Born on October 21, 1950, she was the daughter of Harley and Imogene (Reed) Hardwick.  She is preceded in death by her father Harley Hardwick, her husband: Bernard “Bunky” Dalton, a sister: Judy Dixon, and two brothers: Junior and Jimmy Hardwick.

Surviving family include her mother: Imogene Hardwick of Pine Knot, two daughters; Melissa Denise Hardwick of Lexington, Kentucky, and P.J. Bruce (husband Geoff) of Marshes Siding, Kentucky, John Thomas (wife Marissa) of Charlotte, North Carolina who was like a son, a brother, Terry Hardwick (wife Tina) of Falmouth, Kentucky, a sister Joyce Hardwick Stephens, of Whitley City, grandchildren: Jacob, Josh, and Jason Anderson, Ryan and Alexa Bruce as well as Dalton and Aria Thomas.

Ms. Dalton taught retailing and marketing for the McCreary County Schools and was over the DECA Program.  She loved spending time with her family and grandchildren, enjoyed watching the Kentucky Wildcats, playing cards and fishing.

Pine Knot Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements, and in accordance with her wishes, there will be no services.

Screen shot 2016-08-23 at 4.50.11 PMDarrell Eugene Jones, age 55 of Whitley City, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2016, at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, Kentucky.

He was born on September 29, 1960, in Hamilton  County, Ohio to Charles Ruthel and Earma (Patrick) Jones.  He is preceded in death by his mother, Earma Jones, a brother, Jimmy Darren “Bo” Jones and a sister, Helen Mae Jones.

He is survived by his wife Loretta (Spradlin) Jones, his two sons: Daryl Chance (and Krystan Hope) Jones of Whitley City, and Daniel Eugene Jones of Whitley City, his father: Charles Ruthel Jones of Whitley City, his brothers: Charles Russell “Rusty” Jones (wife Mary) of Parkers Lake, Kentucky, Carl Allen “Skip” Jones (wife Della) of Whitley City, Timothy Craig “Tim” Jones (wife Teresa of Whitley City, Dennis Ray “Dink” Jones of Whitley City, and sisters: Ramona Mason (husband Terry) of Whitley City and Melissa “Lisa” Tucker (husband Crawford) of Whitley City.  He has a precious granddaughter: Makenna Paige Jones.

Darrell was a member of the Flat Rock Missionary Baptist Church and worked in construction.  He enjoyed carpentry, fishing, camping and grilling out.  He took great pleasure in playing with his granddaughter.

Funeral services were  Friday, August 19, 2016,  in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Rev. Danny Staley and Bro. Skip Jones officiating.

Burial followed in the   Nancy Graves Cemetery on Saturday, August 20, 2016.

Funeral services were on Sunday, August 21, 2016, at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Pine Knot Funeral Home with Bro. Ronnie Peters, Bro. William Kilby, Bro. Bill Murphy, and Bro. Dan Ridener,  officiating. She was  laid to rest at the Pine Knot Cemetery.

Born March 2, 1937, in Pine Knot, she was the daughter of the late Oda and Pearl (Stephens) Cooper. Also preceding her in death was her four brothers Herman, James, Raymond, and Robert Cooper; four sisters Beulah Braden, Thelma Graham, Betty Baird, and infant sister Dicie Geneva Cooper.

Surviving family include her husband L.J. Neal of Strunk; daughter Anna Faye Murphy of Pine Knot; son Randall Neal and wife Lisa of Mayfield, Kentucky; her grandson Brandon Neal and wife Stephanie; great grandchildren Avery and Mallory Neal; step grandchildren Katy Dimarco and Andrew Hill; step great grandchild Miles Dimarco; one sisters Lois Phelps and husband Bud of Moraine, Ohio, and a brother Clyde Cooper of Cincinnati, Ohio.

Evelyn was a member at the Marsh Creek Baptist Church. She loved gardening, canning, taking care of her kids, going to church, singing, and was a member of the McCreary County Gospel Singers.

Isabelle PoynterIsabelle Poynter, 78, of Somerset, Kentucky, passed away Monday, August 15, 2016 at Somerwoods Nursing & Rehab.

Funeral services were held at 2 PM Thursday, August 18, 2016 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Damon Jones officiating.  Burial followed in Union Cemetery.

She was born in Marshes Siding, Kentucky on March 22, 1938, daughter of the late Alvin Angel and Loula Nell Sellers. She was a seamstress and of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Dale Poynter and her parents.

