals, especially dogs.

Survivors include her father, Bill Thompson of Jamestown, Tennessee; her mother, Linda Thompson and step-father, Henry Polley, of Stearns, Kentucky; special companion and best friend for years, Barbara Maples of Strunk, Kentucky; a special son she considered her own, Mark Wallace also of Strunk, Kentucky; a brother, Michael Ross and wife, Sharon, of Oneida, Tennessee; a sister, Regina Besko and husband, Charles G., of Strunk, Kentucky; a niece Annabella Grace Stevens, nephews, Jerry Stevens, Jr. and Hershel Stevens; and a host of several friends and loved ones.

Ralph Eugene Threet, age 65, passed away at his home in Strunk, Kentucky, on Saturday, July 2, 2016.

He was born at Jamestown, Tennessee on May 26, 1951, the son of the late Clifton McKinley and Minnie Virginia (Strunk) Threet.  Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by a step-son David Cox.

He has two surviving brothers: Rick Threet of Stearns, Kentucky, and Arnold Threet of Whitley City, Kentucky, and three sisters: Geraldean Ridner of Whitley City, Debbie Parriman of Whitley City and Mary Vanover of Whitley City.

He was self-employed and a member of the Hill Top Baptist Church.

Burial followed in the  Vanover Cemetery, Whitley City.

Born on March 31, 1949, he was the son of the late Mahan and Irene (Bryant) Vanover.  Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Bonnie Staley, a brother: James Howard Vanover and an infant brother.

Surviving family include his wife Betty (Barnett) Vanover whom he married July 11, 1967, a son: Brian Vanover of Whitley City, and two brothers: Chester Vanover and Darrell Vanover, both of the Sand Hill Community.

Mitchel was a butcher by trade and manager of the meat department at Kroger in Whitley City.  He was a member of the Taylor Ridge United Baptist Church.  He enjoyed working on cars, traveling, camping and four-wheeling.

Funeral services were held Thursday at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of McCreary County Funeral Home with Rev. Rufus Hughes and Rev. Lenville Maxwell officiating.  Burial followed at the Barnett Cemetery on Sand Hill Road.
