Lady Raiders drop season opener

The Lady Raiders struggled in their season opening game at Russell County Tuesday night, falling to the Lady Lakers 28-67.

McCreary shot a disappointing 17 percent from the floor for the game, and only scored 5 points in total in the second half.

The Lakers jumped ahead to a 6-0 lead early before Liz Anderson put the Lady Raiders on the board with a jumper with 6:35 left in the first quarter. Four Ally Anderson free throws and a Liz Anderson trey were the only other points McCreary scored in the period as Russell County ended the first with a 19-9 lead.

The Lady Raiders tried to fight back, outscoring the Lakers 14-13 in the second quarter, but after halftime it was all Russell County as they scored 23 points in the third, while McCreary only managed 2 – off a pair of L. Anderson free throws.

Trailing 55-25 entering the final quarter, L. Anderson managed the only offense in the last 8 minutes, hitting a free throw and a basket.

Ally Anderson led the Lady Raiders with 14 points, followed by Liz Anderson with 12 and Macey Welchel with 2.

McCreary is on the road again Friday when they travel to Corbin and will have their home opener Monday night at 7:30 when they host East Jessamine.