She is survived by one son, Gary & (Lisa) Poynter, one brother, Bob & (Debbie) Sellers, sister, Willina & (Junior) Canada, brother-in-law, Arnold Canada and two grandchildren, Christie and Greg.

Funeral service will be on Thursday, August 25, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Pine Knot Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest in the Mill Creek Cemetery.

Born August 13, 1936, in McCreary County, he was the son of the late Harrison and Ethel (Morgan) Rose. Also preceding him in death was his two brothers Luster and Arlis Rose; three sisters Ella Privett, Mandy Keith, and Josephine Rose.

Surviving family include his wife Affie Nadine “Jude” Rose; son Ricky Rose; daughter Sharon Foster and husband Edward C. Foster; two brother Euel and Hobert Rose; three sisters Abbie Campbell, Pearlie Ridener, and Ruby Minnick his grandchildren Crandle Foster and wife Luren, Rachael Foster Marlow and husband Brandon, Rebecca Foster Patrick and Justin, Makayla Foster, Rostin Foster, Makenzie Foster, Colton Foster, and Kendra Foster. Also surviving great children Payden Foster and Claire Patrick with one on the wat Lucas Foster.

George was of the Baptist faith and worked as a logger. George loved and enjoyed his grandchildren.

Kathryn CossmanKathryn (Coffey) Cossman age 63 years, 11 months, and 5 days of Goshen, Ohio passed away Wednesday, August 10, 2016, at the Bethesda North Hospital.

Funeral services were held Sunday, August 14, 2016, at 1:00pm in the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home with Bro. George Allen Coffey officiating.  Sammy Cossman, Cody Cossman, Michael Cossman, Matthew Cossman, Sam Cossman, and Daniel Jones served as pallbearers. Burial followed in the Sherd Dobbs Cemetery.

She was born in Oneida, Tennessee on September 5, 1952 the daughter of Clyde Estill and Dora (Dobbs) Coffey.  Kate was a member of the Cherokee United Baptist Church.  She enjoyed cooking and caring for her grandchildren, family gatherings, and was a caretaker for family.

She is preceded in death by her father; brother, Harold Coffey, and a sister, Helen Panko.

Survivors include her mother, Dora (Dobbs) Coffey of Stearns, Kentucky; husband, Stanley Cossman of Goshen, Ohio; son, Daniel Cossman and his companion, Angie Meece; daughter, Ashley Cossman; and stepsons, Samuel Cossman and Matthew Cossman and wife, Raquel all of Goshen, Ohio; brother, Norman Coffey; and sister, Opal Stewart both of Stearns, Kentucky; grandchildren, Kayla Cossman, Tessa Cossman, Carter Cossman, and Audrey Long; step-grandchilren, Casey, Alex, Samuel, Cody, Michael, Brie, Jordyn, Keira, and Cooper.

Darrell Eugene Jones, age 55, husband of Loretta Jones passed away Tuesday August 16, 2016 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset. Funeral service will be Friday August 19, 2016 at 8:00pm in the chapel of the Pine Knot Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6:00pm until funeral time. The family will gather at the funeral Saturday at 11:00am to start the funeral procession to Nancy Graves Cemetery for graveside service. OI161075072_RonaldLayRonald Gene Lay, age 69, of Pine Knot, Kentucky,  passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2016, at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

Ronald had worked at the American Bag Corporation in Stearns before becoming disabled.  He enjoyed going to flea markets and was a fan of old cars.  He enjoyed going to the car shows and taking his 1964 Plymouth Valiant.

He was born on Cal Hill at Pine Knot on August 23, 1946, to the late George Lay and Geneva Kathleen Stephens.  He is preceded in death by his parents: George Lay and Geneva Kathleen Campbell and Leroy Campbell, a great granddaughter, Aubrey Stephens, a brother Kelly Dale Campbell, a nephew Joseph Lay and a niece Tina Genoe.Surviving family include his wife Linda (Tucker) Lay of Pine Knot, whom he married January 12, 1985, sons: Ronnie (and Lisa) Lay of Cincinnati, Ohio, George (and Heather) Lay of Stearns, Chris Lay of Pine Knot and Terry E. Chitwood of Morristown, Tennessee, daughters: Angel (and Joshua) Dennison of Lawrenceburg, Indiana, Shanda (and Bill) Rigney of Stearns and Angelina Goodin of Pine Knot.  Brothers: Bennie Stephens (and Sheila Jones) of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Danny Lay of Pine Knot, sisters: Wanda (and Earl) Neal of Brookville, Indiana, Joyce Genoe of Pine Knot, Reva King (and Randy Bryant) of Whitley City, and Tammy Jo Perry of Somerset, Kentucky.  There are 11 grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren, three great grandchildren and four step-great grandchildren.  He will be sadly missed by all his family and many friends including his best friend, Randall “Picclo” Litton.

