Grand Jury indicts five

In a light month for the McCreary County Grand Jury a total of three indictments against five individuals were returned Monday.

Danny Roberts, of Whitley City, was indicted on two counts of Trafficking in a Controlled Substance in the First Degree for allegedly having a quantity of Methamphetamine and bath salts in his possession on January 29.

He was also charged with one count of being a Persistent Felony Offender after a previous conviction in 2012, which he is still on probation for.

Three individuals, Paul Overton, Leticia Chambers and Mark Troxell, all of Helenwood, were charged with Theft by Unlawful Taking of $500 or more for reportedly taking a Honda TX 250 ATV owned by Donnie Daugherty on September 27.

Charles Jones, of Whitley City, was charged with one count of Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon and one count of Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon, for allegedly carrying a handgun on August 27 after a felony conviction in 2006.

He was also charged with being a Persistent Felony Offender after a 2015 conviction, which he is still on probation for.

The Voice would like to remind our readers that an indictment is not an indication of one’s guilt or innocence, but represents that enough evidence exists in a case to pursue the matter in a court of law.
