The McCreary County Chamber of Commerce has started a program that recognizes local businesses that have been in business for 50 plus years in McCreary County. The business does not have to be owned by the same family all those years. The first business recognized was Bobby Duncan’s General Store located in Strunk, KY. Mr. Duncan has operated the store since 1946. T.A. Creekmore opened the business in either 1938 or 39. The saying for years was “If Bobby Duncan’s does not have it you do not need”. When asked what he contributed the success of the business to, he replied, the good Lord, hard work, staying with it through thick and thin and not giving up. His advice to new business owners was, work hard and be honest in your dealings.