Funeral services were Friday, August 12, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Bro. Dean Barnes, Bro. Robert Gilreath and Bro. David Allen officiating.  Burial was at the Upper Cal Hill Cemetery.  Serving as pall bearers were: Ronnie Lay, George Lay, Chris Lay, Josh Dennison, Bill Rigney, Tanner Johnson, Jacob Lay and Jesse Lay.

She was born March 17, 1939, in McCreary County, Kentucky, the daughter of the late James Wiley ‘J.W.’  and Nancy (Neal) Anderson.  Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by brothers: Huston, Ottis, Jeff, Hurstle, Boyd, Gary, Arless and Edward Anderson, and sisters: Geneva Vanover, Betty Kidd, and Bernice Anderson.

Surviving family include her husband, Kenneth Meadors, two daughters: Kathy Lynn Dobson (and Brian Scott, Sr.), of Williamsburg, and Kimberly Jo Turner (and Robert) of Chesterfield, Virginia, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Shirley had been a department manager at Wal-Mart and was a member of the Pleasant Run Church.  She enjoyed crafts, puzzles, taking care of family and working at the church.

Funeral services were Saturday August 13, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. at the Pleasant Run Church with burial to follow at the Pleasant Run Cemetery.

Charles Ray Murphy, age 27, passed away Tuesday March 29, 2016. Funeral service will be Thursday August 18, 2016 at 8:00pm in the chapel of the Pine Knot Funeral Home with private burial to follow at a later date. He was born at Flat Rock in McCreary County, Kentucky, on March 30, 1959, the son of the Rev. Thomas Ralston Sr. and Betty (Perry) Sellers.  He is preceded in death by his father Tom Sellers.

Surviving family include his mother, Betty Sellers, of Whitley City, Kentucky, a son: Larry Sellers, Jr., of Little Rock, Arkansas, two daughters: Sharon (and Fred) Prince of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Carrie Lyles of Knoxville, four brothers: James T. (and Shannon) Sellers of Sheffield, Alabama, Gary L. (and Linda) of Pine Knot, Ralph R. (and Lindy) Sellers of Pine Knot and Thomas R. (and Karen) Sellers of Waco, Kentucky, also best friend Jeff Nevels.  He had seven grandchildren.

Larry had been a mechanic and loved cars, going to car shows and traveling.  He was a Hamm radio operator and enjoyed listening to the scanner.

He was born on December 5, 1945, at Kayjay, Kentucky in Knox County, to the late Edward and Cana (Vanover) Yancey.  He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Clellon Yancey and Jimmy Ray Helton whom he considered as a brother, and five sisters: Edda Rose, Ailene Sumler, Ruth Hickman, Joyce Vanover and Wilma Schultz.

Surviving family include his wife Ruby (Hickman) Yancey of Whitley City, two sons: Brian (and Heather) Yancey of Stearns and Brad (and Renee) Yancey of Whitley City, four grandchildren: Tyson, Shawn, TayShon, and Ashton Yancey, and two great-grandchildren: Peyton Garland and Riley Yancey.  He has a brother, Reed Yancey of Whitley City and four sisters: Glenna Stanton (husband Novin) of Rockcastle County, Kentucky, Wanda Owen (husband Silas) of Whitley City, Lois Coffey (husband Pat) of Whitley City, and Elva Hughes (husband Charles) of Greenwood, Kentucky.

Doyle had worked in maintenance for the McCreary County Schools.  He had also done commercial construction.  He was a sergeant in the United States Army and enjoyed fishing, hunting, sports and especially the Kentucky Wildcats.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 2, 2016, at 4:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Pine Knot Funeral Home with Bro. William Kilby officiating. She was laid to rest at the Pine Knot Cemetery.  Serving as pall bearers were Joey Braden, Barry Braden, Greg Chaney, Doug Chaney, Tristen Norfleet and Zack Chaney.

Born January 5, 1928, in Pine Knot, she was the daughter of the late Oda and Pearl (Stephens) Cooper. Also preceding her in death was her husband Earl Braden when he passed away on October 27, 2006; her son Gary Braden; four brothers Herman, James, Raymond, and Robert Cooper; three sisters Thelma Graham, Betty Baird, and infant sister Dicie Geneva Cooper; and her ex-daughter-in-law Donna Wilson.

Surviving family include her son Larry Braden and wife Sharon of Strunk; daughter June Chaney and husband Dean of Pine Knot; her daughter-in-law Judy Braden of Stearns; her grandchildren Stephanie Norfleet, Joey Braden, Jason Murphy, Eric Murphy, Barry Braden, Jennifer Bailey, Greg Chaney, and Doug Chaney. She has fifteen great-grandchildren, one great great-granddaughter Marley, two sisters, Evelyn Neal and husband L.J. of Strunk, and Lois Phelps and husband Bud of Moraine, Ohio, and a brother Clyde Cooper of Cincinnati, Ohio.

Beulah was a member at the Marsh Creek Baptist Church. She loved her flowers, enjoyed gardening, quilting, family time, talking to people, and her dogs.

Kathryn Coffey Cossman, age 63, wife of Stanley Cossman of Cincinnati, Ohio and daughter of Dora Dobbs Coffey of Stearns, Kentucky and the late Clyde Estill Coffey, passed away Wednesday at Bethesda North Hospital in Cincinnati.

Screen shot 2016-08-09 at 12.24.37 PMPatricia “Patty” Aileen Crabtree, passed away Tuesday, August 2, 2016, at her home in Whitley City, Kentucky being 65 years, 3 months and 17 days old. She was born April 16, 1951, in Sidney Ohio, daughter of the late Clarence an Edna (Jones) Branscum.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband: Leroy Crabtree.

Surviving family includes two daughters: Jennifer Menhinick (husband Seth) of Aeworth, Georgia, Stephanie Spradlin (husband Jason) of Strunk, Kentucky, sister: Sue Slaven( husband Alton) of Whitley City, Kentucky, four brothers: Maurice Branscum (wife Clotine) of Cincinnati, Ohio, Herbert Branscum (wife Elsa) of Cummins, Georgia, Wendell Branscum of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Larry Branscum of Stearns, Kentucky.   Patty had one grandchild: Jaden Paige Spradlin, two fur babies whom she loved dearly, Ginger and Pepper, and numerous friends and relatives that she deeply cared for.

Patty was a Funeral Director and valued employee of McCreary County Funeral Home for eight years. She loved working and serving her community. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, eating sweets and taking care of everyone.

Funeral services were Saturday, August 6, 2016 at 6:00 PM in the Chapel of the McCreary County Funeral Home with Bro. Timothy Corder and Monty Bransucm.

Burial followed in the Angel Cemetery.

Shirley Rochelle Meadors, age 77, wife of Kenneth Meadors passed away Tuesday August 9, 2016 at the Baptist Health Corbin in Corbin, Kentucky.

Funeral service will be Saturday August 13, 2016 at 2:00pm at the Pleasant Run Church with burial to follow in the Pleasant Run Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 6:00pm until 9:00pm at the funeral home. Mrs. Meadors will be at the church from 1:00pm until funeral time at the church.

She was born at Creekmore, Kentucky in McCreary County, on July 1, 1926, to the late Hiram and Leonia (Privett) Stanfill.  Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Esler Neal, her children: Kerney and Carol Neal, step-children: Edward Neal, Beulah Davidson, her sisters: Goldie Rowe, Pearl Neal and Eunice Baird and a brother: Hurstle Stanfill.

Surviving family includes children: Ralph (and Beth) Neal of Strunk, Kentucky, Judy (and Pete) Redden of Strunk, Dennis (and Kathy) Neal of Strunk, Mavis (and Paul) Hughes of Knoxville, Tennessee, and step-daughter Jessie Braden of Ohio, sisters: Bernice Smith and Madge McClain, and brothers: Vernon Stanfill and Clayton Stanfill.  Marie had 24 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Marie had been a cook for the McCreary County Schools and worked at the Shirt Factory in Stearns.  She was a member of the Hayes Creek Church of God and enjoyed quilting and sewing and spending time with her family and friends.  She was indeed a virtuous woman who loved everyone and everyone loved her.

Funeral services were Tuesday, August 9, 2016, in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Bro. Dennis Neal and  Bro. Boyd Rowe officiating.  Burial followed at the Hayes Creek Cemetery with her grandchildren serving as pall bearers.

Born November 21, 1944, at Straight Creek, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Virgil Keith and Ethel (Perry) Keith.  Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother: Thurman Keith, two sisters: Vertie Clontz and Margret Keith and one grandchild: Garrett Patrick.

Surviving family include her beloved husband of 54 years, Vestle Patrick, sons: Gary Patrick and wife Wanda, Parkers Lake, Doug Patrick and wife Sharon, Parkers Lake, and daughter: Sandra Clark of Parkers Lake.  Brothers: Robert Keith and wife Georgia, Parkers Lake,  Larry Keith and wife Donna, Somerset, Russell Keith and wife Tammy also of Somerset, Terry Keith and wife Gidget, Parkers Lake.  Sisters: Mrytle Strunk and husband Donald of Beulah Heights, Elva Ball and husband Don of Pine Knot, Pearl Smith of Parkers Lake, Pauline Partin of Greenwood, Mary Grubbs and husband Gerry of Cincinnati, Ohio, Kay Ball and husband Wayne of Corbin.  Sister-In-Law: Thelma Keith, Six Grandchildren: Penny (Kevin) Frye, Gavin (Keshia) Patrick, Kyle (Alishia) Patrick, Dallas (Josh) Goodin, Dylan Patrick and Trevor Patrick, Seven Great-grandchildren: Connor Frye, Liam Frye, Karson Patrick, Kyndal Patrick, Kyler Patrick, Paisley Goodin and special great grandchild Rylan, along with several special nieces and nephews.

Nora “Grannie” was a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, homemaker and a member of Eagle Creek United Baptist Church. Nora sang with the Keith Family Singers and together they graced over 500 funerals with their beautiful songs of praise.  She enjoyed her baby dolls, flower garden, sewing, taking photographs and scrapbooking.  She was known and loved as the neighborhood “Grannie” taking care of her own and everyone else’s grand babies.

Archie Baird paperArchie Dwight Baird age 65 years, 5 months and 22 days of Sunbright, Tennessee, passed away Thursday, July 28, 2016 at his home.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 30, 2016 at 2:00pm in the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home with Bro. Robert Blankenship officiating.  Jim Ross, Jack West, Pete Perry, Aaron Baird, Doug Ponder, and Darin Ross served as pallbearers. Burial followed in the Otter Creek Cemetery.

He was born February 6, 1951 in Jellico, Tennessee to Estel and Virginia (King) Baird. Archie was a member of the First Otter Creek Baptist Church.  He was a retired truck driver and had worked as a master auto body repairman and builder.  Archie enjoyed hunting, fishing, and the outdoors, especially jeep riding in the back country.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his companion and caregiver, Belinda Curtain of Sunbright, Tennessee; son, Aaron Baird and wife, Shannon of Strunk, Kentucky; daughter, Shonda West of Oneida, Tennessee; sisters, Phyllis Ross and husband, James of Xenia, Ohio and Faye West and husband, Jack of Williamsburg, Ohio; grandchildren Brysen, Shyann, Taylor, Justin, Renee and Albert.  He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and Pete Perry, whom he considered a son.

Funeral services were held Thursday, July 28, 2016 at 10:00am in the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home with Bro. Wayne Cooper and Bro. John Blevins officiating.  Pallbearers were, Chris Carter, Todd Cooper, Tim Cooper, John Blevins, Dave Nutter, Daniel Wightman, David Perry, R.D. Bryant, Robert Carter and Greg Vanover.  Burial followed in the Lower Hickory Grove Cemetery.

He was born November 1, 1932 in Revelo, Kentucky to Maynard and Rosetta (Smith) Blevins. Conley was a member of the First Baptist Church Whitley City.  He was a retired School Teacher for the McCreary County School District, where he taught at the Smithtown Elementary and Whitley City Middle School.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time at his cabin, playing his fiddle,  and travelling.  Conley had also worked at Blue Heron as a Ranger.  He will be remembered as a honest and caring man and a strong Christian.

He is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Lacie Blevins and Amon Blevins; and sisters, Parazida Jones and Irene Blevins.

Survivors include his wife, Jean (Cooper) Blevins of Whitley City, Kentucky; son, Ralph Blevins and wife, Rebecca of Pine Knot, Kentucky; grandson John Tyler Blevins and wife, Savannah; and great grandchildren,  Delilah and Gracie.

SherryBoogarSherry L. Boogar, age 63, of Marion, passed away on Sunday, July 31, 2016 in Colonial Oaks Healthcare Center, Marion, Indiana.

She was born on January 16, 1953 in Somerset, Kentucky to the late Joe Stephens and Audrey (Hughes) Stephens.  Her mother survives.

Sherry was a hospital administrator at the Lafayette General Hospital in Lafayette, Louisiana.  She was a member of the Sunnycrest Baptist Church and the Eastern Star.  Sherry enjoyed spending time with her family and doing cross-stitch.

She is survived by her mother, Audrey Stephens of Marion; a son, Robert (Michelle) Boogar of Marion; and grandchildren, Ethan, Madelynn, Skylar, and Brooklyn Boogar, all of Marion.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Craig Stephens.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 5, 2016 in Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 Kem Road, Marion, Indiana with Pastor Stephen Houser officiating.

Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 5, 2016 in the funeral home prior to funeral services.

He was born in Oneida, Tennessee on December 10, 1949, the son of Loyd “Pete” and Sadie (Kidd) Cordell.  He is preceded in death by his parents, a son Matthew Cordell, brother David Cordell, and sister Penny Carter.

Surviving family include his two sons Nathaniel and Seth Cordell both of Revelo, a sister Melissa Stanley and husband Sterling of Tunnel Hill, Georga. Also a host of grandchildren survive.

Eddie retired from the Kentucky Department of Transportation as Superintendent.  He was a member of the Hilltop Missionary Baptist Church.

Funeral services were  Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at Pine Knot Funeral Home. Rev. David Troxell officiating. Burial followed in Lower Hickory Grove Cemetery

Patricia “Patty” Crabtree, age 65, passed away on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at her home. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, August 6, 2016 at 6:00 PM in the Chapel of the McCreary County Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5:00-6:00 PM at the funeral home on Saturday.  Patty had requested no funeral proession to the cemetery.

SisterSister Jean Marie McAuliffe (Sister Louise Catherine), a member of the Sisters of St. Joseph, West Hartford, CT died at St. Francis Hospital on Wednesday, July 27, 2016.

Born in Stamford, CT on September 15, 1930, of the late Henry Patrick and Catherine (Morris) McAuliffe, Sister Jean entered the Sisters of St. Joseph on September 15, 1948 and celebrated her Profession of Vows on August 24, 1954.  At the time of her death, she was 85 years of age and in the 68th year of her Religious Life.

Sister Jean earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education from Diocesan Sisters College and did studies in Sociology at Fairfield University, Fairfield, CT and Southern Connecticut State College, New Haven, CT.  She taught in the elementary schools in the Archdiocese of Hartford, CT and in the Dioceses of Bridgeport, CT and Norwich, CT and in Ridge, Maryland.

Sister Jean’s love of the poor urged her to answer the missionary call to Africa where she taught for twelve years in Sinoe, Liberia and Sasstown, Liberia.  Although she was injured in a serious accident in Liberia, once she had recovered, Sister Jean again returned to her beloved mission there.  On her return to the US, Sister Jean continued her work with the poor in Vredenburgh, Alabama, and, lastly, spent twenty-three years in Whitley City, Kentucky traveling in her schoolroom van up and down the hills and hollows of Kentucky to reach and teach pre-school children.  In this, she found untold joy and love.  On leaving Kentucky, Sister Jean turned her talents to gardening; tending her vegetables and flowers until her health made it imperative for her to retire.

Sister Jean was a person of gentle disposition and happy heart.  She loved celebrations and enjoyed a good laugh.  Being aware of each one’s needs, she was ever alert to respond with care and thoughtfulness to her Sisters’ many requests.  She will be really missed by her Sisters, family and friends.

Sister Jean is survived by her Sisters in Community and by many nephews and nieces.  She is predeceased by her sisters and brothers-in-law, Catherine and Robert O’Neill, Margaret and Francis Kennedy, and her sister, Cecilia McAuliffe, and her brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Ethel McAuliffe, William and Alice McAuliffe, and brothers Irving, James, Donald and Arthur McAuliffe and a niece, Maureen Taranto.

Services were held at the Convent of Mary Immaculate in West Hartford, CT on Saturday, July 30, at noon..  Burial services followed  in the Sisters of St. Joseph Cemetery in West Hartford.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph, 27 Park Road, West Hartford, CT 06119.  Fisette-Batzner Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Avenue, Newington has care of the arrangements.

She was born at Holly Hill, in Pine Knot, KY on September 20, 1940 to the late Earl Perkins and Helen Crawford Hamlin.

Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her husband of 55 Years Randolph Murphy whom were married July 30, 1960.  Three daughters: Norma Sue Murphy Geary, infant twins Lorene Sue and Lorena Ann Murphy, and a brother: Harold E. Perkins

Surviving family includes: a daughter Jane Murphy Johnson (and husband William) of Chattanooga, Tennessee, sisters: Barbara Perry of Whitley City, Maxine Tucker (and husband David) of Somerset, KY, Lorene Davis of Whitley City, KY, and her dog Dixie whom she loved very much.

Dorene was a homemaker. She was a very active member of our community. She was a member of the Local Historical Society, and she transcribed records of services that were held by the McCreary County Funeral Home into data books totaling 3,722 services from 1972-2006; they were then published by the McCreary County Museum where Dorene worked. Along with this, she made obituary books of each year for county wide deaths. She enjoyed painting, crafts, scrapbooking, and spending time with her family and friends.

Funeral service were Wednesday August 3, 2016 in the chapel of the McCreary County Funeral Home with Bro. Daniel Ridener Officiating.

Nora D. Patrick, wife of Vestle Patrick known by everyone as “Grannie” passed away Saturday, July 30, 2016, at her home in Parkers Lake, Kentucky.  She was 71 years old.

Born November 21, 1944, at Straight Creek, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Virgil Keith and Ethel (Perry) Keith.  Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother: Thurman Keith, two sisters: Bertie Clontz and Margret Keith and one grandchild: Garrett Patrick.

Surviving family include her beloved husband of 54 years, Vestle Patrick, sons: Gary Patrick and wife Wanda, Parkers Lake, Doug Patrick and wife Sharon, Parkers Lake, and daughter: Sandra Clark of Parkers Lake.  Brothers: Robert Keith and wife Georgia, Parkers Lake,  Larry Keith and wife Donna, Somerset, Russell Keith and wife Tammy also of Somerset, Terry Keith and wife Gidget, Parkers Lake.  Sisters: Mrytle Strunk and husband Donald of Beulah Heights, Elva Ball and husband Don of Pine Knot, Pearl Smith of Parkers Lake, Pauline Partin of Greenwood, Mary Grubbs and husband Gerry of Cincinnati, Ohio, Kay Ball and husband Wayne of Corbin.  Sister-In-Law: Thelma Keith, Six Grandchildren: Penny (Kevin) Frye, Gavin (Keshia) Patrick, Kyle (Alishia) Patrick, Dallas (Josh) Goodin, Dylan Patrick and Trevor Patrick, Seven Great-grandchildren: Connor Frye, Liam Frye, Karson Patrick, Kyndal Patrick, Kyler Patrick, Paisley Goodin and special great grandchild Rylan, along with several special nieces and nephews.

Nora “Grannie” was a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, homemaker and a member of Eagle Creek United Baptist Church. Nora sang with the Keith Family Singers and together they graced over 500 funerals with their beautiful songs of praise.  She enjoyed her baby dolls, flower garden, sewing, taking photographs and scrapbooking.  She was known and loved as the neighborhood “Grannie” taking care of her own and everyone else’s grand babies.

Funeral services will be Saturday at Eagle Creek Baptist Church beginning at 2:00 p.m.

Visitation: Friday, August 5, 2016 at 6:00 p.m.

Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his brothers: Herbert, Dewell, Doyle, Dester, and Maynard Perry, sisters: Lois Perry and Ina Higginbotham.

Surviving family includes a daughter: Sheila Grammer (and husband Daniel) of Mason, Ohio, a brother: Kenneth Perry of Parkers Lake, KY, and two grandchildren: Perry and Abigail.

Elzick worked for Stearns and Foster Manufacturing, and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Minnie RossMinnie Lee Ross age 84 years, 1 months and 27 days of Revelo, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, July 28, 2016 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

Funeral services were held Monday, August 1, 2016 at 1:00pm in the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home with Bro. Mark Sewell and Bro. Darrell Waters officiating.   Eddie King,  Delynn Waters, Mike King, Othel King, Tim Stephens, and Dylan James served as pallbearers.  Burial followed in the Pine Knot Cemetery.

She was born May 31, 1932 in Bell Farm, Kentucky to Odie Lee and Nora (Hill) Maxwell. Minnie was a member o the First Hickory Grove Baptist Church for over 50 years, where she had served as a Sunday School Teacher for many years and Laurel Heights Chapter #288 Order of the Eastern Star.  She enjoyed reading her Bible, sewing, crossword puzzles,  and word search .  Minnie will be remembered as a dedicated Christian, wife, mother, and grandmother.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Oscar Ross; brothers, Floyd, Red, and Johnnie Maxwell; sisters, Betty Irene Shepherd, Mildred Taylor, and Belle Smith.

Survivors include her sons, John Wayne Wright and wife, Linda of Hephzibah, Georgia and Randall Ross and wife, Connie of Whitley City, Kentucky; step children, Michael Ross, Pamela Ross, and Kimberly Ross all of Florida; 9 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren.

donaldDonald B. Stephens, age 89, of Pine Knot, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, July 27, 2016, at the Veterans Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky.

Donald retired as a car hauler and was a WWII veteran, having served in the United States Army.  He was a member of the Paint Rock Baptist Church. Donald was also a member of the American Legion and VFW.

He was born in Pine Knot, Kentucky, on July 29, 1926, the son of the late Floyd Sampson and Myrtle Sophia (Rowe) Stephens.  He is preceded in death by his parents along with three brothers: Herman, Ledford and Richard Stephens and four sisters: Georgia Farmer, Kathleen Campbell, Eva Moore and Reva Stephens.

Surviving family include his wife of seventy years Violet “Tubby” Stephens, five daughters: Phyllis Stephens and husband Frank of Perryville, Maryland, Carol Wright of Northeast, Maryland, Donna Machulski and husband Mike of Elkton, Maryland, Penny Stephens and Angie King and husband Shawn both of Pine Knot, and two sons Tim Stephens and wife Pam of Newark, Delaware and Zack Phillips of Winfield, Tennessee.  He has four sisters: Edna Wright of Pine Knot, Noneda Barnett of Pine Knot, Marie Bradley of Sidney, Ohio, and Irene Stephens of Pine Knot. Also surviving is eighteen grandchildren and twenty-nine great grandchildren. Loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. To know him was to love him.

Arnold was born in Whitley City, Kentucky, on June 30, 1947, the son of the late Everett and Ruth (King) Taylor.  Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Elsie M. (Perry) Taylor, a son Arnold E. Taylor, grandson: Patrick Taylor, and three sisters: Betty Taylor, Jody Taylor and Jewell Strunk.

Surviving family include a son: Jerry L. Taylor (companion Ginger Ridnour) of Winfield, Tennessee, a daughter: Lucinda Ball (husband Andrew) of Somerset, Kentucky, a brother: Ron Taylor of Tennessee, four sisters: Wilda (and Coy) Worley of Whitley City, Kentucky, Doris (and Junior) Crabtree of Whitley City, Rose (and Eugene) Canada of Whitley City, and Jan Bryant of Whitley City.  He had 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Arnold was a self-employed well driller and loved fishing and hunting.

Mrs. West was born in Jellico, Tennessee, on May 25, 1926, the daughter of the late Tunsel “Tun” and Nannie Belle (Daugherty) King.  Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Rev. James West, three brothers:  Robert, Thelbert “Theb”, and Herbert King, two sisters: Thelma Dye and Bessie Jean Floyd, three grandchildren: Randel Gerald West, Jr., Robert West, and Jami Ann West, and a great grandson Anderson Lee Ball.

Surviving family include her, four sons: James David (Bonnie) West of Pine Knot, Steve Allen (Vickie) West of Indiana, Randel Gerald (Lynn) West of Bethel, Ohio, and Scott Kevin (Mickey) West of Maryville, Tennessee, three daughters: Wilma June (Rene’) Belanger of Toronto, Canada, Tamera Sue (Thomas) Chitwood of Pine Knot, and Tonya Jean (Andy) Dyer of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, 20 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren with one on the way.

Betty was a member of the Otter Creek United Baptist Church where she was a pastors wife for many years. She enjoyed search word puzzles, taking care of James, game show especially Wheel of Fortune, Reba, and her gospel stations.  Betty was the Vice President of the residents committe at Signature Health Care and never missed a meeting. “To Know her was to love her”. She also loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral services was Sunday, July 31, 2016, in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Bro. Steve West and Bro. William Clark officiating.

Burial followed at the Hill Cemetery at Strunk, Kentucky.
